With two races to go there are still five drivers in the hunt for the championship. But that could all change this weekend.

Who do you most want to win this year’s world championship? Pick any number of the five drivers and cast your vote so we can see who the most popular tip for the title is.

Fernando Alonso

Points: 231
Wins: 5

Got his Ferrari career off to a dream start by winning at Bahrain.

Then went into something of a slump, not helped by costly mistakes at Shanghai, Monaco and Silverstone.

But since the controversy of Hockenheim he’s been an ever-present threat, winning four of the last seven races to take the lead in the championship.

Mark Webber

Points: 220
Wins: 4

Having led the championship for many races he lost his grasp on the number one spot with a crash at Korea.

Prior to that he had reliably translated the RB6’s pace into points on a regular basis, taking four wins including dominant performances at Spain and Monaco.

Lewis Hamilton

Points: 210
Wins: 3

Led the championship at the middle point of the season but hit a rough patch with three no-scores in four races at Hungary, Italy and Singapore.

Unreliability – not something you’d associate with McLaren in recent seasons – deprived him of some valuable points but when both McLarens have finished Hamilton’s has usually been ahead.

Sebastian Vettel

Points: 206
Wins: 3

Without the mechanical failures that struck while he was leading in Bahrain, Melbourne and Korea (by no means an exhaustive list) he’d be 63 points better off.

But his own errors of judgement at Istanbul and Spa cost him more than his present 25-point deficit to Fernando Alonso.

On his day – like at Sepang, Valencia and his beloved Suzuka – he’s been peerless. Fourth in the championship is a poor reflection of the form he’s shown he’s capable of.

Jenson Button

Points: 189
Wins: 2

Clinging on to his hopes of retaining his 2009 championship by his fingernails.

Button has been the most error-free of the five championship contenders but in his first season at McLaren he’s usually been a couple of tenths of a second slower than Hamilton.

Opportunistic wins at Melbourne and Shanghai, plus a sterling performance at Monza with an unusual set-up, have been his stand-out performances this season.

  1. hope alonso wins !! he’s the best driver there

    1. no way, Hamilton already gave him a lesson on his rookie year!!

      1. it would certainly be interesting to put them in the same car again. Hamilton’s much better now than he was in 07/08, that was until italy and singapore…

But still, i get the feeling he’s a much more mature driver

        1. Shame Alonso would never let it happen.

Hamilton has made only the one mistake this season at Monza. Far less then Alonso and the two red bulls. As for Singapore, I must say I still struggle to see why this was Lewis’ fault.

          1. i dont see how lewis is better than the first half of 07. that was his best mistake-less period by far.

he has made more mistakes than just monza. ok singapore is 50/50 depending on your view. in the same way it is between alonso button at melbourne. but he lost his rag with his team in australia, again in turkey(despite winning), fell off the road in spa(got away with it). crashed in practice in germany and suzuka wrecking new updates on both occasions. nearly wrecked his weekend by coming off in pit lane in korea qualy. and letting fernando by at turn 1 after SC.

so he has made errors. certainly.

he and fernando have made errors. tho still probably less than red bull.

button has made least errors but just hasnt had the speed to compete. most of his points have been due the others not scoring.

      2. Everyone knows that Ham and Alo werent running on the same wheels anyway Vettel deservs to win I want Webber to win and probbably Alonso will win my policy always rules out drivers that dont win more than 3 times, lucky or not Ham only won a race for me and Alo too on singapore

      3. Only cause hamilton copies alonso’s set up. Hamilton doesn’t know how to set up a car!

        1. well said fc he copied alonsos set up various times

        2. So you defend Fernando Alonso by claiming that he couldn’t drive his own setup as fast as someone else? And someone was naive enough to agree with that?

          1. Haha well said plus Hamilton was a rookie so copying alonsos set up isnt really a big deal all rookies do it. But lets get away from Mclaren 07 its been done to death.

Throw in my 2 cents, im a Hamilton fan so would obviously love him to win it but if im honest Mclaren dont really deserve it as they have have always had the 2nd/3rd best car as well as some reliability issues. Therefore I also voted webber, best car (sure not reliable), least retirements and in a team that doesnt want him to win

  2. I want Lewis, but he doesn’t have the car :( so, i’m hoping Mark can win it.

    1. Agree, hope Lewis wins..Webber, next best thing.

Both Lewis and Mark worked incredibly hard, Webber against his team mate as well as all the other title contenders and Lewis the same but in the 3rd fastest car.

Alonso has been lucky and has clearly been receiving preferential treatment at the expense of Massa. Vettel is just over hyped and frankly I cant stand his Chershire Cat grin and all that “…zat’s vat am tolking abowt” spiel ;)

Go Lewis, the best and most exciting driver on the grid today.

      1. Show me where else Alonso has been lucky other than Korea. Actually he has been quite unlucky in some cases like canada, valencia….

Also the most unlucky driver of 2010 is Lewis.

        1. Exactly! When has Alonso been luckier than the rest?! Actually, the luckiest guy in the grid has been Button, who got two wins just by pure luck!

          1. From Vettel alnoe, Alonso was gifted points in Bahrain, Spain, Hungary and Korea, not mention Hokkenheim, where he got a win he did not deserve.

Button wasn’t lucky, he was helped by Mclaren who, rightly, knew he was no match for Lewis Hamilton.

          2. I don’t know Santi, if Button has had two wins to pure luck, then Alonso has had 3!

          3. exactly where has alonso been lucky? what a load of rubbish why dont we start talking some sense here instead of rubbish?

      2. For sum reason i don’t want Webber to win. :-(
i prefer vettel. 1. because he is clearly the faster of the 2 RBRs and 2. Because well he is faster of the 2 RBRs! :D
no frankly cause okay he’s been ridiculous and naive in the beginning, but now he’s gotten really pro like and well her clearly deserves the victory.
But i really hope Lewis wins. :-D

    2. an alonso fan as far as i can see.

