Briatore frustrated by diffuser grey area

Flavio Briatore: "It's not right that some diffusers are made in a certain way while others in a different way, because I don't think it fair that everyone has his own rule book. Looks like there are two sets of regulations: the one that allows some teams to have the diffuser built in a certain way that is forbidden to others because it's considered illegal. That's not what we expect. We want black or white rules but equal to everyone."

Factor 001: $28,000+ Bicycle with F1 Tech and Materials

"Hailed to be the world's most advanced bicycle, the Factor 001 from motorsport engineering specialists, BERU f1systems, will be revealed at the launch of the London Science Museum's new exhibition "Fast Forward: 20 ways F1TM is changing our world" next week on March 11th. The Factor 001 uses technology and materials from Formula One where BERU f1systems is a supplier of various components such as electronics and composites to every team."

Sistic roped in to help manage F1 ticket sales

"Singapore GP has brought Sistic on board for this year's Formula One race to prevent a repeat of last year – when high demand initially caused the ticketing system to stall."

Dennis plays down McLaren concern

Ron Dennis: "We ran the 2008 rear wing because it was more relevant in its performance to the wing that we are going to have in Australia. It doesn't mean you are lost or that you don't know what you are doing."

Formula 1 to inspire the next generation of Britons

Ron Dennis: "The Fast Forward exhibition at the Science Museum is not merely a chance to reflect on the past and future role of Formula 1, or even McLaren, in innovating. The most powerful role to be played is to inspire the next generation of Britons to embrace science, technology and engineering to innovate and provide answers to the challenges of tomorrow.”

Philips picks shop for F1 tie

"Philips has hired sponsorship consultancy Synergy to handle its sponsorship of the AT&T Williams Formula One team."

A sign of the times

"Although F1 likes to have its cars running in the same liveries at each race, the idea of alternating sponsorships might be worth considering if the financial crisis continues in the mid-term."

Earlier than 2008

'There was an opinion shared by some of the media at our Barcelona new car launch yesterday (9 March) that the STR4 was rather late in getting to the track. Our technical director, Giorgio Ascanelli was keen to put them right on this: “I am happy that we have made our debut just 22 days later than Red Bull Racing first ran their new car. This compares very favourably to last year when we were at least 70 days behind Red Bull Racing, which shows we have made progress.”'

Brawn confirms partners in Brawn GP

"There will also be money coming from the Formula One group, although we have heard suggestions that Bernie Ecclestone has one or two questions about whether the team should be paid all the money owed because Honda was supposed to have a commitment to stay in F1 until the end of 2012 and has chosen not to do that. However, it would not be wise for the Formula One group to push that point too much as it needs all the teams it can get at the moment."

  1. Briatore is such a cry baby. Always complaining how other teams find loopholes. Of course Briatore himself wouldn;t do such a thing. He wouldn’t mess with the refuelling rig or use a mass damper that got banned.

You can simply never have rules that are 100% unambigous from the start. People will always find loopholes. If you’re not smart enough to find them then it only makes you look stupid when you blame the clever people.

  2. Flavio Briatore. That’s his name. Isn’t he the boss of a team that got caught with McLaren IP in 2007? Weren’t they found guilty, but not punished for some strange reason, unlike the team they “acquired” it from? Wouldn’t this be classed as breaking the rules or, as he put it “…I don’t think it fair that everyone has his own rule book.”

Well, you’ve obviously got yours, so whatever, Flav….

    1. toby and patrickl,

renault’s tuned mass damper was banned for safety concerns, but mysteriously declared “a moveable aero device.” this was well after the only other contender (ferrari) had copied the sprung mass in the nose and developed another mass for the rear of the car.

the ip renault was caught with was ferrari’s, thanks to stepney. after turning themselves in, much of the chassis development was thrown out to avoid “contamination”. not only that, but renault alone honored the rule against engine power development, and suffered accordingly.

as for being stupid, search google images for “flavio briatore”. that is not the life of a stupid person.

    2. F1Yankee,

What’s your point? Who cares why his ideas were banned? The point is that he was using loopholes in the rules. The very same thing he accuses other teams of now.

Sad thing is that he actually got results with his crying:
“Oooh the other teams cheated when their engines got more power” (repeat at every race from midway during championship)
“ehm no they didn’t cheat, the changes were approved”

“no reeeealy we only suck because they have better engines”
“ehm but you won two races at the end”

“reeeeealy they cheated we must be allowed to do the same”
      “well technically you are”

“but we aren’t clever enough and we don’t cheat *crosses fingers behind back*. Why won’t you listen to me?”
“Oh ffs improve your engine then, if that will finally shut you up, damn crybaby”

    3. Here’s some more potential hypocrisy for Flavio to own:

F1 Yankee – Firstly, I didn’t mention anything about the Mass Damper saga. And check your facts, it was McLaren IP, not Ferrari:

Also, Brawn GP team members are supposedly saying that the Mercedes engine in the car is as much as 70bhp more than the Honda engine, which would mean that someone else didn’t do too much “fixing” last season:

  3. Flavio Briatore: “It’s not right that some diffusers are made in a certain way while others in a different way”

Well now Flavio can do his own in a third way. As long as all the teams cheat a little bit in roughly the same amount, there is a level playing field, which after all is the spirit of the rule

Flavio is a good man and runs a talented group of people that do great work with a smaller budget than the big teams, and may end up being WDC in 2009

  4. Brawn confirms partners ….

lets see that great livery in dark metallic green, GOLD in the front tip and two white racing stripes. Chromed wheels and suspension components.
Any sponsor could enhance its prestige by beeing seen on such a classy vehicle

    1. lol, that sounds like a F1 version of Pimp My Ride. Maybe they should also have chromed wheel covers that spun as well!

    2. This is not a Pimp My Ride livery.
This is the Jim Clark – era Lotus livery

  5. I really like the idea of alternating sponsors, I did mentioned this idea to a couple of my mates before. It would give local sponsors and GPs a shot at marketing their products and brands.

This could be a way out teams like Williams and Renault who are slated to loose big money in 2010. Brawn GP could start off as the guinea pig.

    1. As the Banks are all reducing their sponsorship, I think it will be the only way to go. Though I suppose the teams could also go back to using their own ‘House’ colours, or even ‘National’ colours like the good old days, and have minimum coverage from the Sponsors.

  6. Cool bike but a little OTT lol…

    1. Haven’t Lotus already been there?

  7. I wish they would relinquish the rule that team cars must be identical liveries – what BAR proposed for its launch was a neat idea (555 and Luckies as titles on different cars).

Of course, the question begs: which would be more confusing – cars that alternated liveries every race, or 19 different liveries on track. (Yes, 19…I’m sure Ferrari wouldn’t look much different :D)

    1. I’d rather each car have a different livery, rather than teams alternating at races. That way the sponsors don’t miss out on any races, but don’t pay as much as they only have half the coverage.

  8. @loki

Talking about the Brawn livery, the one I describe is similar to the Jim Clark era Lotus, perhaps the most elegant racing car ever. That car had wheels with chrome or a high-shine finish on the outside rim, and black on the inside – it looked really classy

  9. So which are the three teams that are apparently using illegal diffusers or whatever it may be according to briatore?

  10. nice to see how Falv is thowing his toys out of the pram- the tools are the same for everyone, it just so happens some people are inteligent enough to apply them fully!
