Mark Webber will not be running the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge in 2009. He has been running the event since 2003 but broke his leg during last year’s race.
A statement on his website reads:
The 2008 Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge saw the conclusion of some major sponsorship contracts, making it a logical time to ?óÔé¼?ôtake a breather?óÔé¼?Ø from the event. Despite the continuing commitment of the State of Tasmania to the event for the next 12 months, the timing was right to review the Challenge in light of the more difficult economic times.

And the broken leg had nothing to do with that call! :)

“the timing was right to review the Challenge in light of the more difficult economic times.”
what does that mean? were they paying him, or was he paying them?

Means entrants had to stump up thousands of dollars each to enter the event…
and the broken leg would probably mean higher insurance and safety costs I guess
