American GP3 driver Santino Ferrucci will make his Formula One debut with Haas in next week’s test at Silverstone.

The 18-year-old, who is the team’s development driver, will get behind the wheel of the VF-16 on both days at the test following the British Grand Prix on July 12th and 13th.

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said Ferruci is “a young, American driver with a lot of potential who has earned this opportunity”. “He’s done a very good job of proving himself in each of the racing series he’s competed in,” Steiner added.

Ferrucci raced in the US-based F2000 series in 2013 after graduating from karts but has been been based in European championships for the past three seasons. He spent two years in European Formula Three, finishing 11th in the championship last year, but is yet to score having moved to GP3 with DAMS.

“Becoming a Formula One driver is my ultimate goal and I can’t thank Haas enough for this opportunity,” said Ferrucci. “Nothing beats seat time, and the experience of driving a Formula One car and working with Haas F1 Team will be invaluable.”

    1. Slightly off-topic, but those are weird jeans.

      1. Yeah, is he testing that jeans design too?

    2. Ah yes, this fellow again. Haas still did not bother to shoot a decent picture of the man I see?

    3. I didn’t realise he’d raced in New Zealand. Looking at the Toyota Racing Series, it seems to be popular with (to us) foreign drivers: only 4 out of the 21 drivers who competed (actually only 20 cars raced, 1 car had two different drivers) are from NZ. He came third in that series, with just one retirement and two below average finishes. I hope he posts some good lap times at Silverstone.

    4. @keithcollantine there’s a typo on Ferrucci’s name

    5. I remember this kid in an interview with Tony Stewart at Watkins Glen years ago. Looks like he’s closer to his dream.

    6. Please Keith, find another picture of this guy. I had nightmares about those jeans last time.

    7. Totally against the rules! I’m pretty sure, per Article 26.1a of the 2016 FIA Sporting Regulations:
“All drivers must have reached puberty in order to participate in a World Championship practice or race”. Or something to that effect.

    8. Thanks to Max Verstappen you only have to be 10 years old to get a seat in F1 these days. Gone are the days like the 70’s when there was real men racing F1. Boy looks like he is 14.
