In the news this week a few interesting developments in the driver market as Adrian Sutil will make his race debut as a rookie in 2007 with Spyker, Sebastian Bourdais courts an ’08 race seat with Toro Rosso, and Timo Glock nabs a testing contract.

This and more in our weekly headlines round-up.

Bourdais revels in F1 ‘challenge’ – Three-time Champ Car World Series champion Frenchman Sebastian Bourdais made his testing appearance for Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Although Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed are still expected to be confirmed as the team’s drivers for 2007, Bourdais has his sights on a 2008 seat. There are currently no French drivers in Formula One apart from Toyota test driver Franck Montagny.

Hamilton will succeed in F1 – Surtees
– Lewis Hamilton gets former F1 champion John Surtees’ vote of approval.

Sutil named second driver with Spyker F1 team – German racer Adrian Sutil has got the nod for the second seat at Spyker over former racer Tiago Monteiro. Sutil has raced in A1 Grand Prix and was Lewis Hamilton’s team mate in the F3 Euroseries in 2005.

BMW adds Timo Glock as second F1 test driver – Michael Schumacher may be gone but there’s certainly no shortage of German drivers on the cusp of F1. Timo Glock had a few outings for Jordan in 2004 and a strong season in GP2 last year has won him a testing contract with BMW.

Ecclestone holding up F1’s use of WiMax – Meanwhile BMW are also lobbying for the use of WiMax wireless data transfer technology in Formula One – no surprise as they are sponsored by Intel, who developed the technology. I suspect the AMD-backed Ferrari might have a different point of view on the matter.

But if, as this article suggests, WiMax could be used to support more on-board television cameras, then I’m all for it.
