The F1 cars were back in action at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi today with the first of two days of testing for young drivers.
Among the unfamiliar names at the wheel were Russia’s Mikhail Aleshin at Renault, Antonio Felix da Costa of Portugal at Force India and Mexican Esteban Gutierrez at Sauber.
Here’s a collection of pictures from today’s test.

what this testing tells everyone about f1 is that success is not dependent on the driver as much as it is on the car. i have heard time and time again about how great certain drivers are(senna, prost, mansell, schumacher, alonso and now vettel) and who would be winning if…..bottom line, if you put anyone in a rb6, they would be winning races. do we all really believe that mark webber is better than lewis hamilton? do we really believe that jenson button is that good or is it just that the brawn gp car was? was schumacher great, or was the ferrari f200x just a great series of cars?
Agreed Button’s title was a fluke and almost lost it all at the end. In F1 the car is kinda important though. Good drivers develop good cars and make them better. Schumacher made the f200x series a world beater. Alonso developed a Renault that won him 2 titles. Plop Hamilton in a RB6 , and sure he’ll win.
great, glad you agree. I have been a big fan of the sport for a long time, but I have seen in the last several seasons that the car, developed by good drivers, can make even the average or also ran driver look really good. what always amazes me more, is when someone takes a car like a toro rosso and win with it.
I was a little disappointed when I heard Hulkenberg was leaving Williams, but I hope Ricciardo is his replacement. Then, when Webber retires, he can go to Red Bull! I like him already.

It would be great to see Jules given Massa’s car in a couple of years and give Alonso a run for his money, 07 style.

Bianchi is the most overrated GP2 driver…
Whitty 123
16th November 2010, 17:23
Totally agree Jane. Not seen him do anything that made me think, he’d be a good driver. Then again neither did Kobayashi…

Err he’s a ridiculous 21, he’s already got the Formula Three Euroseries, the French Formula Renault 2.0 and has come third in his first year of GP2.
Hows that for underacheivement.

Bianchi has changed helmet design. I prefer it now.

Last year he wasn’t using a helmet with Ferrari sponsors, but plain, and this year he’s using a Schuberth with complete sponsors.

I really like Gutierrez’ helmet. Bianchi’s not so much, it reminds me of the San Francisco ’49ers.
