  1. at 1am on Sunday 27th March Britain moves from Greenwich Mean Time to British Summer Time, meaning the clocks go forward one hour

surely at 12am the clocks will skip forward to 1am. not at 1am the clocks will skip to 2am???

    1. No its right the clocks go forward at 1am to 2am.

    2. “(BBC Red Button and online)”

By “Online” do you mean there is a service which streams it, such as a BBC service? Or do you mean those low quality online streams that keep getting shut down?

I’d be willing to pay money to watch a SD quality race on the net.

      1. They sometimes live stream things on iplayer, no idea if they’re going to do it for F1 though.

        1. They certainly had most free practices live online last year.

Although they also seemed to only then upload FP1&2 to iplayer..?

          1. if you go to bbc.co.uk/f1 just before the session starts, there will be a link to watch live (all sessions and the forum) .it is in SD quality but probably only available for UK viewers.

FP 1 & 2 qually, race and forum will also be on the Iplayer shortly after they air

        2. Yeah they do stream it to the BBC iPlayer, I normally watch the build up on the web and the race on a big TV.

      2. BBC Sport online shows the race live for free if you live in the UK

    3. No, it is correct. Like the article states, the clock will skip from 1am GMT to 2am BST.
(Here in Germany the clock will skip from 2am CET to 3am CEST.)

But please don’t ask me why. ;-)

      1. Sorry – Jim already answered the question above. Seems like I still had an old version of this page in my cache.

  2. Oh god I forget about Daylight saving. Well that helps with the sleep slightly.

    1. no it doesnt, we loose an hour, so technically we have to get up at 5 rather than 6!!!!

      1. I meant staying up for practice. Because instead I will be watching it at 12:30 rather than 1:30. FP2 will be tricky though.

        1. It only affects the Sunday running.

      2. But then that means that time doesn’t exist for anything between 1:00 and 2:00?

So does FP1 start at 2:25 GMT (or whatever, BST)? After taking the clock change into account.

I’m gonna need some timeout with this one

        1. Wait, it doesn’t happen until Sunday. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it, then.

          1. And then even then the it says 6:00 which is after the time shifts 1 hour ahead at 2.

But it does open up a raft of questions about how things would work if something was scheduled in between 1:00 and 2:00 on the 27th

          2. Oh yeah of course, god I don’t think my brain was switched on when I wrote that……….

  3. I know we arent meant to use capitals etc but:

    I CANNONT WAIT!!!!!

    1. Indeed

I’m looking forward to Sunday but if the BBC put that damn driver tracker on the Freeview red button instead of the driver view cameras i might just put the tv out the window.

      1. also you CANNOT spell

        1. Damn it! I think it was the excitement!

      2. you can always choose between main feed, driver tracker and onboard camera.

  4. if you’re concerned about the clocks not going forward automatically, set your alarm clock to the TV program time rather than the race time. That way you’ll defo see the beginning of the race!

    1. And, of course, if you use your iPhone alarm to wake you up (as I do), don’t try and outsmart it by setting it forward an hour before you go to bed, like I did once. It knows the clocks go forward, and will roll over from 1am to 2am on its own.

      1. Good luck with that – didn’t Iphones screw up last time the clocks changed – alarms set on them didn’t go off at all!

      2. HaHaHAHAA, did the same once. Next phone I had did not adjust by itself, so I missed again!

      3. Another way is to put your clock an hour forward before you go to sleep, then set the alarm for 6am.

  5. I’m just trusting my Sky+ record to catch the beginning if I make a mess of my timing.

Or rather my Sky+ HD! (I’m so excited about that it is unbelievable)

  6. so does that mean that now its 17:15 but on sunday would be 18:15

  7. Are the times listed above GMT? I.E. Qualifying starts at 5am – 7:30am GMT and not BST?

I presume my Sky+ HD box will pick on the time change on Sunday and record the start of the race for me?

    Cannot wait for this!

    1. All times are in the time measurement in use in Britain at that point (so Friday and Saturday are/were GMT and Sunday is in BST).

  8. If anybody is interested in viewing the qualifying/race (not sure about free practice) in the middle east, AbuDhabi Sports are broadcasting them live.
Like many others, I forgot about the time changes! I guess this will be beneficial only for Sunday!
    Bring it on already..