    3. Agreed. Hamilton, if not, Webber, but it looks like Alonso’s to lose now.

  3. I’m glad we can pick more than one! Otherwise it would be a tough call between Alonso and Webber, for me.

Alonso has just come back from two difficult years in a poor Renault, getting it regularly into places it had no right to be, and firmly established himself at Ferrari. He’s made a few mistakes this year but has been very quick most of the time; he has made the most of Ferrari’s recent development pace to win three races from the last four, deservedly putting himself at the top of the championship.

Webber, on the other hand, has had a good year in a team that hasn’t always been totally on his side (e.g. the debacle after Turkey). He’s outdriven Vettel for a large part of the year and usually has had a cooler head too (Korea excepted). I think he would be an excellent world champion and a great ambassador for the sport, though I don’t agree with those who say this is his only chance for the title; if Red Bull build a good car in 2011 there’s no reason why he can’t challenge for it then as well.

Overall, though, I’ll be happy as long as a McLaren driver doesn’t win it.

    1. Why? Just asking.

      1. Not a McLaren fan, never have been.

        1. i don’t think you’ll need to worry about that. they’re both going to need a lot of luck.

        2. Could tell by the name :-p

    2. I don’t like McLaren and not a fan of Alonso either, so my vote goes for Webber or Vettel. Alonso doesn’t deserve being a 3WDC nor Ham a 2WDC. But from the two I will pick Alonso, not fair Hamilton started his career in a McLaren, never gonna be a fan of a driver that didn’t enter the F1 in one of the lower tier teams. I know I’m crazy but it’s what I believe to be fair for all the drivers, all of them were champions on other categories and a lot of them won more things that Ham before they came into F1.

      1. Look at all the hard work he and his dad have done before he gets there!!!

      2. Are you really going to complain like that because he started out in Mclaren?

        Some examples

Multiple karting championsips/youngest cadet champ ever at 10 years old
        formula renault champ
formula 3 champion, I think two time champ
        won gp2 his first year
in the end a formula 1 champion.

He’s been racing since 2001 and has quite alot of experience in open wheel racing, what does it matter that he started out in mclaren? He signed to their young drivers program in 1998 youngest ever to be contracted by a formula 1 team. He tested for Mclaren finally in september 2006 and had a ride by 2007 after his gp2 cchampionship. Its not mandatory for anybody to start out in a lower team, so stop crying because you think its “not fair”

he earned it fair and square.

      3. Hamilton had a silverfern spoon in his mouth :)

He’s a damned good driver. Hulk is similar. Won everything on his way up, in the right team. Went in to Williams, 2nd tier team. Not an identical story, but still.

      4. Just check the 2006 gp2 turkish race. I’ll understand why LH starts his f1 story on top team.

    3. difficult years in a poor Renault, getting it regularly into places it had no right to be

      Like winning in Singapore ’08…

  4. Gone for Hamilton, but I think that it’s unlikely he will win. I would rather anyone but Alonso wins, hopefully it will be Webber out of the Red Bulls who comes out on top.

    1. I would rather anyone but Hamilton wins, hopefully it will be Webber out of the Red Bulls who comes out on top.

  5. I’m hoping Hamilton if not him, Webber.

    1. Pretty much yeah, Hamilton has probably done the most to outdrive his car out of the contenders, his four DNF’s and position above Button acount for that. Damn unlucky too, although he shot himself in the foot in Monza.

Just think, he was ahead of Webber at Monza, an would have two thirds and a second under his belt at this time.

Its turning out to be “who’s your favourite driver” type of poll. It would have been better to ask ” Who do you think is going to win”. That would really be an interesting one, with ALO leading but WEB in a better car.

      2. I’d say Alonso has been able to squeeze the most out of his car. The only real way to tell is to look at their results against their team mates. Alonso has quite simply been quicker than Lewis was to Button.

  6. I have been a big fan of alonso since his renault days and would like to see him win his 3rd and be in the company of legends. But if not him then 2nd choice is webber, but i’ll be very sad if alonso doesnt win.

  7. I know it’s early, but a majority for Webber and Alonso! And some will still say this forum is pro Hamilton and Button because it is sooo English.

    1. .. or maybe, It is far too Australian! Ha!

  8. Re Vettel:

Without the mechanical failures that struck while he was leading in Bahrain, Melbourne and Korea (by no means an exhaustive list) he’d be 63 points better

Still not convinced that wringing the RBs neck isn’t responsible for both its speed and unreliability in SVs hands.

    1. I don’t see it with the engine failures, he wrings it’s neck in qualifying of course but no one drives 110% while controlling the race, like he’s been three times.

      1. Sorry, but it is impossible for anyone to drive more than 100%.

  9. Alonso. Best driver in the second half of the season. And of course, he is a Ferrari driver!!

    1. Agree. Love or hate him, he adds a lot of value to the sport, and after his disastrous 2007 season, I as hoping for his to take his third crown with Ferrari. And looks like it could happen this season.

  10. Alonso
    Vettel
    Hamilton
    Webber
    Button

At the beginning of the season, this list looked different for me…..

  11. Alonso for me. If not him then Vettel or Button.

    1. Button??? are you serious?

      1. The poll reads “Who do you

        want

to win the 2010 driver’s title?”, so of course he’s allowed to say Button.

        1. The poll reads “Who do you want to win the 2010 driver’s title?”, so of course he’s allowed to say Button.

          1. Am I allowed to say that I want Robert Kubica to win? Because I really do.

            Well, next year maybe…

          2. @Spa- You’re not allowed to vote Kubica, since there’s no option to do so. You have lost.

  12. I voted for Alonso and Webber.

As an Alonso fan I’d obviously like him to win it, but there will undoubtedly be backlash as a result of Hockenheim which may sadly overshadow a number of brilliant drives. The others should be worried for the future – it’s not been his best season by any means yet he’s looking strongest for the championship.

Failing an Alonso win I doubt anybody would begrudge Mark for taking the title. It’d be a great story and he’d be a brilliant ambassador for the sport. He’s had to graft to get to this position, which is something I think most are able to relate to.

Hamilton has driven well for most of the season but those two errors in Italy and Singapore were very costly, especially when they came at a point in the season where it was critical for McLaren to do well.

