Ten of the best pictures which tell the story of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

Felipe Massa, Friday practice

It was a tough weekend for Felipe Massa in Monaco as he suffered two similar crashes at Sainte Devote. Ferrari found no car fault in the first crash but believed the second was caused by suspension failure.

Romain Grosjean, Saturday

Romain Grosjean gives his team the thumbs-up. He had a lot to thank them for in a weekend where he damaged his car three times before qualifying began. He crashed again in the race, taking Daniel Ricciardo out.

Jean-Eric Vergne, Saturday

Jean-Eric Vergne was in fine form in the wet part of qualifying and duly made it through to Q3 for the first time. He matched the best result of his career in the race, coming home eighth.

Sebastian Vettel got away well from the line but he couldn’t take advantage of the slow-starting Mercedes which ran side-by-side into the first corner.

The two Red Bulls passed Lewis Hamilton during his pit stop, leaving him in a classic Monte-Carlo traffic jam.

Nico Hulkenberg, 2013 Monaco Grand Prix

The Safety Car made three appearances during the race after a series of crashes. Nico Hulkenberg was particularly disadvantaged by the latter and couldn’t get his tyres working again after it.

Fernando Alonso, 2013 Monaco Grand Prix

Surprisingly Fernando Alonso was passed by both Jenson Button and Adrian Sutil during the race.

Adrian Sutil, 2013 Monaco Grand Prix

Adrian Sutil acknowledges the support of the crowd and marshals after a fine drive to fifth.

Nico Rosberg, 2013 Monaco Grand Prix

  1. I wonder how long it is until Grosjean gets kicked out of Lotus: he’s either slow but safe or fast but constantly crashing. He’s costing Lotus so many constructor’s points and damaging others races.

    1. @vettel1 I don´t want to, he just got married and wife is pregnant. Have a heart!

      1. Sorry @celeste I don’t have one – I am completely and utterly ruthless when it comes to things such as this! I couldn’t care less for his personal situation: if there’s a better driver available he/she should get the seat.

For me he was already on his last opportunity at the start of this season and it’s time for him to go – he’s a liability currently.

@celeste come on! as if grosjean had to sleep under a bridge if he loses his job! These people sweat money!

        1. @vettel1 @omarr-pepper guys, I was joking…. cheers

          1. @celeste that wasn’t particularly clear… ;)

  2. so a photographer was sitting in the bushes at the hairpin ? LOL

It’s amazing the lengths @keithcollantine will go to for the perfect snapshot! XD

      1. @hellotraverse: you mad? He doesn’t take them, see the watermarks? yeah…

          @aish
I know that he doesn’t take them. And no, I’m not craaaazy…at least that’s what my psychiatrist tells me! ;)

          1. @hellotraverse guess that our jokes weren´t very good ones today? ;)

          2. @hellotraverse @celeste You could have add one as you should be an explorer to take the hairpin pic : © Colombo
Actually, I also think you will only have reply if someone doesn’t understand it (or if someone understands and loves it but I guess it’s rarer)

  3. Wow good ones again!
Those from the start are awesome.

  4. Every year I watch the Monaco Grand Prix and I envy with open lust the spectators on their balconies overlooking the track. And every year I look at the block of flats at the super-tight hairpin (between Mirabeau and Le Portier where Sutil mugged Alonso) and I see that the ground and third floor always have their shutters down ignoring the race, and I think “What a waste!”
What are these people doing? Where have they gone, and why haven’t they given me their keys? I’ll feed the cat/goldfish/budgie, I’ll even clean the bathroom (within reason). Just let me use your balcony . . .

    1. Agreed – I will even go to the lengths of cleaning the car with my tongue if that’s what is required…

      1. @vettel1 I’ll write them a letter. A clean bathroom and a clean car – they can’t resist that.

        1. @timothykatz precisely: all we ask for in return is to be able to put a deck chair in view of the track!

          1. But seriously Max (@vettel1), it is fundamentally weird that these two apartments are always closed up on the race weekend – they have certainly been so for the past five years. And I wonder if there is another reason. Are they rented by visiting teams/drivers/journalists?

          2. It does seem rather strange to me that’d be the case as usually hotel prices more than double for the demand – why wouldn’t you rent them out as a landowner if you weren’t interested in watching the race yourself? Seems like wasted revenue to me unless there’s some other reason like you’ve proposed @timothykatz

    2. I know the exact apartments you mean and i was thinking the same thing. I guess if you have the money to own or even lease one of those places then you probably don’t care for the money you could be making by renting out the place for the weekend — because it’s obvious they’re not fans, and probably just split for Italy for a few days.

  5. Nice one of Massa, quite unusual angle, and unusual to see his car in one piece around Monaco :-)

  6. Nice pics, but where’s the one with Rosberg and the pigeon during the safety car period? :)

  7. The Monaco train picture is really great! Going to save that one:)

  8. The Toro Rosso on the third photo is Ricciardo’s, not Vergne’s.

    1. Thanks I’ve swapped it for the right picture.

  9. Grosjean gives the thumbs up “Crash in the first corner? Sure, I can do that!”

  10. Lewis Hamilton in the last pic, haha.

    “Oh, yay…”

    1. Nailed it!
