Expect a more interesting Qualy, but otherwise it still a nice one

    1. More interesting as in Hamilton not on pole ? That was one of the best qualifying sessions in a long while !

      1. Totally agree with you @f190, it was a cracker of qualifying session.

No I say it an exciting one but expect Ferrari to be closer

          1. Two tenths off pole, what did you expect? Infact after FP3, I thought Mercs were bit heavy on fuel but it wasnt the case as we all saw in Qualifying. Ferrari and RedBull have definitely closed gap to Mercedes.

        2. 1000+ agree. what a cracker qualifying!

  2. For the first time in a long time, Ferrari’s pace actually made me smile! :P

Only 0.226 s slower than Mercedes and 0.053 s slower than Red Bull around such a long lap is surprisingly good.

This car has good handling, but as we saw in Monza, the engine is the biggest weakness.

    1. @kingshark agreed, one of the more encouraging 5ths for Alonso.

    2. @kingshark I never like Alo as a Ham fan but since 2010 i have loved the guy after Ham i hope he gets a deserved WC he deserves one more than Hamilton imo. But i think we can both agree for their talent they deserve more than being a 2xwc and 1xwc. It breaks me that Vet has 4 lol and we know Vet would be lunch.

I think Alo probably underachieved that may sound harsh but i think he should been on 2nd row. He was looking good not just in practise but qually same with Kimi so the pace was their today.

    3. And the Red Bull of DR only .173 off poll pace. This should be a great race if the qualifying is indicating anything? I predict DR to win this race and keep the WDC alive somehow.

  3. Great qualy session! Rosberg “Dammit” reaction to the info that Ham had beaten him was hilarious. Shame for Raikkonen also.

    1. I saw DamonW’s comments earlier about Rosberg being his Pole favorite – great prediction DamonW. Nico was only 7/1000s from doing what you predicted.

      1. lol it was not great atall the guy said Ros would beat Ham at Moanco and Singapore. He said he knew Ham was never much good. I hope he knows for the stats this year. 4 times Ros has got pole with a big question mark next to it. Monaco Ham could not get a lap, Silverstone was Hamilton’s fault but he was still looking faster and then Hockenheim and Hungary, Ham has 6 poles with all those problems. He has 2 extra wins whilst not finishing twice as many times.

        1. I’m sure I can recall Hamilton having a run in Monaco which was slower than Roseberg’s.

          1. I am sure I recall Rosberg parking his car after messing up his last run in Q3 in such a way that Lewis dint get a chance to set a faster lap..

          2. I hope you enjoy that single straw you are clutching…

  4. I am literally eating my words right now. I thought Rosberg would eat Hamilton for lunch but Hamilton did a James Bond on Rosberg. Great to see Danny up there once again with his big smile, can’t wait for the race tomorrow!

    1. You should have realized by now that there is no track anyone could eat Hamilton for lunch. That doesn’t mean his unbeatable but there is no track where he can get humiliated by having the other guy putting half a second or more just because the other guy made a faster lap.
Hamilton may have some tracks like Hungary were his amazing but he has no track where his just awful. He can drive around everything. Even at his worst track his still quite decent.

  5. It was an interesting qualifying. Too bad that Kimmi couldn’t made the 3rd session. But, like last GP, I may predict an incident in the first corner…

Even though the lap times were 3 seconds slower than last year, it was very entertaining to watch the cars slide around this track.

Damn Mercedes. Felt really sorry for Raikkonen he couldn’t give it the beans. He was the lead in the pack of cars and I think he would of had a great shot.

  8. This was definately the best qualy-session of the year! Just 0.007 sec separating the two Mercedes, the RBs very close to them and even Ferrari with a very strong performance (Alonso just 0.05 behind Ricciardo and just 0.005 behind Vettel)! But the biggest surprise of the session were the Williams. Massa just 0.3 sec behind pole!! Magnussen and Kvyat did a very good job too!
Also Gutierrez, Grosjean and Bianchi showed a very strong performance and outqualified their teammates by almost a second.

