Vamla wins predictions competition round 15 as the championship closes up

With four rounds of the Predictions Championship remaining the fight for the win has closed up with ten points covering the top nine.

Tom Hitchings holds onto a reduced lead after Vamla, who’s currently ranked 87th, made the top prediction for the Singapore Grand Prix. The second place prize went to George Chatzipantelis.

Surprisingly, only 5.8% of people picked Fernando Alonso to win the race. Sebastian Vettel was by far the favourite with three-quarters choosing the Red Bull driver to win (more here).

Vamla and George correctly named Alonso as the pole sitter and winner, and also got the second, third and fourth-placed finishers right.

We’re still yet to see a perfect prediction this year – will we get one in the final four races of the season?

The prizes

This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.

On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix

The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.

Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice

The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.

You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011

The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.

The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.

This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.

Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

Duke Video are supplying the prize for the player who gets the highest score in each round.

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994. (Please note this DVD is in PAL format).

Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.

Race runners-up prize: Two F1 T-shirts

The second place finisher in each race will win a race winner’s T-shirt and Official F1 Fanatic T-shirt from Unlap.

This prize is supplied by Unlap.

  1. 113th, still knocking on the door of the top 100!

  2. Oh dear… That was a bad round for me – 5 points and I have slipped to 145th with 86 points.

    1. I am only a bit worse off with the same result, i have slipped to 154th with one point less than you.

    2. This wasn’t bad. 5 points was the typical result.

  3. 7 points and 454th place after missing five rounds in the middle of the season. My average when I have predicted is 5.8 points. Don’t worry guys, I’m not going to be challenging for the title this year!

  4. I’m a bit of a Lewis Hamilton. Hit a ruff patch in the past 5 races.

  5. A small climb in rank for myself, but only 16 points behind the leader now. Hamilton’s crash out cost me quite a few points, as I suspect it did a lot of people.

    1. Not least of which, Lewis Hamilton…

      1. hehe yeah I suppose so :P

        1. what is the closest championship this year? The fantasy or the real one?

  6. Man… I’ve scored every round, but just cannot seem to get that ONE round where I do well and bump me out of the 300’s :/

  7. Damn, 3rd poor result in a row, but surprinsigly I don’t seem to lose a lot of positions…
I desperatly need a very good result if I want a pretty F1 book :)

    1. I scored 11 points this time and didn’t seem to do ANY upward movements at all..
Lost a lot of points this summer when on vacation in Europe and spotty internet access :( 3 rounds that I couldn’t do any predictions (hey Keith just a friendly reminder/query if fixed to submit predictions from Blackberry? )

  8. Just noticed something – George Chatzipantelis was the very last person (out of 599) to submit his entry for Singapore, and made the joint best prediction of the race result. Not just was he last, but he got in with one second to spare before 11am!

This was also Mr GC’s first entry to this year’s predictions championship. From this I guess we can learn 2 things – (a) leave it as late as possible, and (b) there’s hope for us all!

    1. Yes, but what his internet had lagged 2 seconds?

  9. The AFL Grand Final was on last weekend & i forgot to put my predicitions in :(

That Hamilton crash was a conspiracy…… to keep me out of the top 50 of course.

    Someone alert the stewards!

Good job to Vamla with this race’s predictions :)

  11. I’m 1 of the 5.8% for ALO to win but failed to guess the rest…

    @Casanova :D
I almost missed the entry :O
I made changes in the last moment which turned out wrong, and pushed the button as I saw there’s no time left.

But anyway I laughed hard, you know, first time I took part in this competition, and I won! :D

    Congrats to Vamla!

  13. 7 points place 229 with 79 points total. I really suck with this i have the most names in the top 5 but it’s looks those drivers are watching my entries and try to swap places as much as they can!

Any help would be greeted with my sincerly thanks! ( i need those vip tickets!)
