Ferrari have revealed the name for their 2011 F1 car.

The F150 will be launched in Maranello this Friday (January 28th).

The name marks the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said:

Ferrari is an expression of Italian excellence, talent and creativity. All the men and women who put so much effort and passion into their work at Maranello share the pride and responsibility of representing our country around the world and it is in this spirit that we chose to dedicate this car to an event that is so important for the whole of Italy.
Luca di Montezemolo

In the past Ferrari’s car designations have tended to refer to the year in which they were raced (e.g. F2008) or their engine configuration (e.g. 248 F1, for 2.4-litre V8). The team said the Italian flag will feature prominently on this year’s car.

    1. yeehaaawwww!!!!

      oh, wrong f150

        1. That has the aerodynamic properties of a brick, classic American styling, I love it US_Peter.

My particular favourite, or favorite to you Peter is the beast known as the Plymouth Barracuda V10, it doesn’t so much cut through the air like most cars… it punches through it.

          and listen to the sound
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVWcvt6tPJQ

It sounds like Gmork the Wolf from Never Ending Story!

        2. Who says Ferrari don’t push the boat out design-wise and go for the unexpected and bold option?

        3. I think they want to participate in NASCAR Truck Series. and I recommend Nelson Piquet Jr. as their driver lol

      1. F-150! Ferrari!!

      2. lets call it the “Italian Lighting”

        1. A Ferrari truck and now a station wagon, ermmm shooting-brake:

          http://automotive.speedtv.com/article/autos-ferrari-shows-new-4-seater

I wonder how it would look with some nice wood on the sides and back?

    2. Seems everyone is now pushing out the messages to get as much attention to their early launch event as possible. What’s in a name?

Or will Ferrari get an F50 follow up on the road soon under this name?

      1. Wasn’t the Enzo supposed to be the F50 follow-up?

        1. Yes, that’s why if you Google “F60” you find some pictures of the Enzo Ferrari, because after the F40 and F50 the Enzo was thought to be called F60.

    3. Great cant wait to see what its like.

      1. Hope there is some Italy in it but hope there won’t be a green front wing!

        1. I’m hoping for the Italian flag on the engine cover where the Malboro barcode was last year…

    4. Very unexpected name!
The launch will be on Ferrari.com and on Rai 2. I can’t find it on the Rai 2 schedule though. Anybody has any idea what time its going to be?

      1. The same time as the launch. :D
I will be at school at that time Ithink, it must be presented around 11/12a.m.

      2. 09:45 on Rai Sport 1. I’ll see it only at 14:30 when I come back from school :(

        1. great! i can watch it live :D

    5. Will it come with a gun rack? Or perhaps it will have the Renault R29 nose?

      1. NO, but it will come with a big speaker on the front to politely tell people to move out of the way when lapping much faster

        1. At least if Alonso’s driving up towards Massa.

    6. F2008, F60, F10. Of course F150 was the logical next step.

      1. haha. yeah I’m not seeing any sequence there at all, not even a cubic, quadratic or whojammyflippyatic sequence.

      2. I’ve put the 4 numbers in excel and it says the next car should be F-849.

        1. With a minus that is.

      3. Yeah, I’ve never understood Ferrari’s numbering system. I know the F2008 was named for the year, as was the F(20)10. The F60 was given that designation to celebrate 60 years for Formula 1 – but I can’t for the life of me explain the F150 badge.

        1. Hopefully its for a 15 and 0 record in 2011
they can have a few winds at the end.

        2. but I can’t for the life of me explain the F150 badge.

The name marks the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy.

          Reading is your friend!

        3. LDM is a politician. Easy.

        4. You better start shopping around for a pair af glasses you might need binoculars as well but if you want my advise better buy a telescope

      4. I think it’s good they stray from using a sequential system. And in this instance, if you’ve read what it’s dedicated to in the article, I think it’s a pretty decent name.

      5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_between_Italy_and_Turkey,_1932 Maybe the F80 next year (at least for the Turkish GP)

    7. Oh cool! I know a lot of people love the Ferrari red, but I find it insanely boring. So I’m excited to see how they incorporate the flag.

      1. i doubt it will change that much, Ferrari red is so iconic, but i agree, hope it gets a shake up but it will still be predominantly red, hopefully there will be less random white bits

        1. Yeah, I figure it’ll be minimal at best. But even looking at the recent video posted in the roundup ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvd-RzR-PUo ) you can see some touches of the Italian flag on the airbox of the Ferraris. I imagine it will be similar.

        2. I doubt it will change much but possibly red wings and a white airbox like on the 312T.

Maybe they will do an Abarth Style stripe. I could see that looking pretty good without being over the top.

