It was a great race! I am still hoping for more from Ferrari as Ted Kravitz confirmed that they couldn’t run ultimate power at all due to an electrical problem. But great pitstop by Ferrari though! 2.2 secs makes it the fastest ever I’m sure. Congrats to every single one of the podium finishers! And Toro Rosso.
@scuderia_fan85 Yeah. The commentators were like “Wow, what a fast stop” when Kev. Magnussen did a 2.8 secs right after, and I was shaking my head in disbelief.
I think in terms of aero, Red Bull is still top class but Mercedes is the one with overall package. Mclaren and Ferrari looks very close when it comes to chassis but engines make difference now. Force India is one of teams who is benefiting from Mercedes engine. I can’t see they have better chassis than Ferrari but overall they are close. So my guess is…
Chassis
1st – Red bull, Mercedes
2st – Mclaren, Williams, Ferrari
3st – Force India, Toro Rosso
Engines
1st – Mercedes
2st – Ferrari and Renault are comparable
Overall
1st – Mercedes
2st – Red Bull
3st – Mclaren, Williams, Ferrari, maybe Force India…
4st – Toro Rosso
I think in terms of aero, Red Bull is still top class
I have to agree with you on this, without the EBD and with the packaging restrictions which probably was the main strengths of RBR in the previous years, the RB10 with the Renault power is still a very good car, the only doubt is what can it do with Vettel behind the wheels It seems that the RB10 has inherited some aerodynamics characteristics from its previous predecessors which is actually a good news for McLaren with the switch of Prodromo in 2015
1st Mercedes (Rosberg had the fastest pace, Hamilton wouldn’t be far behind)
2nd and not far behind Mclaren and Williams (Magnussen is the man I like and Button was just covering his back. The best team in first 2014 race… Bottas had great race today and showed some real speed with his Williams matching best laptimes and I’m sure Massa would be fast to….)
3rd again not far behind 2nd are Red Bull and Ferrari (Riccardo showed some skills today although I think Red Bull is not sooo fast and a bit fragile. Fernando is as always doing his best with not top car Ferrari finishing 4th..)
4th and still interesting Force India and Torro Rosso (Kvyat, Vergne and hulkenberg just made today’s race more interesting – and that makes races more exciting…)
….. Well, I’ve had a lot of fun in the morning and I think very interesting championship is on way…. Can’t wait for the next race :P
If the red bull was running with correct flow rate I hardly think they would have been ahead of McLaren, or even Ferrari whom were carrying electrical problems.
boring race. still not enough passing and with several WDC contenders going out early in the race. hoped for more from Ferrari, but they have not improved from last year; still lower half of top ten…
Yes, race was poor but it is suppose to get better next few races. Lewis being out with PU problems did not help the possibility of a fight for P1 once Mercedes is clearly ahead of the field.
Talking on Lewis, I think Rosber is not aware of his team mate problem just yet or he just totally ignored his mate’s lack of fortune today.
this race was extremely boring . ferrari as usual came up with their so called crappy car once again .great drive by magnesson -this kid is the real thing . mercedes is dominating and i hope alonso leaves the has been team this year .5 years and still they aren’t able to provide a car which is of some worth . what a shame
Race was generally boring except first 12 laps when everybody crashed, stopped. Renault’s resurgence is good news but Mercedes is still a way ahead. Ferrari seems mediocre which is disappointing.
Still great drives from rookies(sort of) are welcomed. Kevin and Daniel was brilliant, Bottas was quite good either, even Kvyat looks fairly promising.
hell of a drive by Bottas there, lovely to see Williams back in proper action. Magnussen did well, an delighted Rosberg won. Sad for Massa and Vettel, interesting to see how things go in the next race
The first 15 and the last 10 laps were exciting. Not as boring as it could have been. Absolutely gutted for Lewis Hamilton. Kevin Magnussen is absolutely the dogs bollocks, isn’t he? And also great to see the resurgence of Williams and had Bottas not screwed up, he could have finished higher up. Mercedes need to get their act together and ensure reliability if they have to realise the potential of their car.
