The first round of the new season is almost upon us so it’s time to get your predictions in.

We’ve got a great selection of prizes to be won including British Grand Prix tickets for the overall championship winners.

And this weekend an Autocourse eBook and some F1 artwork will go to the players who make the top two predictions.

However to be in with a chance to win you’ve got to get your predictions in before the start of qualifying.

So what are you waiting for? Make your prediction below.

How to enter

To enter, predict the pole sitter and the top five finishers in the race. You can also enter a prediction for the pole position lap time – this may be used as a tie-breaker.

Enter your pole position lap time prediction as follows: MM:SS.ccc

For example, for a lap of one minute, 23.456 seconds you would enter 01:23.456

You need to log in using an F1 Fanatic account to make your prediction.

If you haven’t got one yet the sign-up process is quick, simple and entirely free: sign up here now.

After entering your prediction, you will receive an email confirming your entry. If this does not happen, or you are concerned your prediction has not been received, please get in touch using the contact form.

    1. Can’t wait.

    2. shumi for the win

    3. Im guessing vettel, mschimi, Hamilton, alonso, Kiki, button, webber

      1. Kiki is Raikonen ???

        1. Meant to say kimi. Damn new iPad.

    4. 01:23.456 would actually be a sensible prediction for the pole time this weekend.

      1. So you are assuming that the ban on EBD has had no affect on lap times, because last years was 1:23.529. Interesting!

        1. The fastest lap in this last year’s Barcelona tests was a 1:21.429 by Schumacher as far as I’m aware. This year’s was a 1:22.030 set by Raikkonen. Obviously I don’t have a clue as to what the fuel loads were on both of these runs but a difference of only 0.601 means I reckon they won’t be too far off Vettel’s pole lap from last year, considering Red Bull seem to be “sandbagging” even more this year than they did last.

          1. Apologies, that’s 1:21.249. I stand corrected!

      2. I think i will wait until after FP3 to make my predictions!

        1. A good plan.

However to be in with a chance to win you’ve got to get your predictions in before the start of qualifying.

Is this a relaxation of the rules? I seem to remember, last year, having to enter predictions before FP3.

          1. It was the same rules last year, year before that it had to be before practice.

    5. Predicted Hamilton on pole, and leading a McLaren 1-2 in the race, followed by Webber (would be nice to see him on the podium in Oz), Schumacher and Raikkonen; with Vettel nowhere to be found.

My brain knows this is all nothing more than wishful thinking, but my heart wants to believe!!!

    6. On the one hand, this first race is the ultimate test for an F1Fanatic to show off his or her brilliant prediction skills; on the other hand, as so little is known about the relative competitiveness of the cars, this is also a good occasion to indulge in some wishful thinking. My prediction is Hamilton, Webber, Schumacher, Button, Perez, and is definitely one in the latter category, though come Sunday evening (morning here, still), I hope it will prove to be the former as well.

@girts, I was actually considering 01:23.456, but I went for a low 1.24 instead. I think the ban on EBD will not affect the laptimes of the midfield, but it might affect those of the Red Bull.

    7. This is an awful decision to make.

But I think McLaren followed by Mercedes followed by RBR here, they seem to be the cars with the most stability anyway, but can’t really judge much by 2 wet sessions…

    8. Wishfull thinking it is for me again!
Doesn’t help, but I can only imagine the double satisfaction…

    9. I put Button for winning the race. That would be awesome!

      1. I’d love for that to happen too :D it would take his tally up to 3, making him the 2nd most successful driver at Melbourne :)

    10. 1. Vettel – I hope this isn’t this case but it’s my gut feeling
      2. Button – I reckon Button will be behind Lewis for most of the race, then pip him after the final pitstop having conserved his tyres a bit more. I reckon its going to be very close between them.
      3. Hamilton – Could very well be Vettel’s closest challenger, but I’m putting him 3rd for the reason mentioned above. From what he’s been saying in interviews he’ll be happy to just get a podium anyway.
      4. Rosberg – Despite most of the hype surrounding Mercedes involving Schumacher, I reckon Nico will quietly go about his business and pick up another one of his trademark almost-podium places.
      5. Webber – I’m not one for superstition, but there’s been something preventing Webber from bettering his 5th place in his first race down-under in the Minardi, and I can’t see that changing this year.

