Max Verstappen winning his first grand prix for Red Bull Racing in a mid-season debut holding off Kimi Raikkonen for 20 laps.
The future prospects for Verstappen going forward are terrifying.

He was helped by Red Bull moving Dan Ricciardo out of the way with a dodgy strategy. Taking extra pit stops in Spain is almost as foolish as in Monaco. It appears Red Bull have a new number one driver and Dan should look for a new contract with another team.

He was helped by Ricciardo not being able to make a gap to Verstappen.

Why should Ricciardo make a gap? If Red Bull don’t put him on the slower strategy he, as the lead driver, need only go fast enough to not be overtaken.

Sure looked like that to me.Spot on.

He was helped by Ricciardo being slower. At no point in the race did Ricciardo pull away from Verstappen.

Considering Ferrari did the same with Vettel it’s a bit too early for “favoured driver” theories. All the evidence actually points to Verstappen/Raikkonen getting the ‘2nd’ strategy while Ric & Vettel got what was supposed to be the better bet, it just didn’t play out that way

the truth at last

Ferrari reacted to Riccardo though. Basically they got played reacting to the wrong driver in the same way they were played with Alonso when they lost the 2010 championship.

Max was a bit lucky and Riccardo was a little more unlucky. Still he droves very well and deserve it.

“1 6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes
2 44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes”
This is not strictly true.

I’m not sure about Alonso finishing sixth either

It’ll get fixed soon, no doubt. Just meant as a heads-up.

Not bad for a No. 33 driver

Rosberg, Hamilton and Vettel can bugger off. Verstappen is the real 2016 WDC! Great drive! Ricciardo was unlucky, but Verstappen still drove a great race.

I’m scared of Max Verstappen. I’m scared of how good he is, and how good he will become.

This VES win just demolished Kvyat’s career. Also P10, while Carlos is 6th. I think Kvyat has to find another job now, maybe even in F1. Say, washing the Red Bull tyres?

The first time I cried when watching F1 was when Schumi announced at Monza that he was quitting. Today was the second time.
Via the verstappen website I followed him when he was karting and when I met my wife (10 years ago), I told her that he would be in F1 someday and probably do better than his dad.
Today is a good day.

I first cried when Jos Verstappen got on to te podium in Hungary in 94. I was 12 then so yeah. I didnt cry but I screamed like a little boy during the last 10 laps with RAI in his DRS and then roared uncontrolably when the checkered flag fell.
What a talent and what a cool head this young boy has. What a beast

Sure an amazing debut for Verstappen, but this win only came because of the sub-optimal strategy given to Ricciardo. Looks to me like Marko made an executive decision and got Ricciardo out of the way.
