Rain to disrupt Belgian GP practice

Rain is likely to hit practice for the Belgian Grand Prix tomorrow but the race could be dry.

Radar images show a large band of heavy rain is heading towards the area and is expected to fall on Friday and continue into Saturday.

Rain showers are forecast throughout the weekend so the teams can expect the usual unpredictable Ardennes weather with showers materialising at short notice and possibly only hitting some parts of the seven kilometre long track.

    1. No surprise there then.

    2. Why oh why must it always rain in Pratice sessions but not when it counts on Saturday and Sunday?? Oh giver of rain, do us all a favour and make an appearance on Sunday. Wet races at Spa cannot be anything other than epic.

(Oh and thanks for anyone who complimented my Tilkedrome article. I would’ve justified some of my choices in the comments but I’m away on holiday so I didn’t have a chance. Needless to say, I think Tilke does deserve at least a smidgen of credit)

      1. I wondered if you were absent given the absence of those comments – enjoy the holiday Ned. Once again, it was a brave and well executed different view on Tilke tracks. Good discussion piece, great work.

      2. I hope you enjoyed your hollidays Ned, and thanks for giving us a nice read to fil up the time.

But even if Spa is dry, it might still give a bit of a local shower or drizzle to spice up one or to corners on the circuit. It’s just the magic of the place :-D

      3. Nice Tilkedrome work Ned. Liking the new avatar.

Dear Jim, please can you fix it for us to have some nice drizzle just before the start of the race, and then some more with about 4 laps to go. Yours, Bernie.

    3. Even if we don’t get rain on Saturday or Sunday (please God let us though) it’ll still be good. Rain will disrupt practice hopefully and cause lower levels of grip. It won’t be anywhere near as manic as Canada probably but it’ll still mean we get a little chaos possibly.

    4. Wet practice with dry race will mean less dry time for the driver on the circuit & the circuit will be green, it will be interesting.

    5. Keith that Eumetsat weather radar link is wrong. It should be
      http://oiswww.eumetsat.org/IPPS/html/MSG/PRODUCTS/MPE/CENTRALEUROPE

      1. Fixed, thanks.

    6. I am quiet sure it will be raining at all days and my experience of the ardennes it will be NOT constant but a periode showers followed by dry which then getting rain again.

And the rain will be of different intensity of showers.

I live in Rotterdam i watch the weather reports and i hear NW winds with lots of rain coming in for the weekend.

    7. Bit of rain on Sunday would be the prize.

    8. Please weather gods, I’ve been missing rain for ages…

    9. According to NobleF1, it’s already hammering down at Spa.

      1. typically on the wrong day!

    10. use this link it’s for Spa itself. Dutch but understandable

      1. From that link it looks like it might be a wet race, 70% might actually hit the track somewhere.

Even if not, those temperatures are certain to give some trouble heating up the tyres (especially hards). That might give some interesting situations as well.

        1. Yeah this reckons more chance of rain Saturday/sunday over friday! hope so…

    11. I don’t trust weather forecasts nowadays but most of the dry races have been good this year, so I’m not too bothered ;)

I have a new policy on the weather forecasts for Formula 1. “If a wet race is forecast, expect it to be dry. If a dry race is forecast, expect it to be dry.”
