  1. Going to be a long night for us Aussies…

    1. The race itself will be live on 10

      1. @ 01:00 :(

        1. Umm 11pm as the coverage starts here at 10.30pm on Ten Network but our broadcaster won’t last as it will be rebranded

  2. Is it really worth waiting until 10pm for the BBC? Coulthard’s commentary’s so poor I’ll wait till the morning

    1. @turbotoaster no-one would blame you! i think coulthard has gone seriously downhill without brundle. and suzi perry is just cringeworthy. it’s a shame because when the beeb first got the coverage it was really good (leggard aside) but they’re just turning off viewers (or viewers are turning off…) with this watered down coverage. getting rid of gary anderson was just the latest in a series of stupid decisions.

      1. The only thing i agree with you is gary anderson not being around.

      2. Ben Edwards doesn’t exactly help with his repetitive “Lights out, and away we go, and it’s a good start from [pole sitter]”, that he has now used 41 times in a row.

        1. You have a point about the starts, but I’d listen to Ben Edwards over Croft, Legard and Allen any day of the week. Lee McKenzie needs to be presenting the show, and Gary Anderson needs to be resurrected.

Shame we can’t get Irvine in the com box to be honest ;)

@frood19 @strontium @turbotoaster I could handle BBC’s commentary team last season. Coulthard was decent, had his moments but he was definitely petering out. His ‘pitwalk’ in Sepang was almost as bad as the minute silence. Gary Anderson made it half good in 2013.

Suzi Perry on the other hand is a joke. Consistently delivering sketchy, no-knowledge trash to BBC viewers. Lee McKenzie is more much competent and knowledgeable, and should be promoted to lead anchor and not be wasted to solely do program fillers and interviews.

I’m not keen on Sky’s broadcasting, and remain underwhelmed. Damon Hill is comically poor at presenting. For me it’s all resurrected by Brundle & that Kravitz fellow. All in all, I think I’ll be changing allegiences to Sky this season.

@frankjaeger – I completely agree, Lazenby, Pinkerton, Hill and certainly Herbert have their moments of awfulness, but it is nothing compared to the oil and water mix that is DC, Perry and McNish. By comparison, Sky has the contemporary knowledge of Davidson, the sporadic humour of Kravitz, the genuine and passionate commentary of Crofty, and the sheer unbridled brilliance of my personal oracle of choice, Martin Brundle.

@william-brierty ‘Oil and water mix’ that perfectly describes the BBC entente Hahaha

I agree totally about Lee. I’m actually watching 2009 and I was thinking that she had been with the team for so long, why have they not promoted her. She’s not even a huge part of the program and I know exactly who she is. And I’m still of the minority opinion that Legard wasn’t terrible. At least not terrible enough for a sacking petition. It is funny how that hasn’t happened to Coulthard when I think he’s been much worse since :P

At least Allan McNish does appear to be pretty decent so far this year. Let’s hope he doesn’t get too commercialised the way Eddie Jordan did. Fingers crossed!

          @turbotoaster Too right mate

I couldn’t believe EJ owned, and ran an F1 team when I started following F1

          1. @frankjaeger
XD I got a chuckle out of that

  3. Heads up to the US viewers – qualifying is live on CNBC rather than NBCSN Saturday morning due to the Barclays premiership clash. Race will be on NBCSN and the clashing Sunday prem game over on CNBC. :)

  4. Giving this one a miss. Can’t be bothered to avoid the result (50:50 Hamilton or Rosberg) or wait that long for highlights. And the race will look like it’s on the moon or in a deserted mall car park.

It’s more interesting just to read a race report afterwards, once all the quotations and data sheets have been pulled together and analysed. Writing “that was a fascinating race” is missing the point, though – the teams have made it dull as ditchwater on TV, with their orders to save fuel/cool something down/cuddle the tyres/wait for the stops/whatever you do don’t race. Such a shame as these new, more powerful, cars would be spectacular with Hamilton, Bottas, Hulkenberg, Alonso and the others just going at it.

  5. Yay no more all-nighters!

    1. But for us Australians we are in a good timezone to view most races at a decent hour

  6. Keith, am I right in saying that free practice for GP2 is now 45 minutes?

  7. In the UK, the races are also available on BBC Radio 5. My plan this year for the Sky-only races is to listen to it live, then watch the highlights later if it sounded like a good race!

  8. Was anybody else appalled by the editing of the BBC coverage. People passed cars but in the next shot were behind several cars, pit-stops obviously, but nothing was said. Surely with the highlights package they need a comment bar at the bottom of the screen for all the stuff we are not seeing. Thought there coverage of Bahrain was awful!
