Kimi Raikkonen was quickest on the second day of testing at Silverstone as better weather conditions allowed teams to get more work done. A brief rain shower after lunch was the only significant disruption.

Busiest of all was Mercedes, who recalled their pre-season testing form by racking up 139 laps with Esteban Ocon – over two-and-a-quarter grand prix distances at the Silverstone track. Pascal Wehrlein continued to drive the team’s 2014 car while testing 2017 tyre compounds for Pirelli.

Toro Rosso gave Formula Three driver Sergio Sette Camara his first run in an F1 car. “I had a lot of fun out there,” said the Red Bull junior driver, “it was great to work with a big team and drive at such an historic track like Silverstone – it’s even more impressive to drive a Formula One car here.”

Can teams use all new components without risk of penalty in testing? Ie it would make sense to use all new everything without putting 100 laps plus strain on existing or planned parts

    1. @dodge5847 Component restriction only for race components. On test day they use separate components, not the one alllocated for race use.

  2. table seems to have a messed up order. Kimi should be no.1 no?

    1. That’s what fans’ve been saying for years now…

      1. Lol. Nice.

  3. Decent time from Marzipan, errr… Mazepin.

      1. Just saw an interesting tweet from Peter Windsor:
“V impressed with (basically unknown) Nikita Mazepin in the Force India 2day: yes, on SSs but quicker than Niko’s or Sergio’s best last w’end”

  4. To everyone who has been saying that you can’t see 5 seconds lap time difference on track, it was really noticeable the difference between Werhlein and Ocon, but maybe that’s just me.

Was also interesting seeing the new tyres, they definitely looked better than the current spec.

Final point is that the last time I heard these engines was at the 2014 Silverstone GP, but today they were much louder.

Are you there in testing mate? what kind of difference you saw compared to this year tires.

  5. These are correct lap number.
