Say what you like about Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. However great the enmity between the pair was at least they never took each other off.

Unlike this sorry collection of drivers from the front and back of the grid…

1980: Tyrrell drivers Derek Daly and Jean-Pierre Jarier at Monte-Carlo

Derek Daly gets airborne on the way into the first corner at Monte-Carlo and lands on his team mate Jean-Pierre Jarier.

1989: Dallara drivers Andrea de Cesaris and Alex Caffi at Phoenix

@3:35

Crash aficionado de Cesaris managed to take Caffi out of what would have been a useful third place for Dallara – while Caffi was lapping him!

1989: McLaren drivers Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna at Suzuka

Certainly the most infamous inter-team collision. Ayrton Senna tried to pass Alain Prost for the lead at Suzuka and Prost, knowing he would win the championship if Senna failed to finish, took an unusual line into the corner that appeared to involve driving straight into the side of his team mate.

1992: Larrousse drivers Bertrand Gachot and Ukyo Katayama at Montreal… and Suzuka

Not content with blundering into each other at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Bertrand Gachot and Ukyo Katayama of the tail-end Venturi team repeated the feat at Suzuka later in the year.

1997: Jordan drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher at Buenos Aires

When Ralf Schumacher in his third start shunted team mate Giancarlo Fisichella out of the race he inherited what would become third place at the flag. Fisichella was not impressed.

1999: McLaren drivers Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard at Estoril

F1’s second-longest team mate pairing had an inauspicious beginning, the pair colliding at Estoril in 1996.

Three years later it happened again – this time Coulthard tipped his team mate into a spin on the first lap in Austria.

2002: Williams drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher at Indianapolis

The Williams duo of Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher were not the best of buddies. When Montoya passed Ralf at Schumacher the German lost control of his car and swiped Montoya off the track. Patrick Head hit the roof…

2004: Williams drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher at Nurburgring

Next time around the blame was more on Montoya’s side, having braked rather late for the first turn at the Nurburgring.

2004: Jaguar drivers Mark Webber and Christian Klien at Interlagos

The Jaguar team came to an ignominious end when its drivers collided with each other in their final race. Astonishingly Webber also collided with his team mates at the next two Brazilian Grands Prix in 2005 (Antonio Pizzonia) and 2006 (Nico Rosberg).

2007: BMW drivers Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica at Nurburgring

You don’t need a long memory for this one. Nick Heidfeld’s optimistic attempt to pass team mate Robert Kubica on lap one at the N?â??rburging ended in tears.

    Great videos thank you

  2. Yes, excellent vids, as always! It’s nice to see that there are many good videos out there, despite the FOM’s best efforts to remove them.

The 4th video was interesting. I was surprised to see how well Montoya was able to keep pace with a damaged wing. He maintained his position after the first corner all the way around to the pits. Are those wings tethered to the car somehow? I thought it would snap right off after the contact.

The pass around the outside of turn 6 in the same video was nice too. It was a Mclaren, but I can’t tell which one.

  3. Surprising to see that Michael Schumacher is not involved in any such incidences throughout his career which is otherwise full of controversies.

    1. He was always too good for his teammate. ;) It almost happened once though – USA 2005, where he and Rubens were battling for the only win Ferrari would get all year. But Rubens went off track.

    2. Thats probably because Schumi’s teammates were not allowed to race him. They had to just back off and let him through…

Having said that.. I hope to see Rosberg and him tangle this season. Lets see what the 7 time WDC can do against a teammate who isnt paid to make Schumi look good.

  4. Interesting to learn that Webber has a history of colliding with his team mate: 2004, 2005, 2006 and now 2010…Unfortunately the Video has been removed, so we cant see who should maybe have eased of.

  5. Why does the first video have the theme from Star Trek TNG in the background? LOL

  6. most of them have been pulled but the other are great, montoya was an idiot wasn’t he

  7. I hate that Button failed in the The Ring race 07.. the 2006-07 Honda was extreme in the wet

  8. Excellent blog and outstanding design.