Vettel has at times looked unbeatable, but quite a few silly errors have cost him just as bad as his unreliability. If he wins it he’ll deserve (as will anyone) but I’d rather Webber won it as Vettel will surely have more chances whereas as this is probably Mark’s only shot, and Mark has in my opinion pieced together a better season so far.

Button’s done better than I think anyone expected, but he’s ultimately been let down by his poor qualifying showings which has led to him being often beaten by Hamilton despite comparable race pace. Title is a long shot and will require a lot of luck.

    1. I didnt see any error on his part in singapore.

      1. Hair-splitting. Most neutral parties agree it was a racing incident, i.e. Hamilton wasn’t blameless.

        1. It’s not exactly the same, but Senna on Prost was a kind of similar accident. Where Senna had his nose in, and refused to give it up and Prost closed the door. Similar in Principle.

          1. Only difference is, if Senna had have braked harder, they would have avoided contact, whereas Webber was already on the brakes as hard as he could, so it was unavoidable.

          2. I don’t subscribe to that. I think he could have avoided it, and so could Hamilton. Webber kept his nose in as he had a right to do, Hamilton closed the door too tight.

Anyways. Subjective and rather irrelevant on this thread :)

        2. Webber was held up by the lap car a virgin I believe and he lost his momentum… he never really got it back and still had a go at Hamilton, Lewis couldnt see him because he was in a blindspot, he was quite far over to the let and only pulled it back with about 100 metres to go. Mark didnt hit an apex, he had a poor entry to the corner and he went over the kerb. His onboard looks like he hit Hamilton if anything he was sloppy there and I wish it was him getting damaged. But thats racing : D

          1. Hamilton never completed the pass and I am sure Hamilton knew where Webber was.

          2. But give Hamilton credit for attempting the pass, and making for some exiciting racing.

      2. Soumya Banerjee
        4th November 2010, 6:17

Why are people saying Hamilton erred in Singapore? But they seem to have forgotten him running off-track in Korea at the 2nd restart and losing the place to Alonso. People seem to have forgotten that, but remembered Singapore, where it wasnt really Ham’s fault.

        1. His tyres had gone in Korea, and it was after the restart, they were cold on top of all that. He was driving a tank on marbles. He would have lost the place at any rate. So his mistake was pretty much inconsequential.

        2. LH could have gone a bit wider in the pass. Going in, he forced MW to brake. Which he didn’t. I’d split if 50%. Racing incident, but no blameless party there.

  13. Alonso and Webber. poor Button. He should get least vote because he’s almost out of battle even though this is the vote for wish.

  14. I’ve opted for Webber, as it would be nice to see a different champion. I think it’s fair to say that Vettel has many more chances at the title than Webber, who probably has just one more year to give it a realistic shot. Plus I think over the cause of the season he has come across as the more calm and honest of the contenders.

  15. Alonso. Something very strange has happened to me this alst year and I’ve actually became a pretty big Alonso fan. This hasn’t been his best year at all as he’s made quite a few uncharacteristic mistakes but he never gave in, showed true fire in the belly at time and to see him win in a Ferrari after two terrible years at Renault and an unhappy year at Mclaren would be quite a feel good story for me. Ok so there was Hockheinem but I hold Ferrari more accountable for that not Fernando and it’s done now but hopefully he’ll win by more than the points he was given then.

If not Fernando then I have to say Webber. I know Seb’s had a hard time of it with his reliability issues and he’s got a lot of stick but Webber’s had bad luck issues all his life. He’s in a team that’s seen as Seb’s, is a straight talking guy, he wasn’t expected to push Seb so much this year and Mark seems thoroughly nice. He’s had such a rubbish time for years now that if he wins this year I won’t begrudge him the title as finally something will have gone right for him :P

    1. Oh also sorry for the double post but another thing why I chose Fernando is he’ll be a triple world champion and with two different teams. I have no diea why -maybe something to do with Senna- but I’ve always thought that 3 world titles is something really, really special plus he’d be the youngest ever triple world champion I think?

    2. I’ve actually became a pretty big Alonso fan

Welcome to the dark side :P

really special plus he’d be the youngest ever triple world champion I think?

That’s right, unless I’m very much mistaken Schumacher currently holds that record.

      1. I think Senna is currently the youngest triple champion – would be nice to see Alonso beat that!

        1. There’s not much in it. Schumacher won his third title on October 8, 2000, at the age of 31 years and 279 days; Senna won his third title on October 20, 1991, at the age of 31 years and 213 days. So Senna edges it!

If Alonso wins his third title in Brazil he will be 29 years and 101 days old; if he wins it in Abu Dhabi he will be 29 years and 108 days old. If he doesn’t do it this year, winning a third title at any point in the next two years would probably still give Alonso the record.

      2. I want Vettel to win and if not Hamilton but to be honest I think Alonso deserves it the most along with Vettel.

The fact he’s challenging Webber (who’s had easily the fastest car and no problems) is crazy.

    3. I was going to type out the reasons for my selection but then I thought I’d just tack on to Steph’s comment and say that I feel the same – 100%
      With the exception of

I’ve actually became a pretty big Alonso fan

I’ve always been a big Alonso fan!
(don’t scream it too loud someone might hear you)

      1. Steph and Cacarella-I’m in full agreement with your positions regarding Mr. Alonso. I would add that as a staunch Ferrari supporter I not only hope the Spaniard takes the drivers title which he would richly deserve, but 1-2 finishes at the remaining races for the Maranello outfit would be,for myself, the perfect way to close the season. They only really needed to be concerned about Red Bull and car reliability this year, so they’re on course.

        1. Webber or Vettel. Certainly not Alonso.

But whomever it is, I think that it will be won ‘for’ them and not ‘by’ them. It will invariably be ‘out of their hands’.

    4. he’s made quite a few uncharacteristic mistakes

I am not being funny but I genuinely do not see what’s uncharacteristic about the mistakes he has made this year. Since Canada 07 (does anyone remember that one ?), I really can’t think of any top drivers who has made more schoolboy errors than Alonso. Don’t get me wrong, I am pretty sure he will be champion this year but he has only started driving like he used to pre-07 a few GPs ago IMO. I genuinely think that he has made more mistakes in 3 years than Prost in his entire F1 career for instance. He seems to have eventually recovered from the Hamilton rivalry though, at last.

