Here’s a round-up of F1 news and other interesting links I’ve found today.

If you’ve spotted a hot news story, interesting new website or just something funny from the world of F1, please share your links in the comments below.

N.Technology submits F1 application

"MSC Organization Ltd, the company that owns the N.Technology racing team and the International Formula Master championship, has submitted an application to join the 2010 Formula 1 World Championship."

Exclusive Q & A with Joan Villadelprat

Joan Villadelprat on Epsilon Euskadi's putative F1 entry: "We submitted our entry with the budget cap in mind, but we are waiting for the FIA to decide what the final rules will be. As of today, we are under the budget cap, but the budget cap is a bit misleading, because it's £45 millions plus drivers, plus marketing and a series of things. The budget I think is needed is around 70-75 million."

Christian Klien on Istanbul

"By far the best and most exciting of Hermann Tilke's new circuits"

Can we have this for F1 tracks please?

Kubica Bitter After Missed Title Chance

Robert Kubica: "In our team everything is always planned step by step. But sometimes you have to deviate from your plans. When the opportunity for me to drive in Formula One came I could have said 'no, it's too early for me. I would rather wait for another year'. Instead you have to seize your chances, otherwise things could pass without you."

Q & A with John Howett

"In Barcelona we saw that in sector three – the slowest part of the track – our car was not performing as well as expected and this was magnified in Monaco, where the whole track is low speed. Basically our car is not particularly strong on slow-speed sections and we have to improve this."

The worst case scenario

"Compare that to a similar disaster – the United States Grand Prix in 2005 – when the FIA held firm and the race became a charade with a procession involving only six cars. It was a farce and did untold damage to F1 within the United States and across the world. Perhaps Mosley thought that day that he would win and the teams would back down and accept defeat. They did not. We can only hope that those involved in F1 do not make the same mistake again."

Funnily enough I wrote an article along similar lines with the same headline about a year ago: The worst-case scenario

  1. The baseball stadium tour is absolutely fantastic- I wish I had that before I caught a few games in Cleveland last weekend, but I’ll be sure to check it out before going to the new Yankee Stadium in July. If it can be done for F1 tracks, all the better :)

As for the new entries, I suspect that all of these teams have already submitted their paperwork, and are just making the announcements at this time. I really wonder how many of these squads are serious entrants and how many are just for show…..

    N.Technology?

Wow, I thin I’d rather have something generic like “Racing Engineering” (yes, I know they’re a decent GP2 team, but the name leaves a lot to be desired) than “N.Technology” …

  3. I am sure N Technology would get a half-decent sponsor and engine deal so you would actually know them as something like the ‘B&Q-Renault’ team. After all they won their WTCC championships as ‘Alfa Romeo’.
The term ‘Paper Tigers’ is a great one for the possible new teams next year. The article is very much along the lines of what I have been saying on this. I hadn’t realised that the FIA/FOTA negotiations had dried up though. Are FOTA just going to wait for Max to reject their possibly illegal entry forms? Nail biting stuff!
However, maybe this move could go in their favour. If they are told that they don’t have a valid entry for 2010 by the FIA, how can FOM then sue them for breach of contract? Wouldn’t they have to sue the FIA too (for promoting dodgy teams)?
And I can see the boards of FIAT, BMW, Mercedes and Renault (and the French, Italian and German governments) telling Bernie where to go if he tries to sue them…..

  4. Another bit of news:

“Start your own series then” says Mosley

    Hadn’t really thought of that.
But surely if the Teams have made conditional entires based on the FIA agreeing to certain counter-proposals, they are seeking to vary their original contract with the FIA. Whatever contract(s) the Teams have with FOM, must contain a clause stating that it’s a subsidiary contract and dependent on the FIA contract.
Otherwise, the FIA could cease F1 completely and unitlaterally and Bernie would then be able to sue all the teams for not racing in the FIA series, even though the FIA had abandoned it.

    Aaaargh! ‘entries’, not ‘entires’!

  7. start our own series. im pretty sure red bull would be in that other series too if they don’t sort out their problems regarding their energy products having cocaine on it.

  8. It’s taken me a while to come to this conclusion because of what’s at stake (the loss of F1 as we know it.)

But all the teams submitting conditional entries for 2010. Drop the conditions, adopt the proposed new rules and deal with it. Just like all F1 competitors always have. Those are the rules of the game…

Anything else is just ‘spoiled brat’ mentality.

    1. Doh, wrong thread…

      1. Oh, maybe not – bah! Never mind…

  9. The worst case scenario

he had me going…right up to the point he blames mosley for michelin’s defective tires. or is he blaming mosley for adhering to published rules? this is why i no longer read grandprix.com. all that’s missing is some hamilton cheerleading, or is that out of style now?

    1. Well if there is a problem were most teams cannot race, you can indeed say “it’s your own fault too bad” or “ok lets work this out”. Good for you that they indeed told the teams to take a hike. No more Yankee F1 now.

  10. If Kubica doesn’t be careful he might get a reputation as being grumpy lol…
