Ten of the best pictures which tell the story of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.

McLaren

McLaren’s revised livery for the Spanish Grand Prix was darker in colour but lighter in weight – a small contribution to the substantial increase in performance the team is seeking with its Honda power unit.

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso’s fans turned out in force as usual – but their man was the first to retire on Sunday.

Pastor Maldonado

Lotus produced a Mad Max-style Formula One car to promote the new film…

Romain Grosjean

…and the real thing looked like something from the film set after Romain Grosjean’s engine cover shattered during practice.

Nico Hulkenberg

It was a trying weekend for Force India, who had only the Manors behind them after qualifying.

Kimi Raikkonen

Kimi Raikkonen tested Ferrari’s new aerodynamic upgrade – distinguished by the curved sidepods and narrower air intake – but didn’t run it in the race so the team could compare the old configuration with the new parts which Sebastian Vettel continued to use on the other car.

Toro Rosso

The Toro Rosso crew celebrated the team’s best qualifying performance for seven years after Carlos Sainz Jnr and Max Verstappen locked out the third row of the grid.

Start

While Nico Rosberg motored off into a lead he never looked like losing, team mate Lewis Hamilton slipped back to third and out of contention for victory.

Daniel Ricciardo

Red Bull were out-qualified by the two Toro Rossos but Daniel Ricciardo beat them home, thanks in part to this pass on Sainz.

Nico Rosberg

Rosberg won as he pleased, taking his first victory of 2015, and drawing within range of Hamilton in the points standings.

  1. Didn’t lotus have a problem with engine covers flying off before? I think at Abu Dhabi if memory serves correct.
They need to sort this out because I wouldn’t want to be slipstreaming one of those things when it goes.

    1. That was Williams.

@john-h, cannot shed the idea that losing the body panel was part of the Mad Max promotion.

What’s next? Losing a diamond around the Monaco circuit?

      1. In 2004, Jaguar actually lost a diamond in Monaco. It was on their nose and Klien crashed the car in the race. The diamond wasn’t found.

Can anyone imagine a scarier thing to see in your rear-view mirror?

He looks so natural there! I honestly think there’s a good career to be made as a super-villain once his F1 career is over.

    1. I have to admit I wasn’t planing on watching this movie but all this publicity with Lotus made me watch the trailer and now I will definitely be checking it out. The studio really got their money’s worth thanks to Maldonado!

  3. How much lighter is the McLaren paint?
And how much does a beard weigh?

  4. That one with pastor in a beat up looking lotus with the Mad Max logo is a gem!
