  5. 1984: Winning a Mercedes 190E race for F1 drivers at the Nurburgring

Woah! What was that all about?

    1. This sort of thing really has to be done more often

    2. It was a one-off race held for the opening of the new Nurburgring. Everybody competed with the same car and that was what has made it special for Senna because at that time he was relatively unknown in the higher classes of auto racing. The fact that he managed to beat every world class drivers of that era – including Lauda and Prost – given the same conditions confirmed him as one of the quickest driver of his generation. Besides Monaco 1984 this was the race based on which he has been considered one of the brightest new talents of Formula 1.

      1. He didn’t really beat Prost. Prost took the pole for this race, and Senna pushed him out of the track on the first corner. Prost finished among the last

  6. I can’t begin to imagine how much of a telling off you would get today for catching a lift back with a fellow driver!

Scrolling down to the San Marino shots gave me such a chill.
So amazing, tears in eyes. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So much!

  8. See, Renault could have kept the yellow livery from last year and still have “been Lotus”! Just change the black writing to blue and hey presto!

    Wonderful pictures.