Well that was a good start to the year! Lots of nice subplots on the go already: Vettel and Hamilton need to regroup and get their title challenges back on track. That said I think they both also proved that anything is possible at this stage of the season, so I don’t think Rosberg and relax just yet. It is good to see that Williams’ pace is genuine and that Bottas managed to recover from that unforced error early in the race. KMag does seem to be the real deal doesn’t he…and it was a nice strong showing from McLaren in general after 2013.
What domination by Rosberg and Mercedes !! Great drive by Bottas and Magnussen . It was a thrilling race. Sad for Lewis . But I think he has the tools to deliver this year .
Found the race pretty boring, but I’m pretty happy with the end result. Rosberg will need those points as a buffer against team orders, and Danny / Kev did exceptionally well.
Just a thought:
Ricciardo. Everyone was so convinced that they hired him only because he was already in the Red Bull family and because they didn’t want to put a champion alongside Vettel. But look at him, first race, great qualifying and straight into the podium, even after a very challenging winter.
Magnussen. Mclaren took a very big risk, it’s always difficult to have a rookie in a top team, especially with very little testing. But he put his car on the podium in his debut, impressive performance.
Finally, Kvyat. It was a surprising choice by Toro Rosso, everyone expected Da Costa to be there. So a lot of people thought that Kvyat was a paydriver or just that it was a PR move, because we are going to have the first Russian GP this year. Not only he won the GP3 championship soon after the announcement, but he also scored points in his first GP, becoming the youngest driver to do so.
Ricciardo really, really impressed me. His race pace and consistency was very convincing – absolutely no mistakes the whole weekend, unlike even Räikkönen (who was touted as a potential replacement for Webber).
And irrespective of his driving, I am really endearing to him. I have always liked Ricciardo (he has been in my top 5 favourite drivers from the begining), but he may even be my second favourite behind…well, I’ll give you one guess. ;)
Very exciting race, even with the premature exits of Lewis, Sebastian and Felipe, but it wasn’t as massive an amount of DNF’s as feared. The DRS was on a good level today, not too effective I think. But the fuel saving did ruin flat out racing and made an anti-climax out of the duel between Daniel and Kevin at the end of the race. But ok, fair enough that the driver who’s package and driving conserves the most fuel has energy to fight to the end. Button was even more impressed with Kevin’s performance during qualifying in the wet, than he was with his podium in his first race. But this race bodes well for the future of young drivers Daniel, Kevin, Bottas and Kvyat.
And the driver of the weekend is THE FOUR TIMES F1 CHAMPION (driving a motor while the rest of drivers had just a bike) SEBASTIAN VETTEL! The one who was told to be the best, the one who qualified 12 and did not even see his partner on the race….
Today I am VERY MAPPY, today everybody knwos the real level of SEB. Without the car advantage CERO!
Great race. The Championship is open and there are several drivers who challenge the status quo. Kevin Magnussen showed his extreme talent from day one. He has speed, he has discipline and he has a good team around him. Bottas and good old Button climbed the ranks impressively during the race. Eventhough Button is only the second best driver at McLaren, he is still a great and very complete driver. If anyone still disregard Magnussen as a F1 top 3 contender they will have to change their mind as the season progress.
What a shambles. false start with one car breaking down on the grid, then another breaks down. Hamilton’s car not running properly from the start then retiring. Vettel’s not running right from the start then retiring Poor old Kimi’s car not running right with the brakes locking up. Then 2nd place Red Bull excluded for technical infringements. despite the BBC team trying to make it seem interesting I would think the BBC are wringing there hands at saving a shed load of money by losing half the TV rights to Sky. I want to watch balls out racers like Hamilton, Alonso and Kimi battling for the win with cutting edge mechanical Technology. If i wanted to watch a battle of software computer geeks I can watch the playstation wars on motors TV.
Lets face it any fuel saved for the tree-huggers in the whole weekend was at least doubly thrown away by the Australian Air Forces Fly pasts. Touring Cars and Nascar here I come. I don’t think I will bother to watch many more Fiasco’s like this and neither I suspect will many others. Todd and Bernie have shot themselves in the foot.
I miss the open wheels where the drivers had to shift use clutches and race. This is getting to be more like a souped up Prius deal. I don’t care about fuel flow, I’m not going to the supermarket and back this is racing. Australian V8 is sounding more appealing. I was disappointed by the race and my expectations weren’t very high.