    5. I wish people would stop cheering for Mark because he’s had some bad luck. In a way it’s like 2009 all over again when people jumped on Buttons bandwagon because he was having success after his years at honda. Now everyone is bringig up Marks career, i’d rather hear about hard work paying off not how he deserves it because he was never in a good car, bad luck, bad right foot, unreliable chassis, whatever… Alonso or Hamilton for the championship.

      1. Exactly. The difference between the Schumachers/Hamiltons/Alonsos/A. Sennas of this world and the Buttons/Webbers is that when the former type get a bad car, they drive the wheels off it, work and develop it into a race winner. The latter just struggle until they stumble into the fastest car on the grid.

        1. Red Bull were hardly world-beaters when Webber joined, and I seem to remember Webber having some pretty handy performances in qualifying in what was a dog of a Williams.

          1. He did put in a few performaces in the Williams/Jaguar, but they don’t compare to the progress of the Hamilton in the Mclaren in 2009, Schumacher in 1996 and 2005, Senna in the Lotus, or Alonso’s 2008 and 2009 performances.

Red Bull became a front team last year because like Brawn, the team was fortunate enough to adapt well to the rule changes. Not the steady, logical progress in the other cases, but a sudden jump thanks to those sweeping changes. That’s how Webber stumbled into the fastest car.

          2. But don’t get me wrong, Red Bull Racing as a team have done a far better job of remaining a top team this year than Mercedes. It’s just that I wouldn’t put that much of it on Webber.

        2. Absolutely YES!
          Alonso gets my vote

  16. Wait a sec…what sort of poll do you get to pick more then one out of five? More odds setting?

    1. You might want more than one of them to win.

      1. I chose everyone except Vettel. He’s wasted more gifts than a silver spooned millionaire in Las Vegas.

  17. I would prefer that the best driver wins the title. And the best driver is still Alonso. Realistically, it is between Alonso and Webber (barring DNFs), so it would be massively disappointing for someone of Webber’s “caliber” to win the title. To keep things fair, I fully expected Vettel to walk all over Webber this year, which did not happen. But that was because of Vettel’s own faults and DNFs, not because of Webber’s skill. Vettel should be a champion one day, when he perfects his race-management skills and has a reliable car (as we saw w/ Kimi’s massively fast McLaren a few years ago, speed is only half the story).

    1. have you seen the gaps in qualifying between them! if they could award 2 pole positions, they would. and webber’s always been on the same race pace as vettel. to say he’s any less of a driver is naive. and webber’s certainly shown he can overtake this year on several occasions, particularly under incredible pressure when it counts, ie. singapore and canada.

  18. Eight changes in WDC lead so far. Is that a record? Based on this alone, it’s hard to say who deserves it, if that is our brief. At the mid season, it was incredible how Hamilton was delivering with a sub par car. He actually has had the longest run in the lead of any contender now, a situation that now seems bizarre given the persistent weakness of the McLaren to RBR and Ferrari. Even with two DNFs and a 5th coming into Korea, he was able stay in the picture with another strong performance in a McLaren, yet again, with diabolical handling and upgrades that don’t seem to work.

If he’s even worth mentioning, if a meteor did strike the Ferrari and RBR garages, and Hamilton suddenly left F1 to join a cult or something, Button would still be unworthy. His mistake-free run to mediocrety only highlights his lack of speed now.

Alonso went from being the least deserving, with his run of dumb mistakes, to looking like a juggernaut. And look at how far back he was! Not long ago he was scrapping with Kubica and Rosberg on the table. If he wins it will be an example of supreme force of will, skill, and resolve, thought it is true that his recent rise has also been made possible by a flurry of calamity for Hamilton and RBR.

It’s hard to vote against Webber, as we generally show respect to elders, but the graph shows that both he and Vettel spent most of the year recklessly squandering the most dominant race car of recent years. They had their misfortune, but when you have a dominant car, you should be able to avoid things like smashing into each other or plowing into a backmarker. They led the WDC for less rounds that McLaren, with a car often more than a second faster than their rivals. Not impressive.

I’m going to call a tie between Hamilton and Alonso. Both have been brilliant, both have made terrible mistakes; and both have outdriven the car and competent teammates. Both have put up an amazing fight against an incredible car with quick drivers. If either were to win it should be satisfying to any fan of the sport.

  19. I’d like to see Hamilton win it, but I don’t think his car is up to it. Between Webber and Alonso, I’ll cheer for Alonso every time.

  20. I’m an Alonso fan, huge one, and would be delighted to see him crowned WC for the third time. I simply think he is the best driver all round and would be a deserving WC. Failing Alonso, I would be quite pleased also if Webber won it. Button looks quite improbable by now, but if he had a chance, he would be my second choice.

  21. Alonso for me since I’m a Ferrari fan, and it would be fair to say that Alonso’s been easily the driver of the second half of the year. I wouldn’t be able to bear Webber winning it, with his inability to be miles ahead in the fastest, 100% relaible car.

  22. Mark Webber all the way!

At the far end- Lewis the liar.

  23. Fernando has an impressive run at the moment. He´s showing us, why he is the best driver in F1. After his run since Hockenheim he would deserve the title.

  24. It’s surprising to see Vettel at the bottom of this poll. I’d love to see him win, but I’m routing for the Brits

  25. Webber. I am all for nice guys and Webber coming after Button would let me hope that Formula One is getting back some sense. Alonso can wait until next year and has already two under his belt.

  26. Vettel, Alonso doesn’t deserve the championship by cruising around in 2nd collecting race wins from others engine failures also he used team orders throughout the year. Its like 2005 all over again if he wins.

Vettel deserves it more than anyone, without the failures he’d be far away with most wins and Webber would look like the driver he showed at Korea last race. Instabul was WEBBERS fault, you don’t keep driving as if no one is passing you. He should have moved over.

