Rosberg first on the scene to offer congratulations. What a class act.

Double points are so stupid! With normal points the gap between the Mercedes drivers would actually be a good representation of the season, but this makes it look like a blowout!

Hamilton fans will like it.

@slava Not really, I don’t see the need to make Hamilton fans look bad. I don’t think I will be the only person who thinks Rosberg was fantastic this season, and I completely agree with @kodongo‘s comment.

@kodongo Hamilton beat Rosberg this year by the same number of points as Michael Schumacher beat Rubens Barrichello in 2002. Double points was absolutely stupid.

Points are also worth around 2.5 times as much.
ALONSO
23rd November 2014, 15:49
Yeh they would not have been stupid if Ros won the title that way

Who cares about the gap at this point. I would say that Hamilton winning double the races but Rosberg being faster on poles and more consistant enough to make Lewis work for it is the picture of the season. Deserved win IMO, no one will remember the points difference in a year or 2.

Until you see statements like that Button beat Hamilton on points over their 3 years as team mates…

@kodongo I’m not in favour of double points but I feel the gap now does represent the difference between them…

@kodongo completely agree. Ridiculous. Farcical.

Today, Hamilton scored enough points to win the 1982 WDC.

Also ironically beating Keke Rosberg to 2nd place.

Over 700 points for Mercedes… Can anyone say me what double points changed for the championship?
BasCB (@bascb)
23rd November 2014, 15:50
it did help McLaren stay ahead of FI and it made sure Bottas finished in 4th.
Quant
23rd November 2014, 16:13
I don’t think it did either of those things did it? As far as I can see, Bottas would have overhauled Alonso and Vettel without double points, and McLaren would have maintained their lead over Force India without double points.
hunocsi (@hunocsi)
23rd November 2014, 17:49
@paeschli @bascb The only thing it changed was putting Perez ahead of Magnussen and Räikkönen, fortunately nothing more.
BasCB (@bascb)
23rd November 2014, 18:24
yeah, after having a better look of it, you guys are right @hunosci and Quant, happily it mattered only very little. Glad if we see the back of double points ASAP

Ultimately the material impact of double points on the championship was restricted to Sergio Perez, who jumped ahead of Kevin Magnussen and Kimi Raikkonen in the championship due to the 6 extra points gained over Kevin and the 5 extra against Kimi. The constructor’s chamiponship was unaffected.
Not that the lack of consequences makes the rule OK, of course.

Bit of a disappointing amount of points for Toro Rosso considering they’ve been hanging around the top 10 mostly. McLaren would have finished ahead of Ferrari without Alonso getting some good results, they could be in real trouble next year if Vettel has another so-so season.

Double points has made the gap between 1st and 2nd stupidly big. Huge congratulations to Ricciardo, Bottas and the often forgotten Hulkenberg for their best championship positions and, of course, Forza Jules. What a brilliant, tragic year…

@keithcollantine I imagine you are preparing a chart for the “stats and facts” showing both championships with and without double points to see the differences.
Looking forward to it please!!!

Bringing this over from another post:———–
Button vs Magnussen
126 points vs 55 points
70% vs 30% of the teams points
JB has beaten KMag 15 out of 19 times(or 18 if you take JBs technical DNF into account)
He always goes so quietly about his business, it’s easy to miss what a superb job he does.
A shame that he was not even given the respect he deserved at this last GP. Shame on you Ron and Eric. Jenson deserved much better after 15 years in the sport.

JB also saved McLaren from the ignominy of losing out to Force India in the WCC (who themselves had a great season!).

Agree. Looks like Button is the only option for McLaren-Honda. I can’t see Magnussen improves so much next year.

Hear hear, I’ve never been a Jenson fan but always a supporter.
He deserves alot more respect for his skills and results especially this year and I can’t understand how anyone else could be considered for the seat alongside Alonso in this new McLaren/Honda era.. I think he would be alot more marketable too, he’s always had such support from the Japanese, his girlfriend/fiance? Isn’t she half Japanese?
Maybe its all about the decision on 3 car teams.
Whatever, if Jenson isn’t on the grid next year it will be a great shame for f1.

I think the gap is fair. 11 to 5 in wins is very big. That alone should be 42 points to Lewis.
