   I have to say … I’m disappointed in Alonso. I might not think much of him, but at least I had respect for his abilities as a driver (even if I ignored them from time to time post-Germany). But not anymore. That was an utterly disgusting display from Alonso at the end of the race. Vitaly Petrov had every right to race for position, and if he doesn’t fold at the first sight of you, then all the more credit to him. I can understand frustration and emotion, but there is no excuse for such an abhorrent display of poor sportsmanship.

   Compare Alonso’s reaction to losing this year to Felipe Massa’s in 2008 and tell me again that Alonso is the better man.

      It will be interesting to see whether Alonso spits the dummy and blames Petrov for wrecking his championship.

      But of course, Kubica and Rosberg would’ve also done the same thing, so it’s all academic.

         In the BBC interview after the race he does seem to blame Petrov for being aggressively defending against a championship contestant; he does add that Petrov just drove really well, but it was dissapointing. He had moments like that before in 2006, and I guess 2007. Reason for me to dislike him. But his season was really good I think. This race was due to wrong strategy from the team, not so much Alonso, unless it is maybe not taking enough risk in the race.

            They fell for Red Bulls trick there. Great that Ferrari did not profit from Germany in the end.

            I agree with you on Alonso’s season, he did really drive well this year. Ferrari still have to get back to the top as far as strategy is concerned.

               Yep, makes Ferrari’s illegal antics in Germany look pretty silly. If they’d let Massa win his boosted confidence would’ve made him a bigger help to Alonso, and it’s possible Alonso actually would’ve ended up with more points as a result of the added help of his team mate. I’m so glad RBR were vindicated and Ferrari look like the greedy unsportsmanlike fools they are. Alonso is a sore loser and Petrov did fantastic to hold his position on such old tires.

               Yep, makes Ferrari’s illegal antics in Germany look pretty silly.

               What makes them look even more silly is if they hadn’t swapped them and the rest of the season went the same (which I highly doubt it would have, of course), then Alonso would still be 2nd and Massa would still be 6th in the points. So they could have avoided the controversy, made Massa look like a huge hero and the final race would have had Webber and Alonso a mere 1 point apart.

      Fernando’s gesture to Petrov was just a moment of frustration. Anyone can have that.

      You’re not much of an Alonso fan, we get that. But let’s not make mountains out of molehills here. Every single driver in F1 has complained and/or waved a hand at a driver they felt were holding them up.

      Calling it an ‘abhorrent display of poor sportsmanship’ when Alonso does it is a bit childish.

            Alonso has the reputation of being emotional and impulsive. Whats the big deal? He cooled down and then gave am interview saying that Petrov drove well all race. Alonso bashers will pick at any small thing and blow it out of proportion.

      Have to agree with you 100% Alonso never fails to show how entitled and spoilt he is. Petrov is not to blame for his lost of the championship, him and Ferrari are. . Seb won this fair and square, nobody letting him through and no one playing second fiddle.
      Well done RBR and Vettel.

   I hope Vettel buys MSC a nice steak dinner or something. If MSC wouldn’t have spun on the first lap and caused the SC, Alonso would be holding that trophy. Alonso had only the three drivers who pit behind the SC between him and the title.

   I like Vettel, but luck was certainly on his side this week. Congrats to him.

      Actualy not. Kubica didn’t pit behind the safety car, so even without the safety car Kubica would probably get in front of Alonso – and Ferrari would be even more keen to cover Webber with no Rosberg and Petrov in front.

      Yes Vettel was lucky and things just came his way this weekend, but i think it is fair to say that the luck he had here only made up for a fraction of the unlucky mechanical failures he have had in the first part of the season. I thought he was the unluckiest guy in F1, but it just came to him when he needed it the most.

   In a year when they have all made mistakes all credit must go to Vettel. He should have claimed it earlier.
   As a Ferrari fan I have to say that a bit of visual towards another driver is not really much after what some drivers have said about others when they were out of the car and had time to cool off. Are we all waiting to be offended again?

      I agree, actually i can understand and are happy for Alonso showing his emotions there.

      Imagine seeing him just telling us “yes, it was a shame I could not get past, well better next year”
      That would have been far more of a let down. Sure, I hope he goes to Petrov later to say he did a nice job there and apologize, but when I think about having it in his grasp for the last couple of races and then lose it by falling into the trap of a bad strategy and sitting behind Petrov for 40 laps, you can forgive him for feeling angry at the moment.

   Firstly. Stop being so juvenile. Hard. I know.

   F1 isn’t all about being a nice guy and sportsmanship. It’s about winning. Case in point – ayrton senna. Alsono is still the best driver on the grid. Amazingly this is not distilled into one performance.

