#12 and #15.. Clive, you’re joking.. right (?) ;-)
Clive
25th March 2009, 13:07
Not at all, Swaveck. I’m sticking my neck out, which is what we’re all doing whenever we make a prediction. What would I be doing if I merely stated what was the most likely outcome? Playing it safe, that’s all – and anyone can do that.
Sure, there’s a lot of hope involved in my faith in Heidfeld – but there’s calculation too. I reckon BMW are doing their usual thing of not bothering with setting the fastest lap in testing and that the car will be much quicker come the races. Others seem to think so too because they’re going for Kubica as champ.
They’re doing that because Kubica seemed to be quicker than Heidfeld last year. But, considering that the F1.08 did not suit Heidfeld, he was very close to Kubica in the races. This year I am expecting the car to be more to Heidfeld’s taste (plus he’s lost a bit of weight) and I think he’ll be the better of the two Beemer boys as a result.
Add it up – fast, reliable car, quick and experienced driver – and you get Heidfeld as champ and probably BMW winning the constructors’. Yes, it’s a guess, but aren’t all the “Raikkonen for champ” guys gambling equally as much on the Ferrari being good and reliable?
todd
25th March 2009, 13:34
i’d agree with that, Heidfeld is supremely quick and he didn’t suit that car too well. with the change of driving style required this year I’d not be surprised to see a role reversal, kubica struggle and play #2 and Heidfeld get the more points.
Clare msj
25th March 2009, 15:05
I compeletly agree with you Clive – I have very high hopes for Heidfeld this year – there are many reasons why I think he will do well, most of which you covered there. I put five whole pounds on him to win the title the other week – he has relatively long odds compared to many of those who I would consider to be main rivals – seem the bookies underestimate him too. i think will be close with him and Kubica, but i beleive he will have the upper hand come the end of the season – just.

1. Will Brawn GP get a car on the podium in their first race?
Yes – but I wouldn’t be surprised if they were then disqualified and then perhaps even reinstated. I can’t see them still being at the top come Abu Dhabi though.
2. How many cars will be classified at Melbourne?
Somewhere between 9 and 12.
3. Which driver will be the first to leave his team?
I don’t think any will leave mid season.
4. How many races will McLaren win?
3 – 2 for Hamilton, 1 for Kovalainen.
5. Who will Fernando Alonso announce he is driving for in 2010?
Renault.
6. Which teams will go all season without using KERS?
Force India, and possibly Brawn GP.
7. How many drivers will have to get their front wings replaced after the first lap at Melbourne?
3 – Nakajima is a cert, and I wouldn’t be against one of the McLarens needing a wing change either.
8. Will Renault score more points than Red Bull-Renault?
Too close to call – I think Webber and Vettel will be evenly matched in the midfield, but Alonso will trounce Piquet over the course of the season, and the two teams will end up with similar points totals.
9. Which drivers will win their home race/s?
Massa.
10. Will Max Mosley win the FIA President election?
Unfortunately, yes.
11. How many teams will announce before the final race they are leaving F1?
One.
12. Which of BMW’s drivers will have the best season?
Kubica will win more races, Heidfeld will score more points.
13. Will Ferrari win the constructors’ title for the 17th time?
I’d like to say no, but they probably will.
14. Which driver will announce his retirement?
Kimi Raikonnen, Giancarlo Fisichella. I think Rubens will want to stay on but I think that the issue is whether or not he’ll get a drive for 2010.
15. Who will win the drivers’ championship?
Felipe Massa – but I’m off to Ladbrokes to put a fiver on each of Alonso and Kubica (despite my answer to Q12!).

Hey, if anyone’s interested, here are some links to some info on the mkaing of the BBC’s F1 intro made by Liquid TV and a short preview on liquid’s site:
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/technology/creativereview/2009/03/creative_review__formula_1_branding.html
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/technology/news/2009/03/griffin_provides_f1_soundscape.html
http://www.liquid.co.uk/main.html
And my predictions for this weekend are:
-Brawn cars will be on the front row, but will have trouble keeping the KERS cars (Ferrari & Renault) behind at the start and during expected safety car periods!
-1 Brawn driver will be on the podium
-Alonso will be on the podium
-Buemi will not finish the race, probably crash out!
-A Toyota will finish 4th
-Hamilton will finish 8th after damaging his front wing on the first lap!
Just a feeling, but hopefully things won’t be as predictable as that!

Who CARES??? The FIA and FOM have already buggered up this season with their ineptitude and greed. The opening race has a question mark hanging over it which will taint the entire season, regardless of outcome.
The only winners will be the lawyers (and Bernie, of course).
I love F1 and I hate what’s happening to it.

