Racing under floodlights: yes, the safety implications are questionable and running 1,500 lights each pumping out 2,000 watts of energy is not the most environmentally friendly way of hosting a Grand Prix.

But you can’t deny it looks anything less than stunning. Have a look at these brilliant pictures from Singapore Grand Prix qualifying.

  1. Who took all the photos or where are they from? stunning

  2. yes, the safety implications are questionable

Its only unsafe if Nelson Piquet crashes on purpose!

  3. I’d rather get up at 3am or whatever and watch it in daylight – but that’s just me

    1. Yea. I feel they should alternate between a night and day race every year. The track looks stunning in daylight.

  4. Its harder to get great pics with less light but I still love the contrast of the the night time against the cars.

    Thanks, as always.

  5. Great images. You can always get a great new Desktop from Singapore pics :)

  6. Anyone notice all the empty seats?

    1. I thought race day was a sell-out, maybe I’m wrong!

  7. The energy usage of the floodlights is small beans compared to the carbon footprint of the F1 circus as it travels around the world.

And that is small beans compared to the carbon footprint of hundreds of thousands of fans travelling to see Grands Prix.

So no GP is going to be environmentally friendly, ever.

    Oh well…