   Comparing massa with Alonso here just displays your I understanding of this fine sport.

   Were the Ferraris just slow down the straights today? Massa never even got past Alguersuari, which is pathetic.

   I hope they stop wetting themselves about the hotel, lights, record number of people you can fit on a grid etc at Abu Dhabi – and sort the track out before next year’s race. Cut out that stupid chicane (which caused all the trouble today) and maybe tighten the corner after the long straight.

   I’m so glad the final race is back in Brazil next year.

   I’m not a Vettel Fan, but he drove a nice race and he showed his ability to focus and win races and not only ability in individual driving to score poles. Hats off to Vettel (i only hope he will gain some maturity on personal character with the world champion win)
   As for alonse,, well he started with being very careful, i understand that as he is the “most to lose” if things went bad and we gave his position to button very easy by the first corner, sure Ferrari were calculating their strategy based on Webber and not Vettel, but that gun just slipped away with it.
   I never likes Alonse but always admitted his driving abilities and use to consider him one of the best on the grid but not anymore,, not being able to pass patrov for more than 30 laps does not show a good driver abilities, i understand he wanted to be the careful driver but for the last 10 laps didn’t he realize the he is losing the championship,,
   The best thing, Alonso is NOT the world Champion,, no matter who won it this year it does not matter to me but i would have been very sad if he did,,

      Alonso is the best driver on the grid, and can also be agressive on the track. But 2da was not meant to be him being 3 times champ. As 4 petrov i hope he is not in f1 nexy year.

   Pleased Alonso didn’t win not because of Germany but because he was happy to win the championship by getting podiums. I’d rather have a champion who tried too hard i.e Vettel into Webber and Button, Webber into Hamilton, Kovi and Hamilton and Hamilton into Massa.

      He knew that he didn’t have the pace to beat the Red Bulls to pole and the win. For him consistently finishing 3rd would have sealed the deal. I cant see him making that statement if had the fastest car.. he was just being realistic and keeping everyones hopes in check.

    I think it’s because Fernando Alonso pit too early that’s why his losing the pace in the race. I blame Ferrari’s race director if his the one who gives the command for Alonso to pit. If only Alonso pits together with Vettel I think his still got the chance to be in a podium, considering Vettel is really fast.

    Yes yr right red, it was Ferrari error which lost Alonso the championship. Its should be the drivers choice on when to pit i would like teams to think tht 4 nxy year.

    Alonso showed his true colours today – a bad sportsman with the behavior of a spoilt child at the end. We’ve seen this time and again over the years which is why he’s so unlikeable – smashing up his own motorhome after Hamilton beat him in his rookie season at McLaren for example.
    It’s nothing to do with Petrov or Renault – he was just a better driver than Alonso on the day.
    Well done to Vettel – a deserved championship winner.

    Maybe the team made a mistake but Alonso could fix that on the track but he didn’t even try to pass Petrov. Just sitting behind him IF i was in his position and i knew the team made a little error i would try to past him even if it means i would be out. 7th or DNF is the same result nothing!

       Yeah, I expected to see him dive under Petrov with all four tires smoking at least once. Look at Kobayashi, he tried that a couple times on Barichello and someone else, it didn’t work, but Koba is going for it. Same for Hamilton though. I think maybe he has too much respect for his friend Kubica to lay a wheel on him, but Alonso should have dealt with Petrov one way or another.

    Vettle and RBR got lucky….

    When the clerk of the course decides it is safe to call in the safety car the message “SAFETY CAR IN THIS LAP” will be displayed on the timing monitors and the car’s orange lights will be extinguished This will be the signal to the teams and drivers that it will be entering the pit lane at the end of that lap.
    At this point the first car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and, if necessary, fall more than ten car lengths behind it.

    As he was messing about near the Hotel….
    In order to avoid the likelihood of accidents before the safety car returns to the pits, from the point at which the lights on the car are turned out drivers must proceed at a pace which involves no erratic acceleration or braking nor any other manoeuvre which is likely to endanger other drivers or impede the restart.
    As the safety car is approaching the pit entry the yellow flags and SC boards will be withdrawn and, other than on the last lap of the race, replaced by waved green flags with green lights at the Line. These will be displayed until the last car crosses the Line.

    Directly after the crash I thought Schumacher was killed. It really scared me, that accident. Not much overtaking during the race. Suprising to see Vettel win championship. We will see if he can be the phenomenon Schumacher was in a few years. But that also would be suprising to have two so close after each other, while Hamilton, Alonso and maybe even Schumacher will be battling him next year. It was a very good year!