    1. What about Magnussen 0,569 sec behind pole pos – decent and way ahead of Kvyat and Button.

      1. It’s a great result for Kevin in comparation to Button but it’s also a fantastic effort from Daniil as well. Youngsters are winning! :)

  9. Yeah i thought it was a great quali, wasnt sure what was going to happen,

  10. Interesting Qualy, too bad RAI’s car broke down and ALO didn’t pull of a perfect lap. It will be even more interesting if the Ferraris are in with the RBR and Mercs, but nevertheless this is going to be an interesting race.

It is getting embarassing for Vettel now, the track where he won the last three GPs and yet he is still shown up by Dan the Magic Man. I predict Vettel will soon retire as neither Ferrari or Mclaren would want such a one-dimensional champion…

@05abrahamsemere keep dreaming. He is in a bad year, as Hamilton, Kimi also had bad years. Even Kimi retired for “being bad” and bounced back with 2 victories at Lotus. And Hamilton had a season full of own mistakes but now he is doing right.

      1. @Omarr-pepper i will never call someone a 4xWC bad but their sure is a lot of doubts in my mind does Vet win 4 on the spin with Alo and Ham? I doubt he would win 1 but that is just me. We do not know for certain but Ric is not suddenly best ever else he would have destroyed Vergne and Vergne is not doing much vs a rookie.

        1. Look at how Daniel stacked up against Vergne at the end of 2013: there were races where Dan beat Jev by 30 to 40 seconds in the same car.

As soon as the Red Bull seat opened up, Dan became a completely different driver. Meanwhile, Jev couldn’t hold his own against Gutierrez, so, no, the loose comparison between Seb, Dan, and Jev is nonsense.

I understand what you’re saying, and on the surface it looks sensible, but when you look at the details it doesn’t hold up.

Also, think about what your assertion says about all of Seb’s team mates, from Webber to Bourdais. How bad would they have to be to get trounced by a driver so badly overrated as people are trying to make Seb look?

          Just food for thought.

      2. Vettel just got lucky with Newey’s intellect. It wasn’t the case with Michael though ( I’m not a fan of either of them, but saying Michael did make a team around him developed a car )

    2. 5-3 in the last 8 races. To who? Vettel.

  12. Not a big Kimi fan, but I’m pretty gutted for him. Best chance of the year for him and the car lets him down. Real shame, that.

    1. Kimi’s always been stronger on Sundays than Saturdays, so I think he could still gain a few places tomorrow.

  13. 0,569 sec between 1 and 9 – a lot of decisive lap times in The last 30 secs – what a qualifying. Interesting to see tomorrow. It looks like the race will be a lot more close and exiting than last Year where Vettel was so far ahead from early on.

  14. Oh what a suprise Damonw has not commented. How does the crow taste sir?

  15. My pole prediction is correct, my time was only a few hundreds off, hopefully my run of form continues with the rest of my predictions. For it to happen, Rosberg needs a poor start and the for the red bulls to pounce on him. Seeing that Rosberg starts on the worse side of the grid and his history with starts it is entirely possible. Great lap by Lewis though, Rosberg is good at this track and looked like he might run away with it, hopefully his confidence is high at the moment, he will win the championship if he has good reliability and he has belief in himself.

  16. Here are Lewis’ stats this year with Merc.
1] Finished on podium everytime unless he retired
2] Always won from every P1 he had, unless he retired
Which make me derive that it can be the case that he might win tomorrow as well unless he retires. :D

But tomorrow is different story 1] Long Tough race 2] Prob Rain 3] Safety Car 4] Fierce comp with Merc, RB, Ferr 5] New Radio regulations.

    Let’s see…

  17. I am certain that Mercedes agreed with their drivers after Spa that whoever win qualifying wins the race and the other protects him. This explains the Monza double fake errors from Rosberg and his reaction today to losing qualifying.
This what every team would have done.
    Well done.
