Pointer wins round six as Predictions Championship leads is tied

Pointer correctly named everyone in the top five - except the race winner

Pointer won round six of the F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship by correctly guessing the second, third, fourth and fifth-place finishers.

But, like almost everyone else, he didn’t tip Mark Webber to repeat his Barcelona feat of winning from pole position.

Pointer and Owen G both scored 29 points – but Pointer claims the overall prize for this round having come closer to guessing Webber’s pole position time. He wins a Lotus DVD boxset and Owen G’s prize is a painting of the race winner.

Owen G moves up to joint fifth in the championship with round four winner Claudioff. Arpi_ and J-Canada are tied in the lead of the championship after six of 19 races.

Fernando Alonso’s strong form on Thursday led more than half of players to predict him to take pole position and win the race. His crash in final practice put paid to that.

Apologies to those of you who had trouble entering your predictions for this round. From looking at the data it seems everyone was eventually able to enter their predictions via the form or email. We will continue to work on fixing the problem.

See below for the standings in full and find more statistics on the Predictions Championship here:

The prizes

This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.

On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix

The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.

Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice

The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.

You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011

The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.

The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.

This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.

Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

Duke Video are supplying the prize for the player who gets the highest score in each round.

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994.

Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.

Race runners-up prize: F1 race winner print

The second place finisher in each race will win a 40x35cm print of the race winner

This prize is supplied by Motorsport in Print.

  1. IF:
    – Massa would crash in FP3 instead of Alonso
    – Massa wouldn’t make it to top 5 after starting from the pitlane
    – Alonso would finish the race in 2nd place

I’d score all 50 points. WEB, WEB ALO VET KUB HAM was my prediction.

Still a nice amount of points, great to be in top 15.

  2. And yet another awful round for me! Still 14th :)

  3. Damn, I’m hugely consistant.

Not going to win me much though ;)

  4. Same here, I’m feeling like the Nick Heidfield of prediction.

  5. I had a nightmare round! Amazed I’m still up the sharp end. Roll on Turkey!

  6. up to joint 38th from 105th (im on form :D).

  7. One thing forsure Turkey will be more predictable. I mean sultan Felipe will be shine.

On Thursday I said I got a ‘message from God’ that both the Red Bull’s would retire and Lewis Hamilton would win… well thanks a lot God, I only got 3 points, shows how much you know about F1…

    1. I didn’t believe you yet I scored worse. Only 2 points this time. Slipped big time from 64 to 116th. Vettel as winner, Alo second webber third. Yeah and Vettel on Pole. Worst round for me so far. I’ll score max points in Turkey ;P

I got a Message from God too – He promised me that Rubens wouldn’t crash and that this was his race to “step up”….. so I should pick him to be in the top five…..

Good to see the Almighty has a sense of humor!

i’m up from around joint 88th, to tenth. needless to say, i’m very happy, =D

  10. Another 5 points, that’s three races in a row now

  11. I’ve missed the first prediction alas so I’ve given up after 3 rounds. After the change of the points system it’s unable to catch up.

    1. I wouldn’t say so. Even if you started from scratch right now you could score 650 points and the leaders have got 74.

Championship prizes go down to 13th place which is 50 points – you can win that in one race.

And remember there’s two prizes per round as well, it’s not just the overall championship where people win prizes.

      1. Anyway Keith, I still haven’t got any confirmation about my prize from the first round.

        1. Thanks for posting that Arpi_ – I did email you at the time but I never heard back. I’ll send a copy of the confirmation to the email address you used for this comment.

          1. Cheers mate! Reply has been sent.

      2. Ok, Keith, you got me. I’m back in the game. Thanks!

        1. Glad to hear it :-)

    2. i missed one round too. I remembered what i would have predicted, turns out it was my best round so far. Would have got 18 points, putting me up from around 776th place to around 152nd…
But dont give up! I could have made up over 600 places in one round, everyone can still win!

  12. I’m never usually defeatist but I have to admit that this season I have been absolutely pathetic. In fact, I swear Bernie reads them and is fixing the race so the exact opposite happens of what I want.

