1996 Formula One World Champion Damon Hill had a one-off outing behind the wheel of Bernd Schneider’s Mercedes C-Class DTM car at Brands Hatch on the Indy Circuit today. Hill, the current President of the British Racing Drivers’ Club, spent an hour familiarising himself with the car to promote the British round of the DTM champinoship at Brands Hatch next weekend.
Hill, as ever, refuted all speculation that he might make a return to competitive racing. He was photographed alongside British DTM racer Susie Stoddart and Danish ace Tom Kristensen, seven times winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours. An embarassing moment was narrowly avoided during the photo shoot when Hill realised the DTM car didn’t have a handbrake, and action had to be taken to prevent its escape down Paddock Hill (see picture).
Audio from the press conference to follow later. In the meantime, have a look at the photos in our gallery.
