ITV ratings woe

UK Formula One broadcaster ITV suffered very poor TV ratings in July and are set to lose their chief executive.

Their audience share in July was 16.7% – one-fifth less than they managed last year. Poor advertising revenue has seen their revenue drop by 4.6% in the first half of 2006. Their Sales MD Gary Digby recently suggested they need more advertising revenue from F1.

If ITV’s problems get worse, high-profile, high-cost programming such as live Formula One could be in jeopardy. ITV already occasionally drop qualifying sessions for programmes they expect to be more popular – let’s hope this problem doesn’t get any worse.
