    1. I expect to analyse the hell out of all lap times today and get my predicitons in only to fail miserably come Sunday morning :D

      1. Haha! Perfectly said, Andrew!
        Let the games begin!

      2. Me too! I didn’t do any of these last year, but figured I ought to give it a shot this year just to see how clairvoyant I am.

    2. Played, and ready to spend a whole year pondering why I keep seeing myself as a F1 found and knowledgeable amateur while scoring a ridiculously low amount of points at this game.

      1. Lol! Same Tango.

        1. I have a cunning plan which I hope nets me 2nd place overall…

          1. An HRT front row Dan? ;-)

            1. Damn! Foiled…

      2. Same thing and I think I know my problem: I’m a FANatic, hence my predictions have a huge amount of what my heart wants to happen and substantially less what can realistically happen :-)

      3. Let the F1 team principals participate in this game and they will fail aswell (even though their data would help them a lot). And that is why we all love F1 so much, everything is possible and the more spectacular it happens the better …

        1. Ok, probably they wouldn’t fail, but I guess they wouldn’t tae the prizes either :-P

    3. Done, and now I´ll try to remember doing this all race weekends

I’m new here. Just entered my predictions.

Great website by the way. Have been following it for a year. And it’s definitely the best F1 site out there. Too bad I didn’t find it sooner.

      1. Thanks very much – glad you like it. Good luck in the competition!

    5. Prediction added, hehe… I’ve assumed the pole time is going to be somewhere around 1:24.5, what do you guys think?

      1. I thought 1.23.9, maybe a tad optimistic

        1. I entered 1:24.3 by Vettel. Not taking too much risk here.

          1. 1:24.7 Hamilton, I’m going for the McLaren optimism approach.

        2. Same i am thinking 1:23.4 something

          1. Me too. I put Vettel for 1:23.477.

        3. if the track eventually does rubber in, maybe…

        4. Yeah I went for 23.810 by Vettel.

          1. ambitious me thinks

            1. Yeah probably-I guess we’ll see tomorrow *waits eagerly*…

            2. @f1alex, nice new avatar! One of my favorites. Have you heard the 20th anniversary remastered version? Sounds way better.

        5. Probably near enough

      2. I thought somewhere around 1:24.5 aswell

        1. I did a 1:24.3

      3. I also guessed mid 1:24s; but if it doesn’t rain tonight, that might have been a bit pessimistic.

Any way of seeing everyones predictions this time?

    7. Yeah i’ve gone for webber getting a 1:24.1

      1. Ive predicted the same pole time.. but set by vettel

        1. Same time Rob but Alonso! :) Webber 2nd!

          1. What todfod said

    8. Last year I started out OK, top 20/30 I believe at one point, only to have a miserable mid-season and end in the middle of nowhere. Let’s see if I can do better this year ;)

      1. I would be quite happy with a top 500 and ecstatic with a top 100.

    9. does anyone else think the combination of DRS *and* no ‘team orders’ ban is potentially a bad idea? unless i’m misreading the rules… If i’m Ferrari, why not get Massa and Alonso continually pass one another with DRS in the ‘zones’ to put in quicker lap times compared to other teams who are still avoiding team orders. They could catch up to the lead easier or if they are 1 & 2, they could pull further away from the pack.

of course Ferrari wouldn’t do that….

      1. It was pointed to me that it would be difficult to implement, quite dangerous (too dangerous?) and also : who should win then?

And because it is legally possible I’d quite like to add : it would be really cool to see it happening!

        1. if it’s 600 metres of full throttle, then it should be an area that many drivers may have a go at passing the person in front, so the marbles should be cleared quite a way off the line. if i am the lead driver, then as i enter the zone, i move to the inside and let my teammate pass then tuck in behind. lather, rinse, and repeat as necessary!

who should win? why Fernandoo of course (in this scenario), since we know he is faster than blah blah blah… Ok then maybe just whoever was leading beforehand.

Difficult to implement? perhaps?! Maybe not if they practiced it in the sims beforehand. if you’re down in points in the last couple of races in the season and need some miracles, why not…

          1. Team orders in quali;
Massa sets his quali time earlyin the session, then floats 5 second ahead of alonso, backs off before a straight then hits full throttle and gives Alonso the perfect slipstream on the main straight then gets out the way.
            Alonso gains half a second?

      2. I think the advantage will be negated once you decide to switch places after using the DRS because the driver in the front will have to slow down to be overtaken.

      3. Why would Ferrari be the only team to do this just out of interest?

        1. I was beginning to wonder the same thing ;) maybe their past team orders history…

      4. Nigelstash (@)
        25th March 2011, 19:13

Because Massa couldn’t get past Alonso without Alonso slowing down and negating the advantage of a quick burst of DRS. Remember – Alonso is quicker than.. oh you know the rest. The teams with something to gain in this way would be the back markers. they could swap around for a while before retiring.