  9. so in CET race will start at 8 am, DST considered?

  10. Noby has mentioned HD!!!!

Does anyone know if bbc are showing the practices on one of their HD channels aswell as qualy and the race?

    1. They confirmed on twitter that FP1, 2 & 3 will be broadcast in SD. But the picture should be a little better than last year as they receive the feed in HD.

  11. I thought that the BBC was going to be broadcasting F1 in HD, but there doesn’t appear to be any mention of that here or on the BBC website.

    1. BBC1 HD on Freeview will be showing the race and the repeat of the race (and probably everything else that’s normally on BBC1)

  12. I’m thinking of swapping my working days to follow the practice on friday live…

    1. When I wrote that I did no take notice of the fact that they’re so early in the morning!

  13. So who is staying up for Friday practice (and going to work afterwards??)?

    1. Has to be done! Starting the season in the small hours always seems more exciting!

    2. Me! It’ll be my last day of work, not that they’ll fire me for it, it was planned a while ago!

      1. LOL. Imagine knowing you’ll get fired yet still watching, that’s true dedication!

        1. Last year my brother booked 10 days off to go to Aussie race and a week before his boss told him if he went his job wouldn’t be there when he got back. He much prefers his new workplace!

    3. only for FP1, then a presentation in the morning! :(

      1. ill watch fp2 before work. it only means getting up an hour earlier. seems rude not to lol.

i wont bother with first practice incase they all dont come out. and then id be really annoyed.

          24th March 2011, 16:10

I dont usually get up for practice, but as a Mclaren fan with real withdrawl symptoms, I shall be sleeping on the sofa tonight so that I can wake up and watch the “red button”. Then I can see how crap we look for this season :-(

  14. This is why I don’t believe in all this messing with the clocks nonsense…

For anyone confused, all the times on Sunday morning are BST, i.e. an hour forward of normal. So if you don’t set your clocks forward, you’ll be an hour late!

  15. It’s that time of the year again! the tv times are up were close now.
Right just to be clear, if i wasnt to change my clock on the sunday, would i have to get up for 5am effectively?

    1. The BBC coverage will start at 6am (effectively 5 am) and the race will start at 7am (effectively 6am)

  16. SPEED will be streaming FP1 and FP3 lve online, presumably with no commentary as they did last year. I tweeted the associate producer, who didn’t think the feed would be full HD but said it would definitely look better than last year.

  17. Thanks for posting the TV times Keith, much appreciated.

Looking forward to firing up the laptop for F1 Fanatic Live too…I know it will stop me watching the TV though ;)

Absolutely no point in going to bed on Saturday is there?

    1. i’ll be at my gfs, so no laptop! :(

  18. I’ve never been so excited to be exhausted all weekend. Thank God F1 is back.

  19. Can’t believe finally the season is about to start!..

Thanks Keith for your work thru the winter keeping us informed with a load of info that’s unbilievable!

And now I’m relizing our cable will broadcast in HD qualifing and races!! Can’t wait!!

  20. I’ve taken tomorrow off and I plan to watch FP1 live on BBC then have a bit of a sleep and catch FP2 on the iplayer at a more civilised hour. I won’t be bothering with FP3 as it’s just too late to do that and get up for Quali which I absolutely want to see live… I hate watching the bits that ‘really’ matter back later when it’s already happened!

  21. I am toying with the idea of getting up for both and joining you all for my first live board but will have to go to work after fp2. Maybe oddly the thing i am most interested in is watching hrt roll the car out for the first time

  22. Sod it think i am going to do it!

  25. Can someone confirm that the live feed on sunday morning is actually in HD, it shows on my planner its SD but and the replay at 7pm is in HD??????

    1. If you’re in the UK and watching it on BBC then as both the race and qualifying are on BBC1 (in standard definition) they will also be on BBC1 HD in High Def at the same time

The free practice sessions won’t be shown in HD but (and the same goes for the SD version of BBC1) you might see a better quality picture as it be captured in HD

      1. yep FP1 defo looks much cleaner picture than last year on the iplayer