    1. Alonso didn’t need to go for broke in 2005 because he built up such a massive lead early in the season and simply protected it. Once he won the title and the gloves were off at the end of the season he proved he was just as quick as Kimi and the McLaren – not that he needed to.

      1. “Instabul was WEBBERS fault, you don’t keep driving as if no one is passing you. He should have moved over.”

To play devil’s advocate, but it was Vettel who turned in on Webber as if noone was there…

        sorry couldn’t resist! :P

        1. Vettel didn’t turn in, it was part of the road going that way. Webber didn’t move because he didn’t like getting passed by Seb, then you see what happened. Marks ego couldnt take it, so he took the crash.

          1. I’m quite sure, given the speed they were driving at, and the amount of time they had to think, Neither of them thought that far ahead.

      2. just as quick? if you mean China the last race where their engine didn’t have to use 2 races so they made it overpowered, which Alonso blew up with a donut after the race so they wouldn’t be dq’ed? yea, ok. Alonso was never close to Kimi’s pace, whenever they were 1-2, Kimi made 10 secs to him.

        1. Alonso’s pace in Suzuka 05 was clearly better than Kimi’s, and everybody else’s. Only a particularly stupid decision by the race director prevented him from getting the win. He was already WDC by then, so it had less of an impact than it might have had.

    2. Instabul was WEBBERS fault, you don’t keep driving as if no one is passing you. He should have moved over.

You can’t keep driving like Barrichello either.

    3. ok, so if you’re going to rubbish webber for 2 incidents, be fair and point out vettel’s failures.

  27. Lewis, all the way. Then maybe Sebastien, Mark ehhh no. And Alonso? Not a chance.

  28. Who I want to win: Button
(Back-to-back British champ for different teams)

Who I think deserves to win: Webber
(Put in some great drives, and has had to seemingly battle against his team mate as well as the team itself)

Who I think will win: Alonso
(Has the momentum and the points advantage)

    1. Well said, Button winning, though unlikely, would make for a great underdog victory.

But I agree, It’s now Alonso’s to lose.

  29. Lewis. But oh man does he have his work cut out for him. Looking for Red Bull AND Ferrari to have engine issues!

  30. I like that you allowed us to vote for more than 1…before I saw that I was going to make a joke about wanting to vote for everyone BUT Alonso, but Keith, you’ve made that a possibility!

Although I cant stand Alonso’s sprotsmanship, I recognize that he is a totally outstanding driver, at least as talented as any other driver on the grid and more so than most, so I suppose I could endure him winning the WDC.

  31. Webber. Alonso’s won it twice, Hamilton once, Button once, and Vettel almost certainly gonna get another try at it. Webber’s coming to the end of his career, so this is his last chance.

    1. how can that be a reason? this is not communism. this is the best fighting to be the best.

      1. If he used that logic to make his decision, surely it follows that it is indeed a reason.

      2. If it was Communism there would be no winners :-P

  32. I’d say anyone except for lewis, but I can’t vote for that. So lets say Webber, because I think/fear that if he doesn’t win it this year he will never. And Alonso is my second choice, he certainly deserves the championship, but I do hope that he wins by more than 7 points.

    1. It is possible to vote for everyone except Lewis though!

  33. VETTEL!!! i am sick of ferrai and alonso and their childish 1 man show its been like this as long as i can remember ”alonso is faster than u please let him go past massa plz ohh please massa”,

alonso”i am faster than him sob sob” thats all hes done this season

we really need some new blood in f1 hope alonso’s car blows up and vettel wins!!

    1. “Vettel is leading the championship by 3 points so is therefore faster than you. Do you understand that we are going to remove your wing” :-P

  34. Hamilton. He is ready to close the year 2010 with a win – his luck was back starting from last Korea race. Then anyone but Alonso!

  35. Vettel deserves the title. If he didn’t have as many mechanical failures as he did he would’ve already won the title.

Webber is a close second, but i don’t like the fact that he took out vettel in istanbul and took out hamilton in singapore… not exactly a class act in my books.

    1. …. so maybe then not a close second. Actually I don’t want webber or alonso to win.

Hamilton would be great, although he doesn’t really deserve it this year.

      1. I think Webbers over agressiveness had been pushed under the carpet a bit, looking at the stats Webber has Made more contact with other drivers than anyone else in the top 5, Aus ran HAM off the track twice, Turkey tangle with VET, Valencia flips HEI, singapore tangles with HAM, Korea takes out ROS (could have been going for HAM od ALO, just an idea.. dont try murder me). Just I cant actually recall someone actually passing Webber with out contact being made. I think that he has got away with it a bit because the media is so in love with Vettel… for some reason.

  36. Webber – he’s matched his team-mate on pace for most of the year (no mean feat) whilst having a steadier head and nursing the car better. Korea aside, he hasn’t really put a foot wrong for me all year.

Plus I think for him, it could be the last chance – I can only see Vettel getting stronger next year.

His win at Monaco was also a champion’s drive.

  37. I pick webber for the win
vettel can try again next year

  38. I want Hamilton to win but realistically I think it is between Alonso and Webber and out of those two I would prefer Webber to win.

  39. For me any of the 5 contenders could win except for Freddy “Eyebrow Man” Teflonso or Sebastian “Captain Crash” Vettel.

IMHO Alonso deserves nothing except for his engine to blow up as he is a [fill in appropriate inappropriate words of choice here]. IN fact I would go as far to say that he should be sponsored by Kleenex. I hate the fact that he scrapes through scandal after scandal and comes out smelling of roses at the other side. He is a lying filthy cheat and should be expelled from the sport.

Vettel is an awesome driver and e will be world champion one day (or maybe several!), for me he just hasn’t shown enough maturity this season to be fully deserving.

Mark Webber deserves it the most and I would be really happy for him if he did clinch it. He has been the most unlucky driver ever over his career and its about time his hard work and brilliant driving paid off.

Lewis Hamilton is where my heart wants the championship to go, but it is very unlikely. Albeit being a huge fan, I still find myself asking if he deserves it? The only way he deserves it is if he clasps it in these last 2 races.