    10. Entered, let the games begin.

    11. Vettel will win. It is known.

      1. Nah. ‘Lonso. It is written.

    12. An idea Keith : if it is not too complicated, could it be possible to have the result for each race? You now, Tango, Melbourne, 45 pts | 647th… Maybe on two different tables.

    13. Here’s to a bit of unpredictability and chaos!

    14. where can we view our predictions?

      1. What he said???

    15. Man…this is tough….

    16. Yea, we had a list of predictions last season after hitting the submit button. Where is it now?
Here we go for another wonderful season, I cant wait. Go McLaren, Go Lewis

    17. Just a small thing, there’s a typo in the confirmation email:

Dear George Thanks you for submitting your entry to the Australia round of the F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship 2011

Should be a decent score to begin my campaign here, I cant see the Red Bulls being anything but 1&2.

    18. would be hard for anyone to predict. if the status quo of the old other is restored it means that the tyres didnt do what they were meant to do

    19. Predicted Webber on pole, but Alonso to steal the victory from him.

    20. Keith,
sorry to be thick, but I’m confused about the prize I’m going to win later this year.
The “Grand Prize winner” is the same as the “The person who scores the most points over the whole season” isn’t he/she? Only one seems to get two three-day passes with grandstand seatd for the race and the other one just gets grandstand seats for the race.

    21. Gone for a very fast pole time. Just for the laugh like. It feels very close now :) Giddy!

    22. Great idea, to auto e-mail predictions…. should save any arguments!

    23. i reckon the word sandbagging applies more heavily than any year before.
      Pole 1.22.9
Webber for the win with Button, Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton rounding out the top five.
      Let the games begin!
Hope i remember to actually play along for all the races this year. I must say that the fancy form you have Keith has prompted me to get involved where last three years I’ve read your site i haven’t bothered. As with everyone here, great work, it really is the authority on F1, not only for your insight, but the great collection of fanatics that make the conversation so well worth reading.

    24. am determined to do better in this years predictions and move from midfield to the front runners! have no real idea how the weekend will pan out but trying to use a mixture of heart and head. My head says the red bulls will be quick but my heart wants lewis to bring on the ol’ magic! my 6th sense says beware of alonso. enjoy the race people!

      1. Give Whitmarsh a call he seems to know how to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat… I need to give him a call too.

    25. Had to change my name to OEL F1 because I forgot my old password (lol)! So if anyone wonders, I’m the same person as OEL used to be.

    26. So it is now cast in stone. I have Webber on pole, but tried to mix up the results as Melbourne very rarely ends the way it starts.
There were 4 safety cars last year, and now ad in cooler weather and unfamiliar tyres its going to be a crazy race.

Going down to the track today with my son, can’t wait to hear that noise again!

      1. That’s brilliant, have a great day!

    27. STRFerrari4Ever
      25th March 2011, 22:09

First round of the prediction championship I hope I’m not as hopeless as last season!

    28. Oh, I just don’t care who is on pole, what their time is, who is sandbagging, whether the tyres will last, if FFW will allow “invisible” team orders, if Christian Horner’s foot is diddling faster than bernie can say “fake rain” or that FA has a go-faster tan-I JUST WANT IT TO BE SUNDAY! (but I’m still too excited about quali to go to sleep!)

    29. I have gone for a heart over head prediction, with Webber for pole and the win.

      1. Same.

Although in all fairness, Webber isn’t exactly slow, probably drives the fastest car and he’s probably used up all of his bad luck at Albert Park already. :)

    30. Vettel with a 124.221 the .221 sounds nice.
I want Mark to win (had his book brought back from Australia by a friend the week it was published-beautiful book) but Vettel has something to prove at Melbourne. Rosberg 2nd, Webber 3rd

    31. I don’t think that they are that much off the actual Q3-pace.

    32. It says my entry has been saved but I can’t view the results.

      1. Weirdly the Melbourne GP hasn’t started yet so therefore you can’t view the results.

        1. Nooo… last season I could see the results of our voting before the race.

    33. can’t wait to see how poorly i do this year!

      1. I can’t remember my score from last season, but it was indeed dismal. I think it was mid 400’s.

    34. it was difficult for me deciding what order to put the red bull lads in, and also, who to put for fifth place. i’m looking forward to see what ‘team lotus’ and renault have up their sleeve for qualifying, and if hrt run in practice 3.

    35. Where can we see the results from 2010 season??

    36. Aaaarrrggggh. I picked vettel on 1.23.6 but I wasnt logged in. So when I dud log in I had a change of heart and went 1.24.1

    37. So is there any way to see what the standings are for this?

      1. If nothing’s changed since last year, the results will be on tuesday.

        1. Thanks!

    38. Alonso can win
