BTCC: Darren Turner gives Seat another diesel win

Seat made it two wins at Donington as Darren Turner headed home Tom Onslow-Cole and Jason Plato. But Fabrizio Giovanardi was running in the top three before an uncharacteristic msitae that almost dopped himself and team mate Onsloe-Cole out of the race.

Giovanardi braked too late for the chicane at the end of the lap and hit Onslow-Cole hard. His younger team mate caught the slide and kept going but Giovanardi slipstreamed past.

But Onslow-Cole re-took the place and Giovanardi made another mistake at the exit of Macleans, allowing Plato past into third place.

Polesitter Gordon Shedden wasted his advantage by starting with wet-weather tyres on the rear axle, a gamble that failed as the conditions in the final race were never wet enough to merit them.

Plato left the third weekend of the year with the biggest points haul of the drivers although Giovanardi still leads the drivers’ championship. Can the improving diesel Seats put Vauxhall under more pressure at Thruxton in two weeks’ time?