Or possibly put the flag on the engine cover and have the red stripe blend into the car so it swoops up the cover at the back, that would look the mutts.

    8. Cant stop thinking of the Ford F150 when I read it.

      1. LOL was the FIRST thing I thought when I saw the tweets on it (so of course had to reply on the tweets saying I hope it will run better then the Ford F150, maybe they going for the Harley version for better marketing value? Will it have the fish boat engine sound like a Harley?)

      2. I’m awaiting the photoshop mashup of the two…

      3. EXACTLY! There’s going to be some kind of hell to pay if that car proves to be slow…

    9. Enzo Ferrari might roll over in his grave over this one…To call the new car the F150 sounds so Ford like that if the old man was alive today the new car would surely have another name….

      1. Particularly bearing in mind the rivalry between the two…

    10. I hope the F150 features the towing package so Felipe can haul Alonso around with relative ease.

      1. Lol, COTD!

      2. More likely a bumperdumper for Fernando.

        Google it.

    11. A very nice reason for the choice of name and I hope the incorporation of the flag will be more than just sticking it on, but actually form part of the livery (kinda like the one that popped up in the livery thread on the forum).

    12. May I add that I also own an “F150”?

    13. This could be the prettiest Ferrari in years. Finally a team using something other than sponsor logos to determine how their car will look.

      1. You should check out the 2009 season sometime, you might be pleasantly surprised.

    14. From the countdown on Ferrari.com i work it out as 9am uk time for the unveil..

      1. From what I read on Rai.it it should be at 8:45, but probably they will have some presentations of the drivers before.

    15. Lotus said that they will revealed their car on 5 am on 31st January, any time given when Ferarri will launch their car on 28th.

    16. My F150 is Blue, not Scarlett, and would also box out Fernando ahead of the Safety Car

    17. Ok so they’ve just lost the constructors championship by not naming it in the “normal” way, which hasn’t been used since 2008 (when they last won).

But I understand their reasoning of 150 and hopefully they will have a big italian flag or ferrari logo in the blank spaces (or even santander).

      1. Would have been better off calling it the F11-I (Italy) like for 2003-GA (Gianni Agnelli)

      2. They didn’t win the WCC with the F2005 either.

        1. But that was more down to rule changes which disadvantaged Bridgestone teams.

    18. My personal favourite method of Ferrari nomenclature is the one that refers to the individual displacement of each cylinder. Sadly the last time that was used was on the Ferrari 456.

      1. Im glad you brought that up. I was just going to make the same remark! It would be so cool if they brought that back. Instead of Ferrari’s new road car being called the Ferrari Four (or “FF”), it could be called the 521FF, which I think is much cooler. On the other hand, that would mean that this generation of V8 F1 cars would be called “300F1” or something like that, with some deliniation between the years. So this year’s car could be the “300F1-06” (its the sixth car with this engine config), which I think would be pretty cool too :)

    19. Should be a great outing for them at Monza then. Good job i’m going! ;)

It’s nice to see a team as patriotic as Ferrari.

    20. I wonder if Ferrari will promote their FF car on the F150?

    21. Incorporating nationalistic or even non-political causes, such as environmentalism, into the outward presentation of the car has the potential for creating an…….awkward dynamic….does anyone remember the Honda “earth dreams” car?

If any non-racing enterprise is closely associated with the car, most often through commercial signage, the public tends to link them together, often in a “mutual bond of merit”.

Thus a problem can result when the performance of the car is something other than stellar.

It was ashamed, if a bit ironic, to see all “our” environmental hopes for the future running around at the back of the field…..as a failure.

Obviously, this will not be the fate of the new Ferrari, none the less it has the potential for an uncomfortable and unnecessary bit of melodrama.

    22. Cmon Massa make the team proud by winning something ….give your team mate some competition please…………….one thing i love about ferrari they have the balls to go first ………..that shows they mean buisnes……

    23. I doubt it theRoswellite. That’s just looking too far into it. Besides, the unification is hardly a recent event.

    24. design problem: gun rack?

    25. Really interesting article post. Your article is really interesting. I liked this article. This blog post is outstanding! I have to say that after continually reading poor as in, same old material, little quality content, etc. article posts on other sites, it’s enjoyable to actually read something that has some thought put into it. It’s a pleasure to read good article posts, especially after continually seeing rehashed %$!# that writers and bloggers are throwing out nowadays. It’s always nice when I come across content that actually has value, I’ve been seeing a ton of subpar writing attempts recently. Anyways, thanks again and I’ll check back regularly to see what else you have to offer. I’ll check back in the future to see what else you have up your sleeve. Keep up the terrific work! BTW, I like your site design, but your header image was only loading half way for me. P.S. Your header is messed up a bit in IE. The problem could be on my end but I thought you might want to look into that.
