Good win for Mark, but worrying that McLaren are going backwards… they really have to pull something special out to even compete for another podium, let alone the championship
McLaren Mercedes = a disgrace in 2012… No balls at all only “with hindsight comments and long -excuses talks”, smiles to attract sponsors and cock-ups race after race! If it wasn’t for Mr Hamilton skills, that car wouldn’t qualify so higher meanwhile Mr Button is constantly underperforming! What a waste of talent are we witnessing… Beyond me to understand what’s going on in their heads and why the car is become so crappy. And for the pit-stops, no comment; one race not enough to applaud and be happy… show some consistency in the results and we will see if they’ve really improved. Time to move on!
Great drive from Mark. Plenty to take out of the weekend. There is a clear pecking order now, with Ferrari and Red Bull at the top, then Lotus and then Mclaren and Mercedes. Webber and Alonso are easily the best wheel-to-wheel racers in F1 while Maldonado is the worst. Finally, Ricciardo is really getting the better of Vergne, I’m dissapointed in Vergne’s performances this year.
But Vergne did not beat Ricciardo in just one race. From the first 7 races, he finished 6 better than his teammate. And despite starting right at the back here, he finished right behind him again. I would say that Vergne is doing a solid job in the races (apart from that cock up in Valencia), but he is not good enough in qualifying.
I was really hoping for a Webber, Hamilton, or Vettel win for the championship to remain more stable. Sure there are a lot of races, but a consistent Alonso with 3 wins right now would put him too far ahead of the field imo.
It also seems Webber loses out to Alonso most times, so surely this will give him (Webber) that extra boost of confidence. Brilliant strategy from Red Bull all round today as is evidenced by MW p2 to p1 and SV p4 to p3.
So most of the story falls in the car performance: Ferrari showing off massive progress as ALO says and evidenced by MAS on his lap thru the coruse, RBR definitely equipped with some magic touch from Adrian of which the performance shown in Valencia was not so called tyre only issue as claimed by Sam Michael, and huge performance of Lotus Renault. Here it seems RBR is leading again followed by Ferrari and Lotus. Big congrats on McLaren. Don’t want to be cynical but I can’t help, now ranked overall at 4th or 5th tied with Merc. Problem seems that, still they don’t look taking it as a fact insisting big upgrade at home ground with at least a tenth gain. Better than nothing when others are gaining five tenths or more. Maybe they will blame tyre again, car is top tier but tyre does not go well with that cherished McLaren. Then guess they will soon find themselves in the mid field competing with Force India or Williams.

Great win for Mark, feel Fernando was the better driver on the day though. This championship is heating up nicely.

The tyres don’t make sense. The prime compound was faster and it lasted longer.

Well Vergne is in front of Ricciardo in the standings while the latter has more F1 experience…

That’s not an accurate representation at all. With their amount of points, it only means Vergne beat Ricciardo in one race.

Nicest thing about this? Massa.
Worst thing about this? No surprises at the back. Caterham nicking a place off a Toro Rosso would have been welcome.
