10-place penalty for Massa

Felipe Massa’s second Grand Prix for Ferrari is off to a poor start even before the first practice session. The Brazilian will start ten places further down the grid after Ferrari engineers replaced his faulty engine. This robs Ferrari of the option of running Massa light in qualifying in an attempt to protect Michael Schumacher during the race, as they appeared to be doing in Bahrain.

Fellow Ferrari-powered driver David Coulthard will also suffer a ten-place penalty as his engine failed after the end of the Grand Prix and will need replacing.