      1. why are ppl still banging on about hamiltons tyre preserving skills?how many times did lewis lose out because of tyres?not very often, and at times last season jenson wore his tyres out before lewis.
lewis is ok with these new tyres, and he should be even better with them this season if he learned anything from last from what happened last season.

    11. The lap record was 1:24.?? by Schumi in 04′. I doubt they will break it with the track being green from the rain. I think Schumi will get a podium and the other 2 spots will be a Red Bull and a Maclaren. Maybe. :)

      1. That’s the fastest lap time during a race.

        1. Thanks. I was in a hurry to get to work and didn’t take the time to look it up properly.

          1. Wow. My time on pole is within 3 tenths right now. :)))) I hope it holds up.

      2. @twiinzspeed As @broxter points out that’s the lap record but we’ve seen quicker laps in practice and qualifying.

The fastest lap of the track was Vettel’s pole lap last year, a 1’23.529:

Have put in a prediction just to be on the safe side. Lewis for pole and Button for win..

    13. Would love to see Schuey win but think it will go this way…………… 1st Hamilton, 2nd Vettel, 3rd Button, 4th Alonso, 5th Schuey. But i cannot watch it live as i do not have Sky and there are no Pubs open at that time!!!!!!!

    14. Well driving in this early with no real dry running is always gonna be slightly peeing into the wind (hope that is not too ‘sweary’ Keith). But dont have the luxury of waiting until after FP3 in the wee hours of the morning. Guess my only thoughts are RBR seem a little more reticent than last year and MCL more upbeat. Mercedes seem to have stolen a march on the rest with their rear-wind feed. Renault, sorry – Lotus, seem to be pretty damn pacey regardless. Think the pole will be slower than last year. Apart from the usual rule changing clipping of wings, the track has been washed green from Friday. 1:23.750 seems quite speedy considering, but where have I hung my hat?
Pole? Vettel – he just really is terribly quick on a single lap in prime conditions.
Win? Button – maybe wishful thinking, but he really does seem to manage tyre wear very well and that is more extreme this year.
The rest? Vettel should be on podium and would not be surpirsed if Ferrari (well, Alonso!) put in a excellent performance despite the head shaking and long face at the prancing horse. Webber will be okay. Hamilton will be tested by bad luck – just read the tea leaves for that one (okay, red grits from my glass of vintage port!). Kimi will make a welcome return in the VERY quick Renault – sorry – Lotus!!
      Hallo again folks…!

    15. Git er done Lewis!!!! Make me proud!

    16. What a handful the new ferrari looked in free practice, alonso could struggle to get into the top 10 final shoot out.All Mclaren front row with lewis on pole…Then the red bulls…Then the mercedes.Definately make for an interesting first few laps come the grand prix.

    17. Oops, submitted 4 times before I noticed they were going through :/

Really have no clue, but I dont trust myself to stay awake for FP3 so just gonna have to guess it!

    18. The F1 season is here and it starts right now! As Martin Brundle said- The Merc looks like a bulet and my god it’s fast!
      Schumacher and Mercedes ,all in.

    19. 1:24.237 is my guess

    20. McLaren are in great shape lets hope there competitive.

    21. 1 minute before the start of the session and I was told that deadline has passed :/

      1. 01:24:894 was my prediction for Pole :)

    22. This is brilliant! I correctly predicted the top 5 in the right order (for the first time ever), the only difference was the pole sitter. 48 points for me but 25 for Jenson, a great day all round.

    23. 4 out of 5 in the right order (I had Nico instead of Webber) and missed the pole sitter aswell…
Well done @alexf1man if you are not the winner, you’ll definitely be the runner up… 29 points for me, I am ahead of Jenson :D !