Jenson Button is one of the nicest guys in F1 (apart from Rubens Barrichello), I think he can be proud of his first year at McLaren. His championship is over but I respect that he will fight to the end, plus it would be a a massive “up yours” to Ferrari if Lewis clinches the title without Jenson’s help.

Sorry to all Alonso fans out there but I really do hate the guy. I know the feeling is returned to us Hamilton fans respectfully!

    1. Totally agree with you there Fella. Just finished watching the 2007 season review DVD and wow, could only tolerate the guy before but now can totally understand and(share in) people’s massive dislike for the Teflon man.
S’not the kind of guy you would want representing your team as there always seems to be something or other with him.

I went for Lewis too, big fan =)

    2. “I hate the fact that he scrapes through scandal after scandal and comes out smelling of roses at the other side. He is a lying filthy cheat and should be expelled from the sport.”

That could apply to your beloved Hamilton as well. Australia 09, anyone?

      1. I wouldn’t call Hamilton beloved. I don’t think many people ‘LOVE’ Hamilton. He’s talented racer, with a silver(ferned) spoon in his mouth. It’s great to watch him when he does well, and throws the car about, and succeeds with it. But he’s done a lot to cool off the feelings of many people.

      2. I think every driver has had 1 scandal at least, can you name any more?

I can name several Alonso ones if you like.

        1. Well if i were you i would stop watching now as Alonso will win and you are probably going to lose it :)

  40. My team is Ferrari, but i hate Alonso.
    Go Webber!!!

    1. Are you Felipe? Do you now that Fernando is faster than you?

      1. Where is the “like” button!!! i need to push it

  41. Early days so far but I’m loving the fact that Vettel and Button have the same level of support. I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise really but I thought Vettel would have more support than he does!

I voted for Hamilton, Webber and Button. Vettel I feel would walk into it because of a far superior car and being a pole specialist (though mechanical problems have wiped a lot of this out) whereas I just can’t support Alonso, as much as I am in awe of him. As long as I recognise his achievements I feel I’m allowed a little leeway on the matter ;)

    1. “I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise really but I thought Vettel would have more support than he does”

Just speculation on my part but I wonder if there was a poll on who do you want to win a championship Vettel would score much higher. For me at least and I’m probably alone but I’d like him to be a champion one day but certainly not this year. I think he’s had a lot of criticism anmd probably more than he deserves but his mistakes have been daft and often ended with a rival being taken out plus he’s been the subject of a few complaints from drivers saying he’s driven into them.

I feel sorry for all his reliability woes but I don’t want him to have the title this year. That said, he could get pole and win the next two while everyone else crashes out :P I’d be happy for him but out of all the drivers in contention, I don’t really feel any support for him this year but he has driven brilliantly a lot of the time.

  42. Alonso, Webber, Hamilton, in no particular order. I just plain like Hamilton’s and Alonso’s driving styles more than any other drivers on the grid and Webber, for all his bonehead moves, would be the underdog champion who beat a team mate who was favoured by the team + he’s a bit of a throwback to another time because he’s the one who least resembles a corporate automaton.

  43. I voted for the moron that claimed he’d win the WDC 48 points in arrears after Silverstone. And we (including myself) wanted to know what he was smoking. This WDC deserves its happily ever after fairy tale ending for Alonso.

  44. I’ve gone for Webber.

He’s a good driver who has worked hard to get into a top team and I think that this could be his best, and maybe only, chance to win the championship. He is one of the few people in F1 to tell it like it is and he rarely complains about anything (relative to the other drivers at least), he just goes out there and tries to do the best he can.

I think he’d make a good champion and would represent the sport very well, I’d also love to see another Australian champion and think it would be good for the series to have a non-European champion – if he wins he will be the first non-European champion since Villeneuve won in ’97 and only the fifth non-European champion since 1980. It would also be good to have another first time drivers champion as well making it 5 consecutive seasons with a different winner.

  45. Vettel. Simply the fastest driver of the year.

    1. Vettel is certainly a very good qualifier – sort of like Trulli, but with a better car.

      1. Time will show.

  46. I voted for Webber, I think Hamilton and Alonso are tied for the best driver but this is likely to be his only shot at the championship.

  47. Alonso should win .
If not him then Webby else Lewis .

Cant stand if its going to be Vettel or Button..

  48. Alonso!! he´s the best driver of this era

    1. except when he goes head to head with that rookie guy

  49. Alonso as long as he drives the ferrari but i sure apreciate Hamilton as long as he keeps racing the way he races.

  50. I was tempted to vote Button. Not because I feel he’s earned it yet (although the necessary 2 wins in the last 2 races would stake him a much stronger claim), but because for him to win it, the championship would have to have an incredibly dramatic ending! Like 2007 all over again but with Vettel and Webber throwing away the opportunity as well as Hamilton and Alonso (who have been there before)!

  51. Webber. He totally deserves after his hard career

  52. Anybody but Alonso. Man, do I dislike that guy.

I’m a big Lewis fan, but I’d be happy with anyone but the whining Spainard.

    1. I wonder if anybody could photoshop an Alonso ferrari with Kleenex sponsorship!

    2. I’m guessing the bad memories of ’07 are still lingering…

    3. You mean the way the rest of the world dislikes Hamilton and the brits?

  53. Webber truly deserves this championship, one of the last proper drivers to build a career in the sport. Especially when you think Vettel, Hamilton and others now in the sport have just gone through an f1 teams driver programme, Webber has stuck at it all these years.

  54. Webber deserves the championship

  55. Mark Webber World Champion

  56. Keith, is there something wrong with the poll? I count 122% in total at the moment.

    1. Oh and it’s 122% total because you can vote for multiple people.

  57. Out of the 5 possibles:

    1. Hamilton
    2. Webber
    3. Button
    4. Vettel
    5. Alonso

Who do I think will win? Alonso. Unfortunately.

  58. After his incident’s with Webber and Button is still choose Vettel, and because my name is also Sebastiaan!

Webber doesn’t deserve it because he was complaining about Red Bull’s trophy cabinet and wanted a no.1 status within the team. Vettel is always happy with everything Red Bull does, and that’s the right way! there are just 24 seats available in F1!

