Jarno Trulli

Took ‘new team pole’ once again, 1.3 seconds behind Vitantonio Liuzzi’s Force India.

Started the race on the hard compounds tyre but we never got to see how his strategy would have played out as he retired with hydraulic failure.

Heikki Kovalainen

Started on the soft tyres and passed his team mate on lap 13, but hydraulic failure ended his race as well:

I lost power steering in turn eight and it looks like it was a hydraulics failure. At first I thought I had a puncture as the steering suddenly felt really strange, but then I lost the gearbox, the clutch, and throttle. It’s so unfortunate as this was our strongest race so far.

    1. 1.3 seconds of the pace of the slowest established team is damn impressive. Next year you get the feeling Lotus is could be bang in the middle of the established teams on quali pace at least. Where they progress from there depends on Gascoyne, Fernandes, the people they can hire, an what shape the recource restriction agreement really takes in years future. I really wonder whether Lotus or any of the new teams will ever be able to start fighting for regular wins or even championships.

    2. did anyone else absoulutely love it when one of the lotus cars tried to overtake a williams (i think) on the back straight? :D was weird seeing them doing the overtaking.

      1. Actually it was Hulkenberg who had just overtaken a Lotus, but the Lotus got a better exit out of turn 10 and slipstreamed the Williams to almost overtake it.

        1. yeah that’s what i meant. was great action all around!

    3. i think lotus will catch up to the slowest mid teams with 3 or 4 racers to go next year mid pack

      1. It’ll be very interesting to see where all the new teams end up next year. HRT could make a big jump as well with an all new in house car. Or they could make a giant leap backwards…

    4. What a pity…..the had the pace all weekend to believe that they have closed the gap to the midfield runners…
