Jean-Eric Vergne, Toro Rosso, Spa-Francorchamps, 2013The Toro Rosso drivers were surprised to find themselves off the pace during Friday practice in Korea.

Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo were 15th and 16th at the end of the second session.

“We had a problematic Friday, with the main difficulty having to do with the balance of the car,” said Vergne.

“We are not too sure what is the cause of these problems, so it will be a long night to study the data to try and find a solution.

“Strangely, the car felt better in the morning session. We are not happy with where we are now, but I still believe the car can be much better here, so we just need to put everything together in the right way and try again tomorrow morning.”

Ricciardo said the team were “on the back foot right from the first session, because the pace wasn’t there”.

“We really thought we could cure it for the second session, but that wasn?óÔé¼Ôäót actually the case.”

However Ricciardo remained optimistic about the team’s prospects: “I still believe this is a track that should suit us, but we are leaving it to the last minute to be competitive tomorrow.”

    1. On the bright side, STR were in a similar position last year after FP2 at Korea, yet still got both cars to finish the race in the points. And it wouldn’t be the first time this year they’ve recovered from a bad Friday.

That said, it would be nice if they could show some speed from the beginning of the weekend. Silverstone is the only time I can recall it happening this season.

    2. Yeah a bit of a basket case this car at times isn’t it- they either seem to find some real speed or are scrathing their heads off the pace!