Hamilton and Button are already champions (ask Webber about Mclaren trophy cabinet=P), Alonso doesn’t deserve it at all because of Hockenheim.

  59. Button. Man that would be some climax to the season!

I would like nothing more than Alonso’s engine falling out on the grid in the last two races.

  60. Lewis for the excitement of the support and how the sport has come alive since his arrival 3 yrs ago, but thats not taking anything away from the fact that others have also contributed in making F1 what it is today. have loved the sport since James hunt won and i got my first scalectrix. Webber my second choice as he has given his all and would make a most worthy champion.

Why is sunday so far away!!

  61. If I’d known we could have picked more than one, I would have picked them all but Vettel and Hamilton.

I really don’t like Alonso but he’s been a beast in the second half. It would be hard to not be upset at him winning.

I picked Webber though simply because I think he’s had to fight hard for equal treatment and still gets results. Just needs to not crack and show the same game face as Alonso.

Button winning would just mean the next two races were awesomely unpredictable.

I don’t like Vettel at all but neglecting this, he’s just not shown champion material this season. He has the talent but just needs some work. Consistently a top qualifying monster but not carrying it over to Sunday.

I really like Hamilton but after his mistakes at Spa and Singapore, I just don’t think he can do it or showed his best stuff. Brilliant drives in the next two and some hefty luck will change my opinion though.

    1. It’s not who you think will win, it’s who you want to win. If you ‘really like Hamilton’ then you should have voted for him.

      1. I want Nigel Mansell to win…. I bathe in the memories everyday… aaah.

    2. Lewis won Spa after qualifying second and leading every single lap of the race!

  62. I voted for Alonso as a Ferrari fan and being Massa out of contention. Anyway I’d like Vettel to be WDC sooner or later but only when Ferrari will not be able to win (I hope never). Better if Vettel wins a WDC at Ferrari!

  63. Mark Webber. He is a talented driver who really worked hard to be here, and I believe that it will benefit F1 to see another World Champion next year (which would bring us to 5 WD Champions).

  64. i am a lewis fan (big full stop)and voted for him!
but fernando i have so much respect for, i said it after both singapore and korea he deserves this title, he has been quality and dare i say it over the past 4/5 races been a class apart.
it boils down to this….button and webber in my view are only on song when their car is spot on, vettel first full year in a champion car, learnt alot will be back! lewis and fernando the only thing between them is fernandos experaince he would not have made the mistakes lewis did at monza and singapore. in time both will be triple world champions – fernando alot sooner.

    1. Would Lewis make the same mistakes that Alonso made at Monaco, Silverstone and Spa?

      Well…actually…yes, I think he would.:)

      1. monaco yes i give you that but spa thats a bit unfair….rubans took him out.
the point i tried to make is alonso keeps putting his car in the points unlike lewis who could have sat behind both massa and webbar collected those points.
this is not being critical of lewis- his racing style is box office but without a car head and shoulders above the rest it may always leave him just short in a 5 way shoot out…..put him in this years red bull and it would be game over!!!!!!

  65. I hope that the guy with the most points wins the title.

But even then there will still be the: ‘He wouldn’t have won if he didn’t have the best car’ or ‘He wouldn’t have won if that Toyota hadn’t let him passed’ or ‘He wouldn’t have won if his main rivals had used team orders’ type arguments.

No doubt those arguments will continue.

    1. Must we have this Glock on the wrong tyres argument again :-).
What you are questioning is the credibilty of the FIA.
That has been in question for some time.

  66. I want Webber to win. If not him then Button. If I’d have to pick between Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel, I’d leave the room ^^

  67. You have no idea how depressed I’ll be if Alonso gets it…

    1. If Alonso does win, it’ll be one of the greatest wins in the last 20 years+

If Hamilton wins, it’ll be one of the best of all time..

If Button wins, it will be the best of all time.

If Vettel / Webber wins. It’ll be about time.

      1. Haha, very well put. Although I’m not sure if it’s Vettel’s time just yet. For Webber it’s about time, for Vettel he’s still got years.

  68. the question that Keith is asking is pretty obvious
“Who do you want to win the 2010 drivers’ title?”
maybe he should have put his question differently
because watching the answers they are more about who people dislike than who the want to win
    myself i would like alonso

    1. The question is actually pretty much the same either way.

    2. “watching the answers they are more about who people dislike than who the want to win”

And? If that’s how people decide who they want to win, that’s their prerogative.

      1. very smart fromyou robbie

  69. Not a RB fan, but would like webber to take it. Looks like he most of all deserves the title, if not Lewis would be might ultimate choice.

Button, Vettle need try next year, but highly doubt Button will get a look in throughout the rest of his career!

Alonso…he’ll win again but as Hamilton develops even further he’ll implode. Ferrari better keep him updated with new parts & quickly!

    Looking forward to 2011!

  70. Vettel.
He was often faster than Webber, but he was very, very unlucky.
If you had asked me the same thing before the start of the season, I would have said Alonso. After Hockenheim I was really disappointed as a Ferrari supporter.

  71. For me it’s clear, Alonso, if not, then Webber :-)

  72. I can understand Webber collecting votes-goodness knows he’s been exemplary a few times this year, but I still put Alonso at the top. Vettel is doubtful and as for whinger Hamilton-no chance.

    1. Yep! Lewis definitely needs etiquette lessons from Fernando “I don’t want to know/I am faster than Felipe/Just make sure Hamilton gets a penalty/Don’t talk to me for the rest of the race” Alonso.

      1. I doubt Alonso needs lessons in etiquette from Lewis “everyone’s fault but mine/I’m supposed to be faster than Jenson/portrait of integrity/everyone leave the tarmac or I’ll crash into them” Hamilton.

  73. In truth? Nigel Mansell…

.. failing that. I think Alonso deserves it, Hamilton will deserve it if he wins from here. Webber deserves but should have had it in the bag really. Vettel doesn’t deserve it, but should have owned this season.

Re Vettel. If I had a season this bad on the PS3, it would be because my mum kept bringing my cups of tea during the races, and I had to pause and get up and sit down, and the unpause, and crash in the Jenson Button.

