The FIA only lists the total time spent in pit lane for each car – it does not produce complete data on the stationary times for every pit stop. The times above therefore reflect the total time lost by each car during its pit stop, minus the typical pit lane time loss for this track. It shows not only how quickly the team performed the tyre change (typically around three seconds), but also how well the driver stopped on his mark and accelerated away again.

Sorry, Rosberg’s time was actually quickest! Afraid the top of the table got cut off. Amended it.

Why is Nico Rosberg missing from this list? I think he pitted on lap 25 in a pretty respectable time (and certainly quicker than 169.78 seconds!)

Thanks for the screenshot, I remember seeing it during the race. Now the question is which figure is wrong?

Neither is wrong. Read the last paragraph again.

But if I understand correctly the way in which the pit-stop times are measured are the same – tv feed (as shown in the screenshot above) says 2,9 seconds. This list shows that pitstop was done at 5,18 seconds. In a sport as precise as Formula 1 where the difference between pole position and second place was 0,002 seconds that is HUGE margin of error.

You haven’t understood correctly. I can’t really spell it out more clearly than I have in the article – this is not a list of stoppage times for each pit stop because no such list is compiled by the FIA.

Do the teams allocate each driver with their own pit crew, or does it depend on who enters the pits at whatever lap that determines which driver gets which crew? If they do have their own crew then Hamiltons lot need to sort themselves out, they’ve been pretty poor all season.

The same crew does the stop for both drivers.

Brawn still knows how to forge a team. Give him a new genius lead designer and with his professionalism and the Mercedes funding and he will be very dangerous

personally i think Ferrari and McLaren should sack there pit crews considering how much money is spent on making the cars go faster, if they cant beat 4sec, im sure someone else would do a better job.

Mercedes has pretty consistently had some of the fastest standing pit stops this year. I think the on screen graphic showed one under 3 seconds this weekend.

Don’t Forget that BrawnGP was the constructor world champion last year, so they have the first garage..
