Kimi Raikkonen says he expects “great things” from his Ferrari team after signing to stay at the team for 2016.
Asked during today’s FIA press conference what more he would like to achieve with Ferrari, Raikkonen said: “Obviously we want more wins, me and the team”.
“I’ve had good years and difficult years, up and downs, but I always enjoy it. Obviously you enjoy it more when things are going more nicely and you get the results.”
“But as a team I had a great time there. I’m very pleased we can be working together next year again. As a team, as they are now, I really feel that we’re going in the right direction and we can do great things in the future.”
“People are more happy, we’re more happy when we can do better results,” he added. “Obviously you guys [the media] write less negative things after that but we keep working and we believe in what we’re doing so I’m sure we’ll get there and we will have many, many happy days in front of us and a lot of good results.”
Sebastian Vettel had spoken up in favour of Ferrari keeping Raikkonen as his team mate, and Raikkonen said their partnership has been positive for Ferrari.
“He tells me and I tell him if he does well and I do well,” said Raikkonen. “We have a very good feeling of respect in the team.”
“It’s always nice to hear from him, also. We try to beat each other in the races but we still can be friends. That is also very good for us as a team, that we can co-operate well.”

I was surprised by this when I heard this morning but I guess Bottas or Daniel were far too expensive to buy out and a Hulk one year cameo not so smart I guess!
Having said that I must be a Kimi fan as I find my self having a go at him to do better on bad days and cheering for him when he has a good day out- I at least hope he makes the most of the seat and doesn’t waste a potential talent like Nico never seeing a top drive, which is seeing more and more likely.

I think Ferrari could have done better than Kimi for next year, but I’m not going to complain much. I like Kimi, and if he had lost his seat at Ferrari, he would most likely retire. So, I’m hoping he puts in a few solid performances over this season and the next. Hopefully, 2017 will see a more exciting driver next to Vettel
My heart goes out to the Hulk… I’m really hoping he gets that Mercedes seat in 2017. He would be far superior to Rosberg in that machinery

I recall, not too long ago, a Williams engineer say that Rosberg and Bottas are better than Hulkenberg (and he’s worked with all three), so I am not so sure about that final sentence.

All the time they are oozing sweetness and love those two. It’s getting really weird. I’m amazed Vettel didn’t put Raikkonen in his dream team, but I guess he didn’t want to get separated. Ever. LOL. I’ve always found it a bit weird a 19 year-old-kid and a 27 year-old-guy becoming friends.

Silly season 2016 it’s going to be fun. Raikkonen and Button surely retiring (maybe even Alonso?), and Rosberg’s contract coming to an end. Lots of room in the top teams. And McLaren (heh).

I don’t think Alonso will leave at the end of 2016. I am sure he will try for the last time to become a champion. Honda should resolve all issues by that time, so as McLaren.
If the team or Alonso himself will fail, then he will definitely leave.

I’m curious, how confident are we about this?
pal
20th August 2015, 17:27
I’m more confident in that Alonso’ll try for that Mercedes seat again. Not 100% sure of course, as he’d need to go up against Hamilton. But, seeing as he might have no choice, he might have to take his chances.
Albert
20th August 2015, 19:57
That’s not happening. Hamilton is delivering and Rosberg is an excellent number 2 driver, plus he’s German on a German team, it works very well for marketing purposes.

So we can watch Kimi get thrashed by his team mate again, while we will be left forever wondering how the Hulkenbergs etc would fare in a top car. Disappointing all round.

Really? Imo if Hulk was better he would be in that seat now. He was free of any contact.
