Zandvoort, the former home of the Dutch Grand Prix, will see a current F1 car in action this weekend as Sebastian Vettel demonstrates a Red Bull F1 car at the track.
Red Bull are sponsoring the annual Masters of Formula Three race which takes place at the Dutch circuit this weekend.
Recent winners of the event include Lewis Hamilton (2005), Force India tester Paul di Resta (2006), Nico Hulkenberg (2007), Ferrari development driver Jules Bianchi (2008) and Williams tester Valtteri Bottas (2009).
Zandvoort was designed by John Hugenholz, who was also behind the Suzuka circuit. It held Formula 1 races from 1952 to 1985.
Although it has been substantially redesigned since its last F1 race it still bears many hallmarks of the original track including the famous Tarzan corner.

This is great news for Vettel, Zandvoort has plenty of right handers.

But being a narrow track, there’s not enough room for him!

I’ve never understood why Tarzan was so popular. Isn’t it just another hairpin? I’ve never thought it was anything special while driving on video games? Although if someone would like to enlighten me on why it’s so great, go ahead!

One of the reasons is that there’s usually more grip on the outside of the corner than the inside. It’s an unconventional line to take around the corner, rather than it being “just another hairpin.”

The things is that there are two fastest lines through it. Or at least it used to be like that in the past.
Also, it’s banked so maybe the drivers experience high G’s there. Especially in cars that are not focussed to much on aerodynamics.

@ Ned Flanders
Tarzan is kind of exciting because it’s actually much faster than it looks.
I have driven Zandvoort a few times in real and when you first enter the corner it does look quite tight. But after a few laps you realise that you can actually go through it much faster than you’d expect as it has got quite some banking.
Also it is slightly uphill, when you approach the corner at the end of the straight you just face a short gravel-trap followed by a tirewall, it just looks like you will never make it through, eventhough the grip is there, and once you’re in it you realise that. I think that’s what makes it fun to drive :)
Come to think of it, I think the entire track is pretty good :D
