Vettel leads Alonso in second practice

Sebastian Vettel assumed his customary position on top of the times at the end of Friday practice.

Vettel was quickest by a clear second early in the session as the drivers ran on soft tyres.

Fernando Alonso took over the fastest times after switching to super-softs. Vettel took the quickest time back again but by a reduced margin of two-tenths of a second.

Lewis Hamilton aborted several attempts to set a time on the faster rubber before finally setting a 1’47.115 for third on his fourth attempt.

Behind him were Felipe Massa and Mark Webber, with Michael Schumacher the quickest of the two Mercedes in sixth place.

Jenson Button’s session finished early after he made a mistake at turn 14. His McLaren came to a halt at the exit of the corner, facing the barrier. Button was unable to engage reverse gear and had to climb out of his car.

It was an early end for both Toro Rosso drivers as well. Sebastien Buemi clouted the barrier at turn 21 and knocked his front-right wheel off. Jaime Alguersuari’s day came to an end due to a technical glitch on his car.

Paul di Resta missed much of the session with an hydraulic problem on his Force India. He finally got out in time to set a single lap on the super-soft tyres.

There was no repeat of the problems with kerbs experienced in first practice as several were removed between the two sessions. They are expected to be restored before the next session tomorrow.

What happened to Nico? He’s always been very good round Singapore, so it’s weird he’s so far back, 2.4 seconds behind (an inspired?) MSC.

  Not sure, seems he never really got a clean run in on the softer tyres with low fuel.

  There’s no denying that Michael is in fine form – but you can’t take too much from qualifying. I’m hoping for another strong race from Schumacher, and hopefully a podium!

I must say, I liked to see Massa really putting a lot of effort in, was good watching that. If he can avoid mistakes, who knows, we might see him on the podium here?

  He had a good drive from last to tenth last year, so who knows? I agree, he did look good today.

  He has done well at this circuit in his career, and I think here he can reduce his gap from the other drivers and, perhaps, beat them.

seems force india is just the opposite this season, strong at high downforce circuits then renault seems to struggle a bit.

I didn’t see the video. Did the removal of the curbing affect the track enough to affect times? Interesting to see if the order will be affected when the curbs go back in.

Keith, i’ve often wondered if there is a suing/compo culture within F1. Would Incidents like the drain cover damaging montoyas car in china 05 and massa’s incident today (not sure of any damage) be liable to a claim against the circuits? Great site btw

Nico may be on a different program then Schumi.Ferrari is doing good seems like the condition & the tyres is suiting them well.Button had a bad luck hope that time lost on track won’t hurt him.

  Rosberg was on a different program, he ran what MS normally runs for them in the prctice sessions (higher fuel)..
  
  Nico was also VERY quick to point this out in the post practice interviews lol….
