Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has emphatically stated Ferrari does not need to appoint further technical staff in the wake of James Allison’s departure.
The team’s previous technical director stepped down in July and was replaced by Mattia Binotto. However despite speculation the team has made approaches to senior technical figures at rival teams, such as Paddy Lowe of Mercedes, Arrivabene insisted he has all the people he needs in place.
“We are repeating ten thousand times that our team is done,” said Arrivabene during today’s FIA press conference. “We are perfectly OK with the people that we have.”
“The atmosphere today in Maranello is very good. We have the right people with Mattia and the people that is working with Mattia. They just need to continue to keep up this kind of atmosphere to look forward for next year, keeping an eye also on this year.”
“And eventually we will work in peace, that means without pressure. That is exactly what they are doing and I have nothing to add. So we don’t need to add anyone.”
Pressed further on the subject Arrivabene added: “I said many, many times that we are perfectly fine.”
“Mattia is doing a good job. We are doing OK as we are, we don’t need anyone else. Mattia is our technical director, we had before James a technical director, now it’s Mattia. With all the organisation that is in place we explained about the organisation many times. What I need to add?”
Arrivabene added his team’s priority for the remainder of this season is “to try to win races”.
“That’s the point for this year, and to finish the season in a good way.”

I think Ferrari are doing a fine job over the winter, however they really should up their game when it comes to development during the season. They have been consistently outdeveloped by Red Bull in the last 7 years.

That sounds about right.

Interesting presser. Arrivabene definitely looked under pressure (or perhaps just unwell?). Being very clear about the goal to win races and finishing in a good way this season I think is a big indication of where Ferrari are at. I think if they were as stable as he claims then the comments would be more about focusing on 2017 and the results of the remainder of this season not being so crucial.

He isn’t the best speaker (in English at least), I think what he’s trying to say is that we are confident in our current technical department and we think improving our current position in the standings and winning races this season are on the cards.

If Ferrari technical team is fine and a 4 time world champion is driving, then the problem with Ferrari’s entire performance must be somewhere else. I think team management must not be fine.

What is this? Ferrari doing the right thing, letting their engineers work in peace? Good, let them fully ramp up for next 5 years….