    1. In that case, turn it to your advantage – starting predicting drivers or teams you don’t like will win…

    2. and worse still, your behind me!!! :p

    3. Stop picking Chandhock then :-p

  13. two points i wonder what i had good, i don’t think i had it right was was hoping that alonso was winning. I think i had Hamiltion correct…
Monaco i hoped was with rain but heck next time beter )

  14. Keith, I absolutely love this competition. Can’t wait for Tuesdays to roll around to see where I’ve ended up.

Can I ask – is it possible for ‘the system’ to send an automated response to the users email showing their predictions? It would be nice as I often forget what I’ve predicted!! Ok – I remmeber most of them, but it would be handy.

    Cheers!!

    1. Not at the moment but it’s something we might so in the future. Glad you’re enjoying the contest!

    Stayed in 11th this round…

    I think I:

    – Should give a little credit to Mark Webber and start picking him.
    – Should stop changing my mind in the last minute (had placed Hamilton in 5th and then changed to 4th just before submiting…)

Or else I’ll lose my Autocourse copy! =P

    1. I always go with my gut instinct so the second point doesn’t happen, not doing a lot of good for me so far but at least I have no regrets :P

      1. Hehe yeah the regrets are the worst. I too shall pick Webber more often from now on.

I was 11th after Spain, and I thought I’d get pushed down the order but I’m actually 9th now with 9 points from Monaco. Yay.

  16. Ahhhh…..i forgot to add my prediction in time, no points :-(

Anways i was going to put Alonso on pole and winner :-) not too much lost :-)

    Cheers.

    1. Alo/Alo was what I had, as I recall. I scored 5 whole points! And plummeted 3 spots.

  17. no word yet on being able to see our previous predictions?
yes i can see the points total for each race, but no record of who i picked. i guess i should start writing them down elsewhere…

    1. correction, i can see the most recent race’s picks (prediction champ. page), but none before that…unless i’m just not the best site navigator ….

      1. Try the page https://www.racefans.net/community/f1-fanatic-predictions-championship/

Below the entry form click ‘Show Predictions’. At the bottom of that list is a drop down to view previous races.

        Ian.

  18. Dropped from 57th to 116th

I came back after just after P3 to find out what happened, and I was shocked to be looking at my predictions sitting there in front of me, ready to be posted….. AHHHHHH!

  19. How do we lodge an appeal?

I was trying to submit my entry 5 minutes before final practise and was unable to get the site to accept them….

Stephen, Keith said the predictions in the end did go through.

Also if your having trouble with it still try out Opera browser.

      http://www.opera.com/download/

Its optimised to be used with these sort of plug ins.

Failing that ask ianhaycox on here, he’s a wizard at this sort of thing.

    2. I’m sorry Stephen but despite the technical problems the deadline has to remain fixed. There was the option of emailling your prediction in and there was a four-day window for them to be submitted.

      1. The appeal request was actually tongue in cheek. I thought it was somewhat topical. ;-)

It is frustrating that the servers idea of what time it is and FOM’s seems slightly different. I normally enter my predictions in the 5 minute window before, and have never had a problem.

Obviously at that point it is too late to send an email, and having been able to get the site to take the prediction by hitting return I had hoped you’d simply look at the submission time.

Never mind. These things happen. :)

    3. Appeal, ha ha!!

I thought appeal on penalties given in the last 5 laps (or in your case, last 5 minutes) are inadmissible.

  20. How do we submit entries by email? I’ve been only able to submit entries when in work, using my mobile doesn’t work (both Nokia built in browser and opera mini fail).

    1. It’s explained in the rules, which are printed alongside every predictions form.

      1. Thanks. Never knew it was an option so never looked for it. K.

  21. Doh, it didnt rain, had MSC for the win. The chances of winning the grand prize are so low that if I win Ill by everyone one there a Hotdog.

  22. 3 measly points…went from tied 21st to 102nd in 2 races :(
