Renault set to revive driver scheme (Autosport)

“[Eric] Boullier wants to revive the junior driver programme, which previously supported the likes of Robert Kubica, Heikki Kovalainen, Lucas di Grassi and Romain Grosjean, and could include tests of an older-spec Renault F1 car.”

Schumacher will leave with tail between his legs – Stewart (ESPN)

“I think he has unless he is able to come back next year and win the world championship in a resounding fashion. But I rather think it will be difficult for him to do that, not just because Vettel’s there, Webber’s there, Alonso’s there but also because Rosberg is there never mind Hamilton or Button”

Hieatt takes the helm at Double R Racing (British F3)

“Following the conclusion of negotiations between co-owners Steve and David Robertson and former F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, Hieatt will head the team from its established Woking base.”

Comment of the day

Icthyes’s view on changing the points system is nothing if not trenchant:

Repeat after me:

Changing the points system does not make the racing closer, it makes the standings closer

Imagine the 2010 season decided purely on number of wins. Yeah, I thought so. Racing the same, but no five-way fight with two to go.

Improved points system? Improved sticking plaster more like.

Happy birthday!

A very happy birthday to Goldenboy!

On this day in F1

Giancarlo Baghetti died on this day 15 years ago. The Italian succumbed to cancer at the age of 60.

During his racing career he became the only driver to win his first ever world championship Grand Prix, triumphing for Ferrari at Reims in 1961.

The rest of his Formula 1 career failed to live up to that remarkable start – indeed, he only scored points in two further races.

  1. Renault is a WC winning team & they should some one in the pipe line waiting if they needs to replace someone in the future.I think many teams over the years have taken this ” young drivers program” very seriously,as the spending on F1 by each team decreased so why not spend on some talent.

I always loved to hear from Stewart as why this guy talks he makes sense.I agree with him that Schumacher retired way too soon he could have continued until 2008.But as everyone know Schumi will love to win his 8th WC.Next year there will be more spotlight on him then 2010.

Now check this twitter by Button.
Freaky! not me.. RT @anatomica: @The_Real_JB in a spanish documentary film about Camaron de la Isla: http://twitpic.com/3agmlt. Bizarre…

  2. Changing the points system does not make the racing closer, it makes the standings closer +1.
Most efforts by the FIA to make the actual racing closer have failed in recent years, this seems like an attempt to cover that up.

  3. So, Keith, got your CV and 5 minute tape ready ? I think you’d do a credible job on Beeb5.

  4. Race of Champions starts this evening. But no free stream on their webpage this year :(

    1. Which F1 drivers are going to be there?

      1. Prost, Schumacher, Vettel and Heikki

I’m amazed Heikki is in this because he “Won a race”.

I just want to see Plato kick Vettel’s ass.

        1. Well they both like to overtake by ramming the opposition off the road, pity they’re not on the same piece of track really.

        2. Did you not see kovy the year he destroyed schumi? Kovy is an awesome driver, its just hammy is much better and made him look average. In any team apart from there he would be no1

          1. He was pretty equal with Trulli this year, Trulli’s car broke about twice as often.

    2. Why wouldn’t they show it on their website? Surely they aren’t as elitist as F1 now are they?

  5. Enjoy the birthday Goldenboy.

  6. Cheers Keith! I had to look up the word “trenchant” though! :)
