F1 links: Button backlash begins

Jenson Button’s the hunted one! Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull rev up title pressure

"‘I don’t think people are saying that seriously. Who would possibly say that? “Does Jenson want to win the title or not?” It is a pretty silly question, isn’t it? ‘Why the **** am I here? That is not a question, is it? In reality that is not a question.'" Button gives an angry response to a question about whether he “really wants to win the championship”. Typical ‘build ’em up, knock ’em down’ stuff we’re used to seeing from the British sports press.

Belgian GP Press Conference

Heikki Kovalainen: "I think first of all this weekend we are not going to be running the short wheel base car on both sides. I think there was some uncertainty about it in Valencia, so the team’s decided not to run the spec that Lewis (Hamilton) had in Valencia. I was happy with the long wheel base car and all the preparations have been with the long wheel base. It would not have been a big advantage for me as I am lighter and I can set up the car and move the weight around easier than Lewis, so they are the facts why we are not running them. I don’t think we even have it here with us this weekend, so I don’t even think we will be testing it."

Grosjean not willing to give up bank job

"New Renault F1 star driver Romain Grosjean is currently combining his job as a racing driver with a second role as banker in his home town Geneva, Switzerland. Practically unheard of in modern day Formula One, the Frenchman hopes to continue working for both Renault and the bank."

Abu Dhabi here we come – exclusive Q&A with Richard Cregan

"When you visit the circuit now you can see it is very near completion in terms of the track and the infrastructure. They have been fitting all of the Tech-Pro barriers, for example, and following the inspection by the FIA’s Charlie Whiting we have some guidelines on issues there."

If Button had kept inside Vettel off the line in Valencia, he probably would have made it to the second corner without a front wing. He’s not being conserative, he’s just not in the practice of doing stupid things.

    1. More importantly, here’s an F1 car made of bread.

This one just beaten the F1 car made of wood…

Ferrari made another brilliant statement in your site:

      Waiting list

It might not be the best season for the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, but the possibility to drive one of the Reds must be very appetising, at least when one considers the number of drivers, who have been brought up by the media and the fans and even by some of the drivers themselves as candidates for Felipe Massa’s F60 number 3, without even considering some suggestions from the afterworld…
The list is so long that almost every letter in the alphabet has a corresponding driver…but let’s see the details:

      A as in Fernando Alonso
B as in Jules Bianchi, Mirko Bortolotti and Sebastien Bourdais
      C as in David Coulthard
      D as in Anthony Davidson
F as in Giancarlo Fisichella and Luca Filippi
      G as in Marc Gené
      H as in Nico Hulkenberg
      K as in Robert Kubica
L as in André Lotterer and Vitantonio Liuzzi
P as in Nelson Piquet (Jr.) and Giorgio Pantano
R as in Valentino Rossi and Davide Rigon
S as in Takuma Sato and Bruno Senna
      T as in Jarno Trulli
      V as in Jos Verstappen

Before anyone feels offended we want to underline that we have the highest respect for all of these drivers and we apologise also in the name of those who brought up their names to those who haven’t been mentioned, like Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button, but there’s always time for some fresh ideas.

      1. So that’s Ferrari’s list of drivers who could do a better job than Badoer, is it?

      2. Regarding that wooden F1 car, it looks like he would have to take it apart to get it out of that room.

It reminds me of an old episode of Top Gear where a man had built a car in his house and ended up having to take a wall down to get it out. He said when he started it was convenient to build it there as it was warm and close by and when he realised it was getting too big he thought he may as well finish it where it was then move it.

  2. The comment that the media “Build ’em up, and knock ’em down” is spot on, Button should tell the media to go speak to Kimi if they want a response….Or better still just wear the dark glasses, and speak in a monotone, giving only the most basic of answers whilst holding two fingers up!!

  3. In the FIA press release Grosjean sums it all up IMO: More ground effect, less aero = interesting racing.

    1. it seems obvious really. i think the diffusers have a detrimental effect, really churning the air up. anything that removes reliance on aerodynamic grip would be a good thing. the bigger front wing actually made it worse.

  4. Typical ‘build ‘em up, knock ‘em down’ stuff we’re used to seeing from the British sports press.

I can’t stand the British tabloids. That quote from Jenson at the start of the season would have been welcomed as “refreshing honesty”. Now he’s not doing so well it’s a stick to beat him with.

  5. The BBC say the Abu Dhabi GP will be a twilight race, 17:00 local time (13:00 GMT) with the sun due to set at 17:45.

  6. Bread? I cannot let that go without giving chocolate it’s due:

  7. Penguin to release Formula One book range.

    I love this quote:

Ideal reading for all Formula One fanatics, this must-have book also contains all the key statistics as well as a guide to race safety, the qualifying process and the role of the pit crew.

I cant wait to see your review…
