   Webber is mathematically out! 2010 to 2011, he has had the largest performance dip. Even more than Hamilton.

      I wouldn’t say so. He`s right there in the battle for 2nd, fighting the same guys as last year.
      The only difference this year was the reliability on Red Bull`s cars improved massively, and Seb`s driving on another level to anyone else.

      I won’t comment on Hamilton this time! he has enough fighting with himself!

         I agree. Webber is even making less mistakes than last year, and hasn’t driven a race as bad as Bahrain, Australia, Valencia and Abu Dhabi 2010.

            His starts and tyre preservation are worse. Also, being regularly 0.5-1 second slower than his teammate is not acceptable for any F1 driver. Petrov was closer to Kubica last year and people were calling him one of the worst drivers of the decade. If it wasn’t Webber then everyone would be calling for his head.

               I agree on the starts, that are really dissapointing.
               But judging him by comparison to Vettel 2011 would be unfair to anyone!
               Seb’s the one who made the difference moving fwd, not Mark moving back.

      If all drivers had the same performance so all had an even chance of finishing in any position, then the odds of Vettel staying out of the points while Button wins for the next 5 races is 0.0000007962624%.

         Button would need to win all the races and Vettel would need to finish lower than 10th every time and Jenson would win by only one point! Still, although unlikely impossible, Jenson is doing a great job this year.

   Does anyone know many points have Massa and Hamilton lost crashing into each other this season? And how many times they crashed? I get a feeling mass a is being a cry baby.

            Hamilton turned into Massa’s tyre, but Felipe was a bit dramatic saying Lew couldn’t use his head, or something like that.

               It was a very minor incident. I appreciate that it ruined Massa’s race, so a penalty was probably deserved, but that doesn’t changed that in my opinion all he did was mistake either Massa’s exit speed or where the front corner of his car was.

               I think Massa was making a point that generally Lewis finds himself in these positions a lot lately rather than just this incident David or at least that’s how I read it.

   In fact 0: he needs to win 5 while SV have to avoid scoring a single point ! Pretty thin lifeline to be honest… In fact it couldn’t be harder: he nedds 5 miracles in a row !

      Given that his highest deviation from the maximum score/race is 13 points, Vettel would need to have a bonebreaking crash that keeps him from racing for the rest of the season.

       There are five races left in the season. That means Force India need just to score four and a half points per race to pass Renault. With Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari constantly locking out top-ten finishes, there are only four points positions left per race. And at least two of those races – Suzuka and Buddh – will not favour the Mercedes cars because of the high downforce requirements. It will be especially noticeable in Japan. Exactly what kind of effect Renault’s planned upgrades have remains to be seen, but if Force India can get both their cars into the points, in, say, the next three races, then Renault are going to be feeling very nervous going into Abu Dhabi and Brazil.

          It’s a lot more worth it for FI than Renault, tho. Fi can keep on pushing till the end of the season, whereas Renault might “give up” soon.

          Difficult anyway. It’s the only interesting battle in the CC

    Interestingly the top 3 drivers are Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari.with Vettel, Button, Alonso then interestingly the next 3 are also Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari in that order with Webber, Hamilton and Massa

       Looking at current performances at the end of the season it could be RBR RBR McL McL Ferrari Ferrari. RBR might back Webber for second in the championship and the McLarens are just way faster than the Ferraris, no matter how well Fernando does, over time the cars pace lets him go backwards.

    Force India Renault battle for 5th seems interesting. They have places 6 to 10 to fight for every race. If HAM continues the way he has been all season, it would be places 5 to 10 or 4 to 10 to fight for.

    22 points gap can definitely be over-hauled. Spectacular comeback from FI after losing a lot of key people through 2010. And what a nosedive for Renault. 2 podiums in first 2 races and now finishing behind a Lotus!

    Although it’s pretty much impossible, it must feel good for Button to know he’s the only driver who can catch Vettel.

       No, he only needs one point regardless of where Button finishes.

       One point would put Vettel on 310.

       Then, even if Button won all five races with Vettel not scoring, they’d both be tied on points, but Vettel would win by dint of having more race victories.
