Sky Italia recorded a series of tributes to Felipe Massa from the F1 drivers at the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Here’s their video (it’s translated into Italian but you can hear a lot of the original comments in English).

      1. I am amazed at how many of them speak Italian and needed no translation!

I know Jason, Jarno doesn’t even have an accent!. amazing.

          Sorry i’ll stop that.

As an aside, did you notice some of the drivers look to the left when saying they can’t wait to have him back, eye movement goes to the left when pulling up memories.

I.e. what they said was from the heart and truth.

          1. Well, Jarno Trulli is Italian, so what do you expect?

I know that, it was a rubbish joke, really really rubbish.

        2. I guess they all like to be fluent just in case the team in red call…

            haha thats brilliant!.
Well we know Kubica is fluent because he’s been there years, we know Alonso is fluent because he’s a show off.

  2. This is cool!

  3. This is moving to say the least

Was a nice thing of them to do.
    Very touching.

Also, Massa seems to be a great guy and that shows on their attitude towards him :)

    1. Yeah you can see Felipe is a likeable guy and a good friend to all the drivers

  6. Its great to see this kind of camaraderie between the drivers.

  7. LOL!!!!!!! @ Kimi Raikkonen! He likes keeping things rather simple indeed!!!

  8. BTW there are some drivers missing right? Heikki, Sutil, Buemi, Algesuari, heidfield, Rosberg, Nakajima….

    1. Glock..

  9. Very feel good-ish

  10. has massa seen this yet?

  11. Always amazes me how most of the drivers are fluent in several languages.

    1. Not really. Almost all of them spoke in their native languages.
The only guys who didn’t were:
      Alonso – italian
      Kubica – italian
      Vettel – english

The drivers usually know either only English (the Brits) or their native language + English. It often happens that the Ferrari drivers also know Italian. Barrichello and Massa know Italian, as it was very easy for them to learn (because it’s a romanic language, just as Portuguese).

Kubica and Alonso are perfectly ready to go to Ferrari :)

  12. It was nice to see other drivers showing so much concern about Felipe.

How hard is it to take off your singlasses when you speak to someone. I mean seriously, leaving your sunnies on when you are sending a message so a serious lack of respect Kimi and Ruebens.

(I have always used the sign of leaving your sunnies on when you speak witha group of children as an easy way to identify subbish Phys Ed Teachers.)

    1. Stop right there, mate, and think for a moment.
Imagine this: you want to get from point A to point B. The moment you leave point A, a German reporter approaches you “Hi, Terry, what’s your message to the german fans? :D”, just after that another reporter is on you “Terry! What do you think about the race? :D”, then it’s “Terry! What’s your message to the Mexican fans :D??”, “Terry! How do you like it in Hungary :D??”, “Terry! What’s your message to Felipe??”, “Terry! What’s your message to Felipe’s family?”, “Terry! What’s your message to the starving people in Africa??”

Will you be taking off your glasses for each of these?? Come on!! Give those drivers a break!

The people for whom this video was made WAS NOT FELIPE. It’s for the fans.
Felipe doesn’t need those forced declarations on some random tv station.
The drivers know Felipe personally, they will have called him on the phone when the time’s right or visit him in the hospital.

They don’t have to take off their glasses only because YOU think this or that interview is sooooooo important.

        Gday Damon

Well firstly, would I take my sunnies off for each one of those scenarios? You’re right, Probably not.
However, considering a fellow driver has nearly been killed and in the case of Kimi, my teammate or Reubens, my countryman and with something that came off my car, I would like to think that a message to Felipe would be a little more heartfelt.

Am I judging them harshly? When you look at the video, you will notice that Lewis’s sunnies are on his head.. he took them off to give his message. Webber takes his off as soon as he starts talking. The only other driver who leaves his sunnies on is Jarno, who at least stands still and talks for more then a few seconds.

Kimi and Reuebens leave their sunnies on, keep walking while they talk, don’t take the mic like most of the other drivers and talk for a few seconds.

Now if this video is for the fans, and not for Felipe, then this still holds. I was glad to see my two favourites Jenson and Webber sending really nice messages to Felipe. If I supported Kimi or Reubens I would be really unimpressed with them for giving short glib messages.

And finally, you are right, no-one is forcing them to take off their sunnies when they speak. But when they leave them on, they send a message to me that they aren’t really interested in interacting with me and would rather be somewhere else.

Damon if I offended you with my comments about rubbish PE teachers I apologise. I wasn’t trying to h ave a go at you, just trying to relate something I used to teach new staff members when they came to work at my Outdoor Learning camp (‘TAKE OF YOUR SUNNIES WHEN YOU TALK TO THE KIDS!!!!!!’)

        Have a good day mate.
