Fabrizio Giovanardi continued hit back from his Donington disappointment at Snetterton, winning the second of the day’s races.
But championship leader Jason Plato kept the Italian in his sights, finishing third behind Matt Neal who impressively charge from 18th on the grid to finish on the podium.
Giovanardi started fifth and was quickly up to third behind pole sitter Gordon Shedden and Mat Jackson’s fast-starting rear wheel drive BMW.
Fiona Leggate and Chris Stockton collided at the start on the narrow Snetterton grid and the safety car was summoned. But when the cars came around at the start of the next lap Richard Marsh collided with Stockton’s stationary car.
The race got underway again on lap six with Shedden leading Jackson, but Giovanardi took second off Jackson at the end of the straight.
On lap seven Giovanardi got past Shedden, who was also briefly passed by Jackson until the Team Halfords driver reversed the move.
Tom Chilton and Jason Plato caught Jackson and tried to pass him for third at Riches, but Chilton was knocked off and Plato fell back while Jackson survived. Plato finally got past Jackson on lap 13, taking fifth.
On the next lap Erkut Kizilirmak spun off into the famed Snetterton cornfield. It was his second error in the race and it required a safety car period to recover the car. Shedden dropped out at this point as his gearbox refused to let him change up.
On the last lap Turner let both Neal and Plato past, relinquishing second place so Plato could finish third and limit the damage in the championship as Giovanardi won.
