Lotus 49 (1967-8) pictures

The Lotus 49 was another of Colin Chapman’s game-changing cars. Using the new Cosworth DFV engine, which formed a structural part of the chassis, Lotus took a leap ahead of their rivals.

The car proved a little too fragile on its introduction in 1967. But in 1968 Graham Hill used it to great effect to win his second championship.

Lotus claimed their third constructors title, but were rocked by the death of Jim Clark in an F2 race early in the season.

  1. The wonderful picture of Jim Clark is at Silverstone in 1967, not Brands Hatch in 1969.
I know, I was there (but not beside the photographer!).

    1. Yes, that’s clearly been mislabelled! Have changed it.
