Jarno Trulli

Felt he wasn’t able to extract the maximum from the car in qualifying:

It’s a bit disappointing today. I was going well on the first run but I was held by the traffic in the last sector and lost about 4/10ths, so we had to abort that lap – it’s a shame as that was looking like pretty good. On the second run the tyres didn’t work as well as we’d hoped and that cost me a lot of time.
Jarno Trulli

Lotus didn’t pit him during the safety car – he was brought in on lap 20 instead. That dropped him behind his team mate, where he stayed until the end.

Heikki Kovalainen

Finished a quiet 14th, gaining a place off his team mate who did not pit during the safety car.

    1. The seemed very evenly matched on pace here! Maybe that means they both got the maximum out of the package.

    2. held by traffic? sounds funny for them.
Pretty closed match teammates. Going the right way!

      1. vettel block trulli on his flying lap.

    3. Good result today! What has been taken has not to be taken (french proverb). 14th place of Kova is important for the 10th team championship place. Average race pace was a little bit better than Virgin but not very much : Trulli was slightly pulling away from Di Grassi before the SC intervention and then the 2 Lotuses maintained Glock behind and the gap became bigger at the end of the race. But this is quite close and as Virgin will continue to developp the VG01 and Lotus has stopped working on the T127 (focusing now entirely on the 2011 car) the end of the season might be difficult for the team. Let’s see…

Thats my concern for the rest of the season, whilst I agree with the decision to focus on the 2011 car it means that virgin might start finishing infront of lotus on the Sunday.

Also it’s the first race of the season that all of the new teams finished so congratulations there.

    4. I thought it was interesting that all the retirements today were from established teams. Lotus, HRT, and Virgin all finished the race with both cars, albeit all multiple laps behind Webber.

Kind of a tortoise and hare thing, eh? Like how I drive around 7 mph below the speed limit and still beat the sports cars to work, whom I pass as they are pulled over receiving speeding tickets.

Gotta love that 4-banger power. The rust color is exquisite as well.

    5. All Lotus can do this season is to collect enough information about the car & track which will help them to develop a point scoring car in 2011. They do have a strong technical & management team which will progress in the future.

    6. If these 3 teams can now finish most of the races without further technical problems, i want to see them have a bit of a fight for the 10th position.
Lotus is up front for now and has the more competative drivers (DiGrassi not yet on it) but Virgin is still developing the car, making up for what they lost when they had to redo the car to fit a bigger fuel tank.
HRT will end last if these two teams can finish the races, otherwise they might still have a chance by plain amount of finishes.

      1. DiGrassi did have fastest lap of the new teams.

    7. What reason is there for saying Lotus is the best of the 3 new teams? None of them have any points yet.

      1. Because Lotus finished 13th in Australian GP which is the highest race finish between the new teams in this season so far. Even in F1.com the driver and constructor standings, Lotus on top than other new teams.

    8. I don’t normally post but I enjoyed your blog site a lot.