AND A QUESTION TO EVERYONE+KEITH
Im a huge Kubica fan, hes a great driver and him + BMW are awesome, but do you think he can overcome the large disadvantage he has over mainly his team mate and the rest of the grid to do well this season?
Im talking about his weight compared to others and the maximum weight of the car+driver not being increased for KERS so he has less ballast to balance his car.
Becken
25th March 2009, 20:22
There are some rumors suggesting that Nick Heidfeld will use the KERS when Robert does not.
So, we could see the real advantage that KERS can generate! I think that even the teams doesn´t know it properly yet…

I’ve just read on a Polish site that Kubica isn’t using KERS in Melbourne. Nor will he use it in the second and third GP. Heidfeld, however, is using KERS in Melbourne w/o trouble.
Mario Theissen stated that Robert might or might not use it in Bahrain. They don’t know it yet. The problem being Robert’s weight :/
Toby Thwaites 93
25th March 2009, 21:36
FIA needs to raise the maximum weight of the cars+drivers. This really sucks for him, seen as though BMW probably have a great working KERS system :(
Toby Thwaites 93
25th March 2009, 21:54
Yeah ive found out that
– BMW will make the final decision on friday or even saturday morning if Kubica uses the KERS system
– Your correct with saying he wont use it in China or Malaysia
– However Heidfeld wont use it in Malaysia either because of the KERS needing more cooling because of the high temperatures
– On a track like Bahrain “hard on the brakes” both drivers will use it
– And apparently when the system is improved further and slimmed it will let Kubica use it more often
Seems as though BMW have done the Maths for both drivers concerning the KERS

1. Will Brawn GP get a car on the podium in their first race?
Yes, both drivers will. But if they lose on the diffuser issue, they will both be in the midfield at best.
2. How many cars will be classified at Melbourne?
I honestly don’t know what this means- I am still a bit new to F1. If you mean how many cars will finish the race, I’ll say 14.
3. Which driver will be the first to leave his team?
None during the season.
4. How many races will McLaren win?
Three
5. Who will Fernando Alonso announce he is driving for in 2010?

STR and Red Bull

10. Will Max Mosley win the FIA President election?
Yes-everyone is too afraid of him to vote him out, and no other serious challenger has emerged that I can see.
11. How many teams will announce before the final race they are leaving F1?
None, and USGPE will confirm their entry plans, baby :)
12. Which of BMW’s drivers will have the best season?
Kubica, but by a VERY narrow margin
13. Will Ferrari win the constructors’ title for the 17th time?
Yes :(
14. Which driver will announce his retirement?
Rubens and Kimi, which Ferrari may nudge him into. Fisi will get another year because Vijay is too short-sighted to hire Chandhok.
15. Who will win the drivers’ championship?
Massa, followed very closely by Alonso (Piquet will destroy their WCC chances), Robert, and Nick.

1. They look to have the pace, reliability is still an issue for them in races and there will be lots of pressure for them to get the podium this w/e. Id love them to do it but think they may get 4th.
2. First race is always hard to predict and with the front wings i think we could see another low finishing race. 10 finishers
3. Fisichella or Sutil with PDLR or Liuzzi to replace them. Although Piquet appears to be the obvious choice
4. Well it shud be how many will Lewis win, as i cant see Heikki winning races. I’ll say 4 with Lewis winning 4 times.
5. If he has a good year with Renault he’ll stay at Renault, although if Kimi has a poor year like last year that will be irelevant to that and FA will be at Ferrari next year.
6. None, they’ll all use them

Alonso to Ferrari where he will win 5 more WDC to equal Schumi!!!
This year’s championship could well be a 3 way battle between Kimi, Kubica and Jenson…maybe Massa! It would great iF Alonso gets in into the mix, but I’ll believe it when I see Renault’s pace come this Saturday!

I have read some reports that Lewis Hamilton will consider a move to another team no that the McLaren car isn’t so great… Does anyone know how accurate this is?

Lewis, Lewis…you disappoint me. Running away from problems.
I’m leaving room for the fact that he may have been misquoted…you know how these media hounds are.

1. Will Brawn GP get a car on the podium in their first race? Yes. Why? Because, despite the appeals against them, they are still going to race aren’t they :-)
2. How many cars will be classified at Melbourne? 13. In this case, its a lucky number
3. Which driver will be the first to leave his team? Nelson Piquet or, dare I say, LEWIS HAMILTON!?!?!
4. How many races will McLaren win? One third of the race calendar, so…. 5.666666 races
5. Who will Fernando Alonso announce he is driving for in 2010? If he finishes top 3 in the driver standings after this year, then Renault, otherwise Ferrari
6. Which teams will go all season without using KERS? Force India, and possibly Ferrari if they find their way around it.
7. How many drivers will have to get their front wings replaced after the first lap at Melbourne? One. Rosberg is allergic to keeping it attached through the 1st lap.
8. Will Renault score more points than Red Bull-Renault? This is the toughest question on here. Renault would be the safe guess but Nelsinho sucks, so maybe Weber and Vettel could take it. Renault is my final answer.
9. Which drivers will win their home race/s? None
10. Will Max Mosley win the FIA President election? Who cares
11. How many teams will announce before the final race they are leaving F1? One, only because this could be the best F1 season ever. Nobody likes leaving a good party.
12. Which of BMW’s drivers will have the best season? Please, Kubica.
13. Will Ferrari win the constructors’ title for the 17th time? No, too many competitive teams for them to dominate. Unless Kimi dusts the cobwebs off.
14. Which driver will announce his retirement? The driver who should retire is Rubens, but Bruno will probably retire before him :-)
15. Who will win the drivers’ championship? Kubica, I have a crystal ball and I just checked it, he wins the drivers championship in October. Thatttaboy!
