This is awesome. Thanks to Mind Your Own Business podcast for sponsoring this.
BTW: Is this contest open for non-uk residents?

Awesome contest. I will definitely have designs submitted in the next few days or so. Shame we can only submit one of each. ;)
What would be really cool is if the winner’s design gets submitted to a video game developer, like the guys who make rFactor or something. Just a thought. :D
I’m also curious to know if the FIA regs apply to the realistic design (ie, max length= 7km’s).

Do we have to watch the podcast to find out who won? It’s just that I don’t have an Ipod.

Contraro – Nope (that would be way too harsh!)
Dan – Yep anyone can enter.
Eric – Nice idea. I’m trying to get in touch with Codemasters about their upcoming F1 game, and if I can I’ll bring it up with them.
Stealthman – No, winners will be announced here.

Stealthman – As Keith says, the winners will be announced here.
But you don’t need an ipod to listen to the podcasts. They’ll play on any mp3 player – or your computer – and can be downloaded from iTunes and the Mind Your Own Business website.

So what program shall we use to send in? I’ve tried looking for track designers on the net but can’t find any.

Well I’ve got a design for a “realistic” track based on roads I drive everyday that are great fun in a Xsara Picasso (so I can only assume they’d be even better in an F1 car!!). But I’m not sure what sort of format to send it in using – how do I show scale etc….
Don’t suppose anyone has an example they’d be willing to post showing the sort of layout to use…

Pineapple, Adrian,
I had a look around for some free drafting software, but didn’t really have any luck. Corel Draw has a free trial, but the download failed before I could try it. Maybe you might have better luck with it. I used AutoCAD myself, since I have access to it through my job.
I think that if you don’t have access to drafting/drawing software the Quickmaps route might be the way to go. It’s easy, and it’s free, plus you can give your circuit a real world setting. Some examples of circuit ideas I drew using quickmaps (not my contest entry, btw):

Unfortunately Quickmaps doesn’t really give you any idea of how long the circuit you drew is, so scaling could be a problem. But I wouldn’t get too hung up on that.
And if all else fails, you can always do a clean drawing on paper and scan it. ;)