In Summary. At this moment. Alonso deserves it. He’s made less mistakes.

  74. Alonso for the title !!!!!!!!!!

  75. Mark Webber. Love the guy.

  76. Younger Hamilton
    3rd November 2010, 23:07

Lewis as always if not then Jenson,if not then Mark and i can forget about Vettel and Alonso.I Have to say Lewis should be leading this championship quite clearly by now, talking about Luck well strangely Mark has been the Luckiest Jenson’s two wins were down to smart calls and great strategies NOT by Luck.Surely its Alonso now and i hope he does, Vettel doesnt deserve because of his immaturity and several amount of problems with the car and several mistakes by him.

  77. Younger Hamilton
    3rd November 2010, 23:10

Wow im surprised that people on this article are voting like the title of the article is ‘Who do you think is gonna win the 2010 drivers title’ To be honest Mark or Fernando shouldnt be at the top of the list because of the article is

Who do you want to win the 2010 drivers’ title?

Its your opinion and who DO YOU WANT TO WIN THE TITLE,there are 5 contenders think about it and READ and use your heads more often

    1. Maybe people WANT Alonso or Webber to win, have you actually thought about that?

    2. I think that people are voting for who they want to win. Hard to believe, but it just might not be Lewis or a McLaren.

  78. You can do it Webber!
And nice graph, shows the situation nicely

  79. José Baudaier
    4th November 2010, 0:12

Anyone but Alonso. Vettel is not my favourite either.

  80. 9% for Vettel? Haha. Not real popular are you sunshine? Maybe we should send this data to the Red Bull management and marketing department who seem obsessed with getting the younger bloke to win so they can flog their energy drink. Marketing doesn’t work if people don’t like the guy doing the selling.

Webber will win if the team support him, if not, the title is Alonso’s.

  81. hope fernando would win
alas, if webber missed this chance, wonder if he would be able to get there again..

  82. Mark Webber, but I hope that whoever have the most win wins the WC.

  83. Anyone except Alonso…. i “hate” him since Honckeheim…. Winners don´t use team orders (And REAL TIFOSI too!!) Yes, im Ferrari fan.
Pd: Witthin, it´s only a toilette flushing….please, dont deploy the safety car!!!! (Sarcastic!)

    1. you are a fake one

    2. Lol, you’re funny, you’re a Ferrari fan and say that Alonso cheats and doesn’t deserve to win. Funny. So what about the thousand previous times where Ferrari cheated on team orders with for instance Raikkonen-Massa or Schumacher-Barrichello? You just hate Alonso for race reasons.

  84. I want Alonso to win, otherwise Hamilton. I don’t think Webber’s position truely reflect his speed and calmness.

  85. Last 2 races finishing positions, Vettel, Webber, Alonso would mean Alonso winning WDC by 4 points! Till Vettel lets Webber by on the last lap, not team orders, Vettel just like Webber so much….. then Webber wins WDC by 2 points!! and Red Bull copes a $100,000 fine (that is the going rate, I believe for such behavior) and need to sell some more cans of drink.

  86. Webber or Vettel, because then it means we will have five World Champions on the grid next year – Webber/Vettel, Button, Hamilton, Alonso and Schumacher.

  87. Gone for Lewis, but if it isn’t him then I’m not bothered about who wins, they will ultimately deserve it.

  88. It is very hard to bet against spanish this year..
    I go with alonso

  89. I hope Webber wins, he has worked really hard this year against his team mate (sulky vettel) and team (unfair RBR)

  90. First choice Alonso. As for second choice although Hamilton is a much better driver and deserves it far more, I rather have Webber win the WDC.

It’s funny/shameful how our feelings and guts drive our desires in a sport where the rationalistm of the coolest headed guy with the most well tought/designed/executed car is the one who wins.

    heart vs mind!

    1. Hamilton – I’m a mclaren fan
Webber – He’s a top bloke and he’s done some brillian drives this season in a difficult climate. He deserves it.
Button – First choice for most of the season but I can’t see it.
Alonso – Not a fan, I hope he doesn’t win. He is a brilliant driver through!
Vettel – Please, please not him!! He has ****** away so many points this year, and not just his points. Hes too immature and doesnt deserve this. I agree hes fast and on a one lap basis probably the best at the moment but f1 is more than that.

  91. I would like to see either RBR driver do it..it throws another championship winner on to the grid next season.

I don’t find myself patriotic in the slightest when it comes to F1..English drivers powered by a German engine..which all started off with a guy from New Zealand! Hard to get passionate from my point of view.

I like Vettel. I like Webber..I think Webber just pips it..given his treatment pre-Silverstone treatment and of course the age factor. I voted both ;)

    1. Please excuse the use of ‘treatment’ twice!

  92. I hope Alonso wins, he’s the most consistent and the best driver in terms of strategy and getting the best out of a car, if he was in a red bull, then we would have a world champion by now. As far as Lewis is concerned a great drive but not mature enough, silly mistakes!

    1. Best in terms of strategy eh? No, I’m not going there.

  93. I’m a Spaniard and consider Alonso great.

But my opinion is not based on facts, but on wishes and desires:
and I consider Webber deserves the title above the rest.

Why? Because his is the last chance to be considered the
great driver he is: against all odds, included his own team.

  94. I hope Alonso wins as well. I’ve read all the comments and theres an awful lot of rubbish written on here.
If we want to be honest every1 should recognise that Fenando has been the best and most consistent diver for the second half of the season so plainly he should deserve to win as long as he don t make any silly mistakes in the last 2 races. As for preferential treatment we all know that other than Massagate where he only gained a hanful of points, Massa has not helped him at all. So I hope Alonso wins if not I would like to see Webber win cause hes been the second best driver so far this year and cause hes such a nice person. As for “luck”–thats another rubbish argument which only bored ppl bring up. Every driver has been lucky-and unlucky and every driver has mademistakes.

  95. would like to see Webber win […]cause hes such a nice person.

Nice guys finish last, don’t they?

  96. Presently 17% of people want more than one driver to win. I have news for those people: there can’t be a tie.

    1. Presumably these people are equally happy with more than one outcome?
