Not necessarily relevant in this race because of the early start time GMT but the reason F1 is so lackluster when attracting new fans is because you have to pay to watch all the races live. Bring F1 back to the BBC, full time!

I might start putting this together for us Aussies this year… Remember, Foxtel are going to be showing every session of every round live, while CH10/OneHD are only going to show rounds live, and have delayed coverage of the other rounds. As per last year CH10/OneHD will only show Qual/Race sessions, with the exception of the Australian GP, which will show all sessions.

@mazdachris Because it’s at 5 in the morning perhaps? Considering that only the diehard fans would be getting up at that time, it makes far more sense to broadcast afternoon races where more casual viewers are more likely to watch.

The thing is though, if they show the race live then they can also broadcast the whole thing again later in a repeat show, rather than just showing highlights. So everyone wins. And Melbourne is usually a really good race.

Would be nice if BBC could charge PPV, might be against their own charter. I would rather my 10pounds go to them than Sky, or at least give people a choice of who to pay.

I like that it’s early @ultimateuzair,@insilico (though in Germany it will already be 6:00), means I can watch it before wife wakes up, and have the rest of the day available still. Of course, FP1,FP3 usually fall through for these races as I usually don’t stay up the whole night.
Evening races also are okay, if they are late enough. I actually dislike the afternoon scheduling, means my whole day will be centered around F1, guarantees having to negotiate those days with family.

@bosyber: Over the winter I regularly remind the females in my household, that if I were to watch the same amount of F1, as they watch reality tv, Master Chef, X-factor and the lot, then I would get tired of F1.
Some races over the season, there is a few sour faces, but I remind them of my patience with their TV preferences and they have to go somewhere else to watch whatever they want, when I enjoy F1. But I have to run my calendar strict, putting in the qualifyings and races, otherwise they arrange all sorts of “very important” stuff, which involve my presence. To my defence, as if I need to defend it, I don’t spend time watching other sports than F1;-)

Oz is one of the few races I can watch live. 10pm here in LA. The advantage of it being a niche sport is i dont have to worry about espn telling me the results before i watch the recording

Race live, 1:00 am, preceded by some sort of preshow at midnight, both on NBCSN
and for non-insomniacs, the race will be replayed at 6 am and 4 pm Sunday, also on NBCSN
