Has the mystery of who was Renault’s ‘Witness X’ been solved?

According to this morning’s “Daily Mail” the team’s chief race engineer Alan Permane was the fourth witness who provided incriminating evidence to the FIA:

Alan Permane was Witness X, the Renault employee whose crucial evidence contributed to Briatore’s conviction.

Meanwhile, the team has revealed it will run with Renault logos in place of its missing ING and Mutua Madrilena branding this weekend.

  1. No, it isn’t. Mr X is Alonso!

    1. Yes, yes, yes. We know your opinion. You’ve already said it 100 times. ;-)

    2. Seriously, enough.

    3. No, YOU are Mr. X instead!

    4. Good God, leave it alone!!

  2. thats got to p the lynch mob off.

  3. Seeing the words “Daily” and “Mail” makes me very sceptical about how much this story can be trusted…

    1. my thoughts exactly!

    2. but seeing the name mp4-19b does not make you skeptical?

    3. wasn’t his name left off official fia documents that named all witnesses…

As if they wouldn’t question the team’s chief race engineer.
I think some one mentioned this a few days ago now..hardly murder she wrote stuff…

  4. Horses head on the pillowcase time??

  5. I thought it was another engineer – no brainer really. It wouldn’t have been the cleaner or the caterer, and we all know Alonso knew anyway but has no morals to admit it or do the right thing and to the authorities.

    1. There is no need for any anonymity. Be it Mr X,Y,Z whatever. I’m convinced that Alonso knew of this & also participated in the conspiracy. But majority of the people here seem to be clouded . I can only hope that they see reason. The day is not too far when Piquet Sr will go mad(cuz his son wouldn’t have secured a f1 seat) & pin down Alonso. After all it was for Alonso’s sake that his son crashed. The Brazilian TV guy was hinting that another bomb would go off. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to be this. By that time Alonso would be employed at Ferrari & he’ll make sure that Ferrari sink along with him! That’s his nature. Two eyes for an eye.

      1. Not clouded, but they get on with there lives. You two have this mad infatuation with Alonso being the devil. Try to post something on this site without getting a hissy fit.

What’s your take now? Mr X is protecting Alonso? What do you think of him saying the whole idea was Piquets’? Another theory that you guys seem to eat up: Maybe Piquet Sr put the idea into Piquet Jr head, maybe thinking of how it went on in the ‘old’ days.

  6. It was also obvious his name would be revealed sooner or later.

  7. Given the source of this story my first reaction is not to believe it. I wonder if the journalist is using the tactic of naming people just to see if they get a denial so they can cross a name off the list of potential candidates.

The identity of Witness X will come out eventually and I think it will be an engineer or mechanic.

  8. I think the more pertinent question here is whether Flav outfitted Alonso with a spearhook…

  9. Just blame Alonso anyway, it’s a valid point to raise in any discussion here.

  10. Well, the info almost everybody have in the F1 environment -including the italian RED HQ- is different.

But in any case, we do not want anybody in Ferrari that has been already involved in two “nasty” cases.

    Sorry, but we prefer Raikkonen.

  11. How do you filter out news stories that refer to “The Daily Mail” in your browser?

    1. if you find out let me know so I can filter out mp4-19b…
