So, Lotus are running a special “500 races” livery.
This got me thinking, as Lotus Racing celebrated their 500th race in Valencia in 2010, 9th race of the season, whilst Monaco 2012 is the 6th. So I took a look at the options:
1. Do they mean 500 races?
1a. Are they considering their team as a continuation of the original Team Lotus? ‘Cause in that case this would be their 497th race (491 as Team Lotus and 6 as Lotus F1 Team).
1b. Are they considering their team as a continuation of Toleman? ‘Cause in that case this would be their 514th race (70 as Toleman, 260 as Benetton, 178 as Renault [since 2002] and 6 as Lotus F1 Team).
2. Do they mean 500 starts?
2a. Are they considering their team as a continuation of the original Team Lotus? ‘Cause in that case this would be their 495th start (489 as Team Lotus and 6 as Lotus F1 Team).
2b. Are they considering their team as a continuation of Toleman? ‘Cause in that case this would be their 500th start (57 as Toleman, 260 as Benetton, 177 as Renault [since 2002] and 6 as Lotus F1 Team).
So the answer is 2b.

When I was making my F1 Constructor infographic I tweeted them asking if Lotus (2012) was an extension of Renault or Lotus (pre-2012), as their answer would dictate a part of the design.
Basically, they said that Lotus (2012) is “Team Enstone” (Renault, Benetton etc.) and not “Teal Lotus” (Lotus/Caterham).

@pjtierney That’s what I was thinking.

Thanks for filling in @pjtierney, I do think I read a press release saying it was Enstone’s 500th race, but this pretty much confirms their thinking.

Ah, I missed that! It’d have saved me some research @pjtierney!
@brawngp I looked at the numbers on Wikipedia, and summed them up. Not a long time was wasted, don’t worry ;)

They always get this kind of stat wrong. Remember Felipe’s milestone last year?

Monaco – Its tacky, its materialistic, its a ghastly view of the skewed distribution of wealth through the world, and I love it.

I keep forgetting how much I love Massenet and Casino Square. (Such a pity the Ferrari’s ugly this year for the sake of that picture!)

The one of Kovalinen headed towards the tunnel is beautiful. The sea looks lovely.
